Maybe they are just tired, maybe they don't care as they have in the past. $500 for a 4 lb cat euthanasia and simple nothing extra cremation is unheard of cost in this area and should be transparently communicated at the beginning of the appointment, not during pick up. Moving on to a new vet after 30 years, where I at least am told prices up front and can make decisions that don't impact my budget so grossly. in the past it was in the $300 range.

I tried to give the benefit of the doubt, maybe he didn't know what to say or felt awkward. But when I returned to pick up her ashes and saw him again, the silence repeated itself. Still nothing. I understand that I wasn't a regular client. He didn't know me. He didn't know my cat. But as a veterinarian, I had hoped he would understand what the loss of a pet feels like and that, in those moments, a small gesture of kindness goes a long way.
