This is such a great guitar store. The store design is super cool. It's high-end yet really comfortable and approachable. Love the design of the custom pipe structure that displays guitars in the main showroom. If you're a guitar player, you've got to stop by just to see and experience the place. It's great. The staff is equally amazing. Philip recently set up my white Gretsch 12 string Falcon Rancher and WOW, it plays like a dream now. I didn't think the guitar was too bad off the shelf - but Philip was able to dial it in to where it plays like a dream now. So much better. I'm super thrilled. I chatted with Philip when picking my guitar up and learned he is a true luthier with the schooling and experience to back it up. He actually built guitars professionally for 10 years so he's not just a guy who changes strings. He's a guitar master craftsman who knows how to get the most out of a guitar. read more

I've finally found my Charlotte music store. As soon as I walked through the door I felt totally at home. An incredible selection of beautiful high quality instruments, a very knowledgeable staff, and no pressure. In the end, a beautiful Martin M-36 followed me home and I could not be happier. Before I left with it they changed the strings to what I like and went over the instrument to make sure all was perfect. A couple of follow up email questions were promptly answered. Absolutely worth fighting Saturday afternoon Charlotte traffic to find a parking spot! What a gorgeous store and if you love guitars, wow. The store itself is aesthetically gorgeous, the guitars are stunning, and overall, a really cool place to visit. You can play any guitar there, just let them know you'd like to - great seating to take a load off, love the church pews. We met the owner, Doug, he gave us a peek at the studio - wow! Got his business card for future reference. Great guy, great spot for musicians and so glad we stopped in. Will definitely visit again in the future. read more

Midwood Guitar Studio just opened. It's gorgeous. The exposed brick was kept on all walls too. This studio carries boutique guitars and basses as well as amps. They also built a bar, of sorts, to sit at, hang and watch tv. They don't have a liquor license or anything so it's not that type of bar. These guitars are stunning pieces of craftsmanship. They are all brands neither I, nor my husband who plays guitar, have seen before. We spoke with the owner, Douglas if I recall correctly, and he told us where they were all made and how he came across them. They come from WA and TN and everywhere in between. This is not Sam Ash. These are all special, handmade guitars which are about $3,000.00 or more. There is also a room behind the register that you can play the guitars in and it's a nice little jam room. Go visit, ogle at the beauties and spend some money in Plaza Midwood. read more

Must visit when in Charlotte. This is the best music shop I've ever stepped into, and isn't for you if you aren't a serious player. Top knotch gear is the only thing they sell, and they are known for it. Great place to just browse and try guitars you can't play anywhere else. First, let me get this out of the way: Midwood is the most beautiful guitar shop I've ever walked into. The guys there are super friendly and helpful. The culture they are creating around this shop is exciting. Charlotte is lucky to have them. But most of my business has been with their luthier/co-owner, Craig Landau. Craig is a world-class luthier. His eye, when looking at a guitar, does not miss a thing. His work, is meticulous and incredibly impressive. I recently picked up a guitar that was getting some work done, and Craig went out of his way to create a custom compensated bone saddle, on top of the other fine work he performed. I am sure it is a combination of everything he did, but my guitar has come to life. It absolutely rings now! I am a lifelong customer. read more

I travel a lot. I go to guitar stores in cities I visit for something to do. They can be in interesting parts of town you wouldn't normally find as a tourist. Decided to stop in to Midwood on a road trip recently. Holy guitar god... this place is an awesome guitar shop. It's a well curated selection of boutique amps, instruments, and pedals. I was in town for the weekend and staying at the Westin for a conference. Got through about 3:30 and decided I should see if I could find a good guitar store to assuage my two day guitar withdrawal! I started looking around on the internet and realized that outside of GC and Sam Ash, there doesn't appear to be much. Surprising for such a large town. Nothing against either of the two aforementioned establishments but usually they carry the same gear I can see at any GC. When I saw the photo online I thought, well this is going to be like one of those expensive department stores that only have five shirts and charge $500 a piece for them. I was pleasantly surprised to find it was nothing like that. True enough, the owner carries some offbeat gear from smaller builders but but the prices were very reasonable. They had a 66 Mustang with a lot of vintage mojo for $1400 and a used Weller Fleetwood Woody (look it up) which I ended up snagging unexpectedly (ok, it happens - called to me). Anyway, Matt helped me primarily and Sage and the other fella there as well as the luthier were all great. They were neither pretentious or pushy. It was like looking at guitars with some friends in the band. They like talking gear (which is a good thing cause that's what they do). You would think that it would be easy just to blow off a guy in from out of town but it was super friendly and professional all the way. As a plus, they do free concerts with some cool musicians from time to time right in their showroom. If you are local you should do yourself a favor and check em out. If you are traveling, just be prepared to walk out of there with a really unusual find. I'm sure they ship but I took mine with me. Hopefully, Delta will treat it with care! This is the nicest guitar shop I've ever been to. The staff is so friendly and doesn't pressure you or anything. While their selection is a little unordunary I loved the Eastwood hollow bodies and they had a better PRS selection than I've seen at any big name guitar store. Their acoustic room is fantastic and I love the privacy. All around must visit before getting your next guitar! I was just looking not going to buy anything but the business was so nice that I had to get a T-shirt. read more

So many cool, rare, and beautiful guitars and basses, and staff was very helpful. I especially liked the ES-225 and D'angelicos. most guitars are expensive (for good reason), But there are some amazing guitars in the 600-800 dollar range. Definitely would consider buying a guitar or bass from here. read more
