This quirky little space is literally just a stone's throw away from another really popular café just across the street (no, not Starbucks), so it is no small thing that it's been able to maintain its popularity despite not looking as fancy. Given that it's mainly known as a bakery, you'll find a plethora of delicious, yet simple-looking pastries that pack more flavor than you may initially think. The coffee isn't bad, either, but the sweet stuff is definitely the star of the show here.
From what the girl at the till was telling me, they have quite a few fan favorites that range from baked cheesecake to cardamom buns, and even some apple-filled pastries you don't find in too many places. I have to say that even their plain croissants look heavenly, though.
I went for the baked cheesecake thinking that it would be healthier - because baked - but really, it just means that the texture is slightly different than a regular cheesecake; think Basque Cheesecake. It reminded me of a sweet confection I used to eat as a child called a "quesadilla" (no, not the Mexican cheese-filled tortillas), with a super-decadent texture and sweet, creamy finish that probably means you won't be able to save any for later.
They tend to get quite busy throughout the day, but they have quite a modest amount of space inside with a few chairs and tables outside, so you shouldn't have to wait long for a seat regardless of the time. read more
