Update: I will leave the previous review text below, but I want to update my main score since they…read morehave apparently addressed the problem. I had initially given them 5 stars, so I will simply revert to that with the understanding that I have not had any animals seen at Gateway in a few years. It was never a matter of not caring enough- all of my encounters reflected a staff of people who were very dedicated to the care they were giving. And no, I wasn't pressured in any way to change my review. It's important to me to be as accurate and fair as possible. I am just now reading the response from Gateway, as I don't use Yelp often, so I am updating my review based on the new information. Previous Review: We went to Gateway for several years for our dogs. They had good pricing and the staff was friendly, competent, and clearly passionate about the work they did. These qualities can be really hard to find... especially the combination of reasonable pricing and competent, passionate care. I gave Gateway a 5-star rating when I first reviewed them 8 years ago. The problem is the walk-in only nature of the practice, paired with significant changes in how Gateway is run. I suspect that they may have been sold to equity investors or similar schemes that ultimately destroy so many good vet practices, but I am not sure. Before covid even showed up, I found myself avoiding taking the dogs to the vet because I couldn't handle sitting and waiting for HOURS every single time. Didn't matter if I showed up before they opened- the line was already long. I am physically disabled, so sitting for hours in their waiting room had a physical cost in addition to the fact that most people don't enjoy waiting for long periods of time. The last time we went, we were told to cue up outside more than an hour before opening to even have a shot at being seen that day. It was absolutely horrible having to stand in the freezing cold for so long, our sick dog waiting with us. Despite being this early, we weren't ultimately seen until mid day. It isn't even a first come first served situation. They aren't primarily an emergency vet yet they triage. So you'll be sitting there watching so many go ahead of you unless your pet is experiencing a medical emergency. This seems like a reasonable approach on paper, but unfortunately it means that a visit to Gateway requires me to clear my schedule for the entire day and that just is not reasonable. It also isn't fair to the animals- especially if they're sick or otherwise frail. The people who founded Gateway are long gone, as is the wonderful service they provided. If you're desperate to have your pet seen (and you can manage to show up first thing in the morning and wait several hours to be seen), maybe it's a good fit for you. Otherwise keep looking.

On top of this, today we received a sympathy card from them that contained wildflower seeds that we can plant in her memory. So touching! What a classy thing to do. Lastly, I wanted to mention how appreciative we are that, unlike most other veterinary services who will gouge you for the same service, their pricing is reasonable. They don't take advantage of you in your time of need.

Her staff is also friendly and caring. Like every veterinary practice, they are very busy these days, but they always do their best to fit me in when I have a sick animal. I really like working with Dr. Gulzeth, she is competent, down to earth, and direct in telling me what I need to know about my pet. My senior dog loves going to see Dr. Gulzeth and her staff - I don't think many people can say their dog loves going to the vet! She is a large dog and Dr. Gulzeth gets right down on the floor with her and my dog gives her all the kisses. I have two cats as well. It's a good feeling knowing my pets are in the care of Beachland Animal Hospital.

I have been going here for a couple of years now and I like and trust the doctors especially here…read more My important question is why is it if you need an emergency appointment they never acomdate or have the consideration knowing that our pets are like children and mean the world to us!!!! My dog looks like he was getting an attack he could move I started screaming his name and rubbing him and then he threw up I got so pardoned and scared I called for an appointment and they told me take him to the emergency room if it happens again and didn't even have the corsety and acted like oh well!!! You don't do that because #1 you don't even know if the person has a vehicle and gave me an appointment for the next DAY.... I don't know what he has what they should have done was tell me to bring him in to check!!!!!!! We spend tons money taking care of our furry babies!!!!!! Iam not a new patient to the office!!!!!!! You should have been a little more considerate not knowing what my baby had and what we go through having an emergency !!!!!!!!!! The reason I don't stop going for now is because I don't have a car to go else where and want him checked!!!! But that is definitely something iam going to look into because what about if it was an attack or something else you guys more of less know him correct???? So why on earth do that..... that receptionist that answered the phone should take a big Lesson in other people's feeling especially with our furry babies!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mother has been taking our dogs to this clinic for years but the lack of respect and…read morecommunication among the staff with this clinic is unacceptable & we are not putting up with it anymore. Our pit-bull was treated here for his allergies and although we are aware of the stigmas of their breed, vets should be aware that they are going to deal with all sorts of breeds, despite there anxiety & etc.. but as the owners, if we communicate that muzzling or restriction will only intensify that, it's their job to find others ways to make the clinic "stress free" for all of their patients. The vet techs are impatient and honestly seemed like they wanted to get our dog in & out without even the proper care or advice we were looking for. Then have the audacity to charge for extra services we didn't ask for. We will not be coming here again. Learn to respect your patients and understand that people look to you for help, and to not be judged or treated differently based off their biased stereotypes of our dog.

First thing they did? Try to touch her head. One of my other dogs developed bladder cancer. They offered no comfort care or any suggestions for treatment. They just said to euthanized her. When we decided to euthanize her, they offered no comfort. They left the room after injecting her. and she had a seizure. when I mention it, they said I should have called for them, but I didn't want to leave my dying dog. Fast forward 4 years after switching vets, her brother has the same diagnosis and same staging, and he is thriving on medication.
