Dr. Nickell was the only vet who was able to solve a persistent skin issue with my senior cat after two other clinics told me to either accept his discomfort or sedate him. She found a solution that treated the root cause and preserved his quality of life. On top of that, she also identified a heart murmur in my dog--something our previous vet office completely missed--all on her very first day at the office! A few months ago, when a stray kitten wandered into my yard (and heart), the team got me an appointment within 24 hours with Dr. Suhie, who was incredibly gentle, personable, and helpful with my unexpected new fur baby. We've also had the pleasure of working with Dr. Anita Kinscher, who has been just as fantastic as the other two. The reception team is always warm and welcoming. On a side note, waiting area has been updated within the couple years and always feels clean. This is a stark contrast to my previous vet in Strongsville, where the front desk staff often seemed annoyed to answer the phone or check someone in. Finally, every single vet tech I've met has been loving, patient, and extremely knowledgeable. They take their time gaining the trust of my timid dog and absolutely dote on my cats. It's clear that everyone here is genuinely committed to their work and passionate about the animals they care for.

Update: I will leave the previous review text below, but I want to update my main score since they…read morehave apparently addressed the problem. I had initially given them 5 stars, so I will simply revert to that with the understanding that I have not had any animals seen at Gateway in a few years. It was never a matter of not caring enough- all of my encounters reflected a staff of people who were very dedicated to the care they were giving. And no, I wasn't pressured in any way to change my review. It's important to me to be as accurate and fair as possible. I am just now reading the response from Gateway, as I don't use Yelp often, so I am updating my review based on the new information. Previous Review: We went to Gateway for several years for our dogs. They had good pricing and the staff was friendly, competent, and clearly passionate about the work they did. These qualities can be really hard to find... especially the combination of reasonable pricing and competent, passionate care. I gave Gateway a 5-star rating when I first reviewed them 8 years ago. The problem is the walk-in only nature of the practice, paired with significant changes in how Gateway is run. I suspect that they may have been sold to equity investors or similar schemes that ultimately destroy so many good vet practices, but I am not sure. Before covid even showed up, I found myself avoiding taking the dogs to the vet because I couldn't handle sitting and waiting for HOURS every single time. Didn't matter if I showed up before they opened- the line was already long. I am physically disabled, so sitting for hours in their waiting room had a physical cost in addition to the fact that most people don't enjoy waiting for long periods of time. The last time we went, we were told to cue up outside more than an hour before opening to even have a shot at being seen that day. It was absolutely horrible having to stand in the freezing cold for so long, our sick dog waiting with us. Despite being this early, we weren't ultimately seen until mid day. It isn't even a first come first served situation. They aren't primarily an emergency vet yet they triage. So you'll be sitting there watching so many go ahead of you unless your pet is experiencing a medical emergency. This seems like a reasonable approach on paper, but unfortunately it means that a visit to Gateway requires me to clear my schedule for the entire day and that just is not reasonable. It also isn't fair to the animals- especially if they're sick or otherwise frail. The people who founded Gateway are long gone, as is the wonderful service they provided. If you're desperate to have your pet seen (and you can manage to show up first thing in the morning and wait several hours to be seen), maybe it's a good fit for you. Otherwise keep looking.

On top of this, today we received a sympathy card from them that contained wildflower seeds that we can plant in her memory. So touching! What a classy thing to do. Lastly, I wanted to mention how appreciative we are that, unlike most other veterinary services who will gouge you for the same service, their pricing is reasonable. They don't take advantage of you in your time of need.

Later I brought in two rescue dogs that we rescued about a week after we rescued them for a health check up. Rescue dogs can be unpredictable but the veterinarian and veterinary assistant managed to put them at ease. I will definitely return and plan to for grooming service which they also offer.

Shevak helped my scottie and I knew would check and have the best interest of my dog. Brought my new puppy here for dr. Travis. I suspected it was from bones she had been chewing, but Dr. Singleton pushed for an ultrasound and pancreas test, suggesting something more serious. Everything came back normal--it was, in fact, the bones. On Mother's Day, my dog began having accidents in the house, and I suspected a UTI. After trying home treatment with no improvement, I brought her back in. They performed an ultrasound, x-ray, and bladder culture, then told me her bladder was five times its normal size and suggested it "could be cancer." As any pet owner can imagine, hearing that was terrifying. I was overwhelmed with fear and panic. I was shaking and felt as if I have left my body. I asked Dr. Singleton why she would make such a suggestion without definitive evidence. She didn't give a clear response. I explained that I had been bringing my dog there for almost a year and that each time there was a concern, I was met with alarming and worst-case-scenario possibilities, which never turned out to be true. When I questioned the pattern of worst-case scenarios, Dr. Singleton told me she felt attacked and even asked if I knew vets die by suicide over things like this. I found this response extremely inappropriate and manipulative. At that point, I lost all trust in their care. I switched vets. It took over two weeks and four phone calls to get my dog's records transferred. The new vet quickly diagnosed a severe infection NOT cancer that had likely gone untreated for a month. I've filed a complaint with the BBB. This clinic has a long-standing reputation, but in my experience, the focus was on upselling unnecessary tests through fear, not on my dog's well-being. My biggest concern wasn't the cost--I'm more than willing to spend whatever it takes to care for my dog. What was truly difficult was the emotional toll of being led to believe she might be facing something life-threatening, only to find out it was something minor and they put me through that for higher paychecks. For every negative review, they appear to post or prompt two positive ones to bury the criticism. You actually have to dig to find the bad reviews--clearly an effort to make honest feedback harder to see. Please do your research before bringing your pet here!!
