Just adopted a rescue dog and a local recommended this clinic. I cannot even begin to describe how kind and loving all his staff were. My poor dog was visibly shaking, and they were so sweet offering treats (which he was too scared to eat), stroking him and just loving him up. I got solid care for my new dog, reasonably priced heartworm and flea medication, and good advice on future trainers. Now, I know we all hate going to the vet - and I am no exception because they are so expensive - but I watched this vet function with four assistants - so think of his overhead. And I understand that this vet is one of the less expensive vets in the area. The other remarkable thing was that as I was waiting our turn, I listened to the assistants calling patient's owners. One call went like this: "Hi, I'm calling from Willow Run Vet Clinic. The last time your brought in Fluffy, he wasn't using his box. How is that problem going for you now?' Another call was about a very sick dog and obviously a painful decision to put the dog down. Before the assistant scheduled an appointment, she arranged a time for the doctor to call and talk to them later in the evening. I want this vet for my new buddy - and I suspect you do too. read more

Dr. Solwitz ordered unnecessary tests and classified my schnauzer as having congestive heart failure when she showed no signs to support that diagnosis. He ordered a potentially dangerous class of medication to treat the alleged Heart Failure that was only indicated for New York Heart Association Grade II or higher congestive heart failure that my dog clearly did not have. The medication threw my dog into a dangerous heart rhythm called supraventricular tachycardia that I needed to do a carotid massage to ablate. Had I not graduated from medical school and known what to do, my dog may well have had dire consequences. Dr. Solwitz clearly got in over his head with regard to internal medicine issues and should have acknowledged his limitations. I cannot, in good faith, recommend any health care provider who tries to play God and order tests, procedures, or medications that are not indicated. The first code of any health care provider is to "do no harm"; my dog was harmed by the treatment prescribed. I have removed my pets from his care and would advise potential clients to think carefully prior to utilizing his services. read more

Anyone who has anything negative to say about this place is so mistakenly wrong. I just took my puppy here and they had the best most loving vet tech's and the most knowledgable vet. I will be coming here for a long time. read more

As an ex employee of a veterinary office for several years I am pretty well informed on area veterinary practices. I took my cat here once. Dr. Solwitz was so extremely rude about my ex employer (a veterinarian who passed away a few years ago) that from now on I am willing to drive very far out of my way to avoid this place. His prices are high and he loves to try and sell you unnecessary additions. The calls that continue for over a year after your last visit are more than excessive. My cat had a very minor problem and calling to "check on him" was not only unnecessary but also very annoying, especially considering how unhappy with the doctor I was. I have friends who absolutely love taking their animals here but I will never do such again. He talked down to me and made several comments about how my dead boss was probably "looking up at us from Hell". Should have reported him to the BBB, but I chose to ignore his ignorance and unprofessionalism. read more

I can't say enough good things about Willow Run. Dr. Solowitz is thorough and has provided excellent care for my English Springer Spaniel and our family's other pets. I love, love this family! They care about you and your animals. They never ever let me down. They review the situation, provide options in which there are those they would recommend and others they suggest, but at the end it's up to you to let them know what you want done. There are times they mentioned some testing, but in further discussions I would narrow it down to the necessity of them & then if we need to proceed with the other options we do. Dr. Solwitz will NEVER do anything that was not in the best interest of your loved one. He has a caring heart/soul and is passionate about his career and his clientele. I've seen other veterinary clinics nearby & this is the ONLY one I choose. read more

Although I've only ever gone to Dr. Solowitz (and once his colleague in an emergency), I can say that he's one of the best vets out there! He was friendly and very gentle with all of my cats and, like Juan says, him and his staff have a great memory and will remember you and your pets. Even after my pets passed he was still very courteous and send a card to check up on things after the fact - that especially impressed me! If I still lived in the area and had pets I would definitely continue going to him. read more

I have been taking my three dogs to Dr. Solwitz for at least ten years. I cannot begin to tell you about the outstanding care he has given to my dogs during that time. He listens to you, never rushes you, and is very gentle when he examines each dog; from my big baby to my little terror he knows how to handle them. His staff is very kind and efficient. Margie and Loretta are wonderful. I like the follow up phone calls to see how my pets are doing after I bring them in for health issues. I know several people who bring their pets to him and each person has only good things to say about him and his staff. Prices are reasonable. If you need a vet Willow Run is the best place for your animal. read more

I have been using willow run for many years. With nine pets. I have had nothing but first class treatment every time.the love that every person who works there shows is amazing. The best way I can describe Dr. Solwitz is that when he treats your animal he becomes completely engrossed in it's well being. His practice is very busy and he has a LOT going on, but even so, he keeps laser focus on your pet during exam and treatment. He and his staff are very kind and thoughtful. I also like that he really wants to be sure of his diagnosis and treatment and has the ability to get fast results on laboratory tests. Dr. Solwitz is a great vet and his staff is wonderful. I have taken my dogs to him for many years. He has performed complicated bowel surgery, dentals and yearly checkups. His prices are very reasonable and he explains everything very clearly. I hope he never retires! read more

Dr Solwitz and his staff are wonderful and caring. Our dogs have been with the practice since I moved here in 2008. They all know our dachshunds by name. They truly care for their patients. I have even had to call and make contact with them from a cruise ship when our little girl came down with pancreatitis while staying at the doggie B and B. They consulted with the emergency vet. As for some of the reviews saying that they run too many tests, all I can say is that my dogs are part of my family. I would rather be safe than sorry. i have been a client of dr. richard & willow run for over 20 years. he is the best vet within 20 miles of cleveland oh. he is allergic to animals but has treated them for about 40 years! his practice is on the 1st floor of his huge house and he lives on the 2nd floor, so that he can be close to any pets that are staying overnight. he comes down, like a grandma, and checks on them regularly until he goes to sleep! he is the most kind, caring, intelligent, and reasonable vet i have encountered in the whole area. his staff are very nice, also. you will never visit any other vet once you try him. he is worth the drive for you and your pets- no matter how far away you live. he is across from a custard stand and chinese restaurant. read more

I have lived in Wickliffe (and Willoughby) for about 10 years and have avoided going to the vet because my encounters with several veterinarians in this area have been horrible. When my dog got an infected anal glad (on my birthday) I knew a trip to the vet was in order and was seriously dreading it. A co-worker recommended this vet and had very nice things to say about him, that her parents had taken their pets 20 years ago and she and her siblings still see him. I called the next morning and the lady who answered was very nice and told me I could come in the same day. I saw Dr. Solwitz and he immediately put my dog and I at ease, he was very friendly and affectionate with my dog, asked me a lot of questions about her habits, diet, and history. He took his time explaining the procedure and I was relieved when I got an estimate because his prices were VERY reasonable, half what I expected. I went back to work and was able to leave my dog with him until the end of the day, and when I picked him up and paid, there were no surprises with the bill. Dr. Solwitz called the next day to check on him and we had an additional check up that was quick and painless (and inexpensive...about $50 bucks). I'm happy to know he is in the area in case any other emergencies arise. I'd highly recommend him. read more
