Kin No Tori Ramen Bar. New ramen restaurant at Midtown Place. Opened late January 2020.

Midtown Place is the large, suburban-style shopping center that sits on busy and often-congested Ponce De Leon Ave on Midtown's east border with Virginia-Highland. It's directly across the street from Ponce City Market, but was built many years before PCM. Midtown Place opened in 1999 while PCM opened in 2014. The Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail, which was also built many years after Midtown Place, runs adjacent to the backside of the shopping center's storefronts. Unfortunately, the trail does not connect to the shopping center like it does with PCM and other parts of the neighborhood. I've been a regular visitor to this shopping center since 2000. People generally don't like it for a few main reasons: 1. The parking lot is often congested and packed. I once had an impatient driver honk at and talk s*** to me for not leaving my parking spot fast enough (I was trying to get Waze set up before beginning my drive). 2. There are only two entry/exit points to this busy shopping center and they're both on Ponce De Leon Ave, an Atlanta street which is infamous for its traffic and congestion. 3. Cars get booted here all the time. Don't even think about parking here and going somewhere else like PCM or the BeltLine. You will get booted. The parking enforcers here are great at their jobs. They'll swoop in and have a boot on your wheel before you know it. With the way the surrounding neighborhoods have evolved over the years, Midtown Place does seem out of place these days. It's a prototypical suburban big box development plopped right into the middle of an urban area. Currently, the big tenants/anchors are The Home Depot, PetSmart, Staples, Whole Foods, and T.J. Maxx, and there are other big name chains like CVS, Mattress Firm, and Starbucks too. Getting in to and out of this shopping center, and parking, requires patience. I'm a pretty patient person so this shopping center's less-than-ideal setup hasn't bothered me too much, but I do understand people's pain and frustration with it. At least it gives us a Home Depot in the city, even though it's not the easiest to get to -- it's awkwardly tucked all the way towards the back and there's only one way to get to it. I do remember parking at the movie theater at Midtown Promenade (the shopping center next door), many years ago, seeing Home Depot a stone's throw away, and wondering why there wasn't a better and easier way to get to it. Chalk it up to poor planning and design, and perhaps bad luck and timing too, I guess. Thomas Wheatley of Creative Loafing wrote an interesting piece on this place, published August 4, 2016. It's worth reading: https://creativeloafing.com/content-405099-midtown-place-is-stuck-between-a-beltline-and-a-hard.

Money Extortion business. STAY AWAY, All shoppers! Atlanta based company Empire Parking Service is illegally booting vehicles in Atlanta according to Georgia Law Code OCGA 44-1-13. This is the Code Section that allows the towing of trespassing vehicles on private property. What it DOES NOT do is allow the booting or immobilization of vehicles on private property in the State of Georgia. In other words, it is illegal to boot cars in Georgia on private property. As the First time visitors of the state Georgia and Atlanta, we visited The WholeFoods store located at the Midtown Place property for the first time. Also, while the car remained parked there, we crossed the street to pick up baby items in another store. In Normal cities you don't expect a trick at the Shopping Mall parking and don't need to read fine prints at the parking signs there when you simply go shopping. Enters Midtown Place business with their Deceptive Business Practices! APPARENTLY this property is practicing MONEY EXTORTION business by having a Rule that you Can't Leave the property without your car, else you pay the fine. EPS is the company they hired to exercise this rule. When we came back after shopping for 1h we had our car Booted. We had no choice but to pay this business $75 (Yes, $75!) to get our car released. Explanations that we are the patrons of the WholeFoods store didn't help, the guy just wanted our money. Calling 911, asking Customer Relations at the WholeFoods did not help - they don't have influence here. STAY AWAY from this unfriendly place that is robbing first time visitors by having ILLEGAL parking rules!

    Poor Signage

We started our evening by shopping at Home Depot, in which we purchased a close to $400 Christmas Tree along with some sample paint. Home Depot is located in the Midtown Place shopping center, hence contributing to the property management company. Perhaps the property management company is not in the business of property management, but rather using predatory business tactics by imposing a $75 a day fee on cars. Our vehicle was left for roughly an hour. Admittedly, we did leave our car in the parking lot and walk across to Ponce. On our walk back, we were passed by a woman with a boot in hand who repeatedly said, "You're not supposed to park here so your car has been bottled." The language and grammar used was that of a person who preys on and feels satisfaction from causing people emotional and financial distress. The parking service used was Empire Parking Service, which also seems to enjoy capitalizing from property managers who post unreadable signage sparingly in hopes of fattening their bottom line. (I have included a picture of the "abundant signage posted around the property" that is arguably neither abundant nor legible from a distance.) Furthermore, it seems to be the case that the targets of their scheme are the very patrons that shop at the establishments they provide building space to. Sharing my experience in hopes of saving the next person from spending an excessive amount of money on parking. Unfortunately, it is clear there are others based off the reviews who make a last minute decision to go grab some dinner after paying a noticeable amount of money to keep the lights on for a property manager who enjoys taking advantage of others. 0/10 will not be back again, and will happily drive a bit longer to make sure Midtown Place doesn't take advantage of me again.

After parking in the middle of the lot. I realize I forgot chapstick at home. So before going shopping, my friend and I walked around the corner to buy chapstick at CVS and then processed upstairs afterwards to unique threading and then down stairs to the other shops.. Whole Foods, TJ maxx.. Obviously my car was booted and the guy that took it off said the "spotters" saw us walk to Starbucks.. we never once went to Starbucks. When I said I went to CVS first he told me CVS was technically off the property. According to midtown place, CVS is part of it.

BEWARE!! Huge scam going on in this shopping center! Be prepared to pay $75 for a visit to TJ maxx

Avoid at all costs! You will get booted and you are on camera! The owners of this parking lot do not care for anybody on the property and are just trying to make a quick $75 dollars. If you park here you better stay near your car or else you'll have to pay! The customer call number on the ticket was no help just a snarky know it all on the other line that was not interested in anything I had to say. Enjoy the quick cash! Never coming to shop at these stores ever again!

Don't come here! It's a terrible place! They boot your car after you leave for minutes and force you to pay $75.

You will get booted and charged $75. It isn't worth trying to shop even if you have receipt.

First of all it was Toco Hills (Where is THAT?), and it was basically a lot of dead space, a huge, mostly pot-hole riddled parking lot, and not-so-well-known businesses. According to Edens Property, the management company that owns both Toco Hills Shopping Center and its adjacent neighboring property Toco Hills Promenade, Toco Hills Shopping Center encompasses both Salaryman and Toco Giant Package Store, all of the stores in the row from Iron Age and north to Sushi Matsuya, and all of the stores in the row of businesses from UPS Store to Frugal Kitchens, and the two empty stores past Frugal Kitchens. This is a very confusing set up, because it isn't visually obvious that there are three different shopping centers, but looks like only one. Anyway, Toco Hills Shopping Center had fallen into sad disrepair years ago, with mostly discount businesses taking up the retail spaces, if there were even existing businesses. At that time there were many empty stores. Thankfully, there have been positive transformations in the shopping center over the past six years, resulting in it becoming a popular destination for shopping, restaurants and services. The parking lot has been redone, and all of the retail areas received a much needed makeover. In short, the entire Toco Hills Shopping Center look so much better now, so much more welcoming, and is now a lot busier. In addition, the overall quality of the businesses appears to have motivated more people to shop, dine and receive services So far, the shops that I've gone to in Toco Hills Shopping Center are Iron Age Korean Steak House, Spiller Park Coffee and Sushi Matsuya, having OK to great experiences. I will definitely return to experience more businesses here when I'm back in the area.
