This company goes above and beyond! I moved from Minneapolis to Washington DC. While other…read morecompanies were quoting me nearly 3x as much and worse service, U-Pack came thru with a much better quote and unbelievable customization for what I needed. I hired movers in Minneapolis and loaded up the truck. Four days later, u-pack arrived with my stuff ready for my Washington DC movers to unload it. If I had one complaint (I don't, but /if/ I did,), it would be that u-pack won't help you on the other end of the transaction. If you're moving to a suburb or a place with a loading dock, you're 100% fine. I was moving into the city and needed to have parking for this semi, which proved very difficult since I didn't yet live in the city. Even so, U-Pack worked with me to find a visible solution and ended up storing my items on the truck for a few extra days until my parking permits could take effect. Final comment on this: on what was already a very challenging and stressful move, their dispatchers and drivers were a 6/5 stars. They were so nice and patient. I told one dispatcher the problem with parking and she said "you sound so stressed, sweetie. Don't worry, we'll find you a solution. Welcome to DC." I seriously would have hugged her through the phone if I could have.

Their policy of pay for only what you use is great - we had two ReloCubes delivered and only used one. No hidden fees or taxes, unlike Pods! Reading the BBB reviews of Packrat scared me away, so I stuck it out with UPack and couldn't be more satisfied. My ReloCube arrived well ahead of schedule and it was dropped off early in the morning. Just a word of advice though: When loading your contents, don't call to schedule your pickup until it's totally ready! They don't offer pickup windows. I asked them to pick it up at the end of the day (which they said they'd try but couldn't guarantee it) and it came at 10am - yikes I wasn't ready! Thankfully they came back the next day for no charge. Barb on the phone was really personable and pleasant. She gave me a suggestion on what to check out on my road trip and it was awesome! Thank you so much UPack I'll recommend you any day!

They said they were not given the correct description of the services I needed and I was going to be slapped with a huge surcharge if I passed the 2-hour mark. During booking the appointment, I went over what I need TWICE to make sure it was clear, no surprises. I ended up moving the small stuff myself, and called off work. Super Inconvenient.

When I called and threw a fit, then suddenly they wanted to do something about it. Then, all of a sudden, my price went up by hundreds of dollars after I asked if they accepted cash because I had already gone and gotten the remaining balance after putting down the 20% deposit. Then they didn't even have the proper tools to break down my furniture, and these kids actually argued with me about MY dining room table, telling me I didn't need the legs taken apart. Like, who the hell is going to pay for it if something gets damaged?! Well, guess what? They proceeded to bend one of the legs of my table. Then they completely damaged the walls in my bedroom, and guess who has to pay to have a painter come touch them up? Me! Now I'm at the storage facility watching them literally drag my stuff across the floor. They half-assed wrapped everything, and the parts they're dragging aren't even properly wrapped. I am absolutely livid. If I wasn't moving out of state, I would seriously be looking into suing them for breach of contract because this is completely unacceptable. Oh, and my glass wasn't even properly wrapped. They literally just threw it in like it was nothing and expected it to be fine. Like, what the actual fuck?! I just finished, and they completely ripped me off. They quoted me one price, and then at the end tried to tell me they had only quoted me for an hour and a half, which is a complete lie! Then they said they were there for three hours, which is true, but during a good portion of that time they were literally waiting around for someone to bring them the tools they needed to take apart the furniture that needed to be taken apart. So now they're trying to charge me for time they wasted because they showed up unprepared. TAM is a total scammer. I'm beyond pissed because I paid for a service and got charged extra for their own incompetence.

My brother-on-law moved 3 trailers full of stuff, going back and forth from Hugo to Blaine before they even got to my house the first time, we all left at the same time. I think they were intentionally slow so they could charge us 4x's the amount quoted to me for an entire day (which is only 4 hours for them). They also broke multiple items, even with their "insurance" I was not reimbursed for anything. I also had to have them correct the contract 5 times before they actually got it correct. This company is horrible, if I could give them negative stars I would. This company is so crooked they are a circle! Response: your crew did not take an unpaid lunch break, it was included in the time they added to my bill at the end. They also very much pressure me to tip them because, as they put it, "This company does not pay us very well." Not only was I quoted roughly $1500, and it ended up costing me almost $5K for the service, I ended up tipping them because they know where I live and I didn't want anything to happen to my wife, and your crew took more breaks than they actually worked. Regardless of what you say, your company is crooked, incompetent, and needs to be put out of business. My next report is to the BBB!

The bid was binding which also left me feeling like I wouldn't get the old bait and switch. The driver and his loaders (2) were careful and cautious with my belongings. I packed all of my items with the exception of larger furniture items. So they just needed to put them in the truck. It took a little less than 8 hrs to load my 3 bedroom home. The driver had great communications along the way. Harvey was predicted to hit the day my possessions were to arrive. So the driver called and kept me informed that he wasn't allowed to enter Houston because of flooding. As soon as the weather cleared he delivers the goods on a Sunday, no less. The local unloading team (2) was efficient and professional. It took them about 4.5 hours to unload. No damage to the house. NO damage, nothing missing no banged up boxes. Everything was done well. I would absolutely recommend Metcalf for long distance move!!

We were told they try and get the estimate within 10% yet this is a 30% increase. We specifically requested an in person walk through ( versus a remote walk though) so they could actually see what needed to be moved to aid them in giving us an accurate estimate . A slight adjustment is to be expected but $2000 is extreme. It is not our fault they miscalculated. We would've gone with a different mover if Metcalf quoted us as much as they are charging now. It makes it seem as if they under bid to secure the job and then charge far more afterwards. Additionally, when we walked through the house after they packed it, several drawers in the kitchen had been left unpacked and totally full. Storage in the family room built in still had items in it. Also, we have missing items including fine dining silver (a wedding gift) and jewelry among other items. Lastly, one of the movers became very argumentative with us after he ripped up the plastic floor protector and refused to put it back down even though they were still moving boxes into the house. Even the other movers were confused by this man's behavior- it was very strange and totally inappropriate. On the plus side, most of the movers were very nice and hard working. The 2 gentlemen who came to unpack were exceedingly nice, worked hard and had great attitudes. Again, the list of the items which may not be replaceable is making this move very difficult. Moving is hard enough as it is, there shouldn't be major issues like these from a company that charges thousands of dollars to supposedly make your move easier . We cannot in good faith, and would not recommend Metcalf Moving and Storage.

My parents liked the manager, and the packing team was very good, which was heartening because according to Indeed, the job pays at or near minimum wage. The local moving company they work with did a good job too, picking up items from the house and from a warehouse to bring to the apartment. After speaking with a few friends who were customers under Gentle Transitions ownership, I see the fees have gone up since the company was sold to a national business, and is owned by a private equity firm. If you're not price sensitive, this is a great service. But if you do want to be thoughtful, it pays to get a few bids and ask each company where money can be saved. And even before you ask for a bid, be aggressive about donating or giving away possessions!! There are so many options in the Twin Cities. Also, if you want to supply some boxes, it is cheaper to provide you own, as we paid for every box they supplied (even though we didn't keep them) and for everyones time, and it adds up quickly. But remind them on the day since between the bid and packing day, staffing changed and some of our boxes were missed. Side bar: is you're starting a pile of things to donate, place them together in the same room so they're mentally out of the way. Few things to look at means less brain energy going toward constant mental sorting. Moving is nothing but decisions decisions decisions. Start now and you'll feel better in the long run.
