The mechanics were great and didn't try to overcharge a poor college student.

They have all the tools and garage space you need to do just about any job. He even called Napa and had parts delivered while I was there. While I was working on the car the owner told me that any time my daughter needed to work on her car she could bring it in and he would help her with it. We put that to the test a couple weeks ago. I have since moved to Virginia and my daughter found out she needed new struts on her car. She has virtually no experience working on cars, but she got the parts and took it in to the Tuning Spot and the owner helped her install them and new brake pads and rotors. This easily saved her a couple thousand dollars. It makes me very happy knowing that since I can't be there for her there is a place she can go that I can trust.

If you want your car repaired James (&/or assistants) this should be your place. There's people (a mixed bag" and then there are "good people". That is James McNamer and crew. Service so good (and reasonable) you'll want to tip! I did. A car repair place with integrity? Yes, it can happen. And happens here. James is a combination of being a great person and very bright car repairman - and like many of us a top car aficionado. If you get him talking on cars and types he'll likely know much more than you do about your fav. One of my favorite businesses I have found. Period.

Went in with an engine that was overheating and they diagnosed it as a bad water pump. I was given an estimate of $1,050 to fix it so I took it to a place a friend recommended for a second opinion and they discovered a hairline crack in the radiators. The water pump was in good shape. They fixed it and it's not overheated since. I also had rear ball joints replaced twice, once here and once at the Firestone shop on the business loop over an18-month period because they kept going out. Around $3,200 total for the two fixes/visits. Then they go out for a third time and I take it to another shop. Rear axel was damaged/bent causing excessive wear on the ball joints. Axel was fixed which resolved the problem. So, not diagnosing the cause of the excessive wear on the ball joints cost me $3,000 before getting it fixed properly. The shop I go to now has been a locally owned business for 30+ years and all their mechanics have been there at least 20 years. It appears the problem with franchise auto shops is they have high turnover and mechanics are young and don't have decades of experience. I will still go to Firestone for oil change, tires, and tire rotation. But no more major repairs. The manager and personnel there are organizing and professional. It's their track record for diagnosing unknown problems that's questionable. I would suggest you get a second opinion if you go there and the suggested repairs are over $1,000. The extra time and effort to do so may save you thousands of dollars.
