This was a…read morebreathtaking shock to our family because our boy Boomer was his normal self and presented no symptoms whatsoever (the tumor was found during a routine annual with his primary care veterinarian). We were able to get into VCA and see Dr. Michelle Meyer in just a matter of days. Dr. Meyer's professionalism and surgical expertise impressed us all. A CT-scan told the awful story, Boomer required invasive surgery to remove the mass. Surgery took place on 15 DEC 21. Boomer did well in the OR and the 0.5 pound tumor (this is a 20 pound dog, mind you) along with good margins at the adhesion point on his bladder was successfully resected. Boomer was two days in the hospital and while the cost of saving his life was substantial (histopathology is still pending), I would do it all over again at VCA if I had to. Dr. Meyer's staff, most notably Vet Tech Morgan, were exemplary in their aftercare and support; Morgan was especially helpful in answering questions about medication and cheering us on as we navigated the sometimes scary and sometimes stressful road to recovery. We are approaching Boomer's re-check and anticipated release to full mischief in the house and on the trail. This has been a harrowing but deeply rewarding Christmas season. Thank you, VCA.

Terrible experience without even getting started. I emphasized this was an opportunity to get to meet the staff and speak with the doc regarding possible options for the management of this diagnosis. She requested med recs be sent before the client could be seen. I expressed that I was only looking to see if this would be a good fit and if the visit went well I would then be prepared to transfer the client to this office and have recs sent. She continued to tell me the client cannot be seen without prior records and vaccinations. I stated to her I have had the little guy for 15 years and can answer any questions the doc may have regarding history and therapies and again reinforced this was an initial visit and not requesting any treatment. She continued to repeat her request for records and I explained I did not want to request recs until I was prepared to transfer if this was a good fit. She stated the client cannot be seen without recs transferred. After much back and forth I informed her that if this initial attempt for a visit was any indication for future visits that this would not be a good fit. I requested the appointment be cancelled. It's terrible since this was a referral and I unfortunately did not have good feedback to the person referring. I have had many difficulties getting appropriate treatment historically for him and this is why I basically wanted to have a discussion with the team to understand whether there was an opportunity for the team and myself to be on the same page for treatment moving forward. Unfortunately this has catastrophically failed right at the gatekeeper Danielle. This is just my experience and take it as you will but if the face of the business doesn't get you to want to come in then the rest of it will be less than.
