Have been going to them for years. Three dogs all very well taken care of. This is a small family office, they talk to you like your pets are your kids? I always give us honesty options and multiple options for treatment, never pressed or forced to do anything. they have always been welcoming to all of us. The only downfall is bc they are small it's gets busy. You have to wait longer than wait normal. But I can honestly stay it's because care is more about quality and making sure your pets are OK then watching if 15 minutes passed for your appointment and then trying to push you out the door. read more

We cannot more highly recommend Midwest Veterinary Hospital, the three excellent veterinarians there and their staff. We have two middle aged goldendoodle dogs who we would go to the ends of the earth for. We had been with another reputable vet who we liked well enough.....expert doctors who had been practicing for years who we felt were professional, kind to our dogs, and very thorough in all the care they provided. They were just about 15min from our home. However, they were VERY busy, very difficult to get a hold of on the phone, sometimes hard to get a same day appt with and their waiting room was always very crowded. When one of our dogs needed ACL surgery, we knew JUST who we were going to go to. We knew we needed Dr. Mandel to take care of our Benson. Dr. Mandel had come most highly recommended by a friend who sits on the board for a local very well known rescue. She has been the owner and foster mom to many many dogs throughout her lifetime and has worked with Dr. Mandel through their rescue and the local VCA Emergency Hospital. He is one of their go-to veterinarian for all high-need dogs who and fragile and need the most tender and thorough of care. Dr. Mandel took excellent care of Benson and helped us thoroughly understand the injury, surgery and recovery process. We had follow up visits every 2 weeks for several weeks and then again at about the 3 and 6mo mark (all included in the cost of his surgery). The surgery was 1/4 the cost it would have been had we taken him to Akron. Even though Benson has some moderate arthritis in his knees, even after having both knees taken care of for ACL tears, he has not needed any pain medication after his initial healing of surgery. He does not limp, even in the cold winter months. He is now 7 and plays as if he were a puppy. I have since recommended Dr. Mandel to my brother who has a tiny poochon puppy who needed knee surgery. Same thing: professional care at 1/4 the cost of Akron and she is doing amazing! My brother's family is also so happy with the care the puppy was provided and with successful recovery. They would take her there all the time but they live an hour away. We decided to switch our dogs to Midwest for all of their care after the first surgery even though it takes us 25min to get there. We have seen all three vets there now several times. Dr. West and Dr. Gundelly are both so kind, patient, gentle, thorough and talk to and treat my dogs as if they were their own. I can always get through on the phone and usually get a same day appt. Their staff are kind, professional and know what they are doing. You can tell this is their expertise. Their waiting room has never ever been crowded and the atmosphere is usually quiet, which makes it less stressful for my dogs. I will take my dogs here for the long haul. Thank you Midwest Vet! I would never take my dog to Dr. Mandel's office (Midwest Veterinary Hospital) again for several reasons. 1. They had her on Apoquel for years for itchiness on her paws. This medication is extremely expensive and has significant side effects but I gave it to her daily at their instruction. When I transferred to my new vet they asked if the other vet had ever swabbed her paws for yeast. No they hadn't. When my new vet checked her paws for yeast it came back positive so she never needed apoquel at all. I now wipe her paws with a medicated wipe once daily at a fraction of the cost and no harmful side effects. 2. Dr. Mandel did surgery on my dog and during the surgery called me on my cell phone and asked me to confirm which leg the surgery was supposed to be on. I wasn't sure! My dog was already sedated and the doctor is calling me to ask me this!? I would steer clear of Dr. Mandel and his clinic. read more

I can literally credit Dr. West with saving our dog Clara's life. When she collapsed and couldn't get up a few years ago we had no idea what was wrong. We took her to see Dr. West who did an x ray and thought that her spleen had ruptured. This problem needed immediate attention and she scheduled her for that afternoon. When she went in she discovered that a tumor on her liver had actually ruptured. She removed the tumor, saving Clara's life. Clara lived for three more years and was noticeably happier and more active. When we had to put Clara to sleep, at 15 years, Dr. West came to our house which is over half an hour away and sat with our family. She put Clara to sleep to end her suffering and was there to comfort the family as well. We are grateful to Dr. West for giving us 3 more good years of our dogs life and for knowing when the right time to let go was. She really cares about the families and the pets she treats. Not only that but she is an excellent and skilled veterinarian. Now she is helping us raise our puppy Callie. We trust Callie will be in excellent hands. read more

I was recently visiting my sister and brother in law, and we began discussing the health of our family dog who Was diagnosed with cancer and was being treated by Dr. Mandel. I was so disappointed to learn that this doctor used an opportunity to take advantage of my Family at one of the most vulnerable times in their lives. They truly love our pet and would do anything to ease its suffering however I believe the suggestions made by Dr. Mandel are not legal or ethical. He recommended that they use illegally grown and obtained THC oil and requested that they only pay for this in cash. I know that my sister is too kind to say anything but I am furious with what had happened. It actually made our dog so high it couldn't go out to the bathroom and was falling down stairs. He was bragging that he made it himself. I Would not recommend this veterinarian to anyone I know. He is endangering his clients and staff. It didn't do anything but make our dog lethargic! His tactics are greedy at best and unscrupulous at worst. read more

Website says they specialize in exotics, but I'm not sure what they can do besides antibiotics and other nonacute tx. Brought my guinea pig here after a hospitalization at Barberton because it's hard on my guinea pig to travel an hour away. I was assured when I scheduled the appointment that they have vets who "specialize" in exotics and can do all of the necessary diagnostics. Three appointments later, they're telling me to return to Barberton. I really would have preferred they tell me that from the start when they reviewed her Barberton records and knew what she needed, instead of wasting time pecking around with other meds they clearly had no confidence would work. Now, she's right back where she started before the hospitalization and I'm just hoping she can hold on until Wednesday when the true exotics specialist can see her, without having to go back through the Metropolitan ER. Don't waste your pet's time coming here if it needs something other than antibiotics or a claw trim. It's well worth it to make the drive to Barberton. I'm just hoping my attempt to spare my pig that stress doesn't cost her in the long run. read more

I was recommended this Vet through a friends of friends who have had wonderful experiences with rescuing animals. They had seen Dr. Mandel ( the owner) and Also Dr. West. I read other reviews of vets in the area and also read reviews of the other Vet in Clev. Hts. which were all very positive. I nervously settled on this one making my appt with Dr. West. When I arrived I was greeted by the friendly smile of Cheryl who was sitting at the desk, I think she could tell I was nervous but she had a very mother like presence about her and she assured me how wonderful Dr. West was. She also told me how she had been with Mandel Vet for over 20yrs and that her daughter who was the manager of both hospitals also had been a very long term employee, these things as well also put me at ease. Looking around the hospital is well kept with wood floors and very clean, it didn't have the "funky" smell that most Vets I have been to in the past have. About 10 mins after I arrived I was greeted by a smiley tech ( didn't catch her name) and led to a treatment room and shortly after was greeted by Dr. West. My dog had a stinky and itchy ear, Dr. West was very gentle with my baby and they got me all set with medication ( I didn't even have to go another place to fill the prescription). Dr. West was so knowledgeable and really put me at ease, she even asked me what kind of food I was giving my dog and how the types of food can contribute to constant ear infections. I had never even thought of that!!! Other vets I had been to in the past wouldn't take the time to explain, I guess they figured the more ear infections my dog had the more money in their pocket! I was very impressed. She recommended a hypoallergenic prescription diet which again I didn't even have to go anywhere for they had it in stock on the spot. I have had Bella on this diet for a month now with great results. I have found my new vet and I am so happy that Bella is so comfortable and we have finally solved the problem of her persistent ear infections. THANK YOU MANDEL VET for caring so much and taking excellence to a whole new level. do NOT take your pet here! This business name was changed from Mandel vet clinic to Midwest to cover their tracks. They were negligent and caused my pet to die due to unnecessary surgery that costed me over 2k. I was without a pet AND the money and this devestated me and my family, as I was promised more time with my pet. The secy at the desk had me sign a consent form and covered up the contract so I couldnt read what I was consenting to. The vet did not want to return calls after he got paid/did the surgery about follow up care, and the staff supported this behavior. If you care about your furbaby, please do not go here! read more
