While we were simply picking up a net to prepare for our time slot--without even entering the room yet--the Pilates instructor shouted at us, claiming she had the room reserved until 12:30 PM. Actually her class was done and she already packed to leave the front door. The room was completely empty. As long-term members, we were not interfering with her class or disobeying any regulations. Being yelled at in public for no reason was humiliating and unprofessional. This level of disrespect is not what I expect from YMCA staff, and it truly ruined our day. I hope management addresses this behavior, as instructors should maintain a basic level of courtesy toward members."

Nevertheless, the staff doesn't seem to understand the meaning of LAP SWIM. They allow people to linger and stand around in the lanes while people wait to swim. I worked from a desk, and was a couch potato at night that couldn't bench press my own body weight. I was on sleeping pills, anti-depressants and was not eating. Mike encouraged me to stop by and try a class. So I did! It was a small class. I think there were 3 of us, and I had brought a friend! Brian was the instructor. He had a quiet, calm voice. He asked to look at my gait, and what sports I'd played, while he probably sized up how hard he could push me. :) I remember being a little sore after class that day but I came back. And it was after one of those first week's classes that I remember driving home happy! I was staying with friends and I burst into the kitchen smiling from ear to ear as they were getting ready for the day. Endorphins! And I was hooked. I had been a member of many gyms. Mostly for less than a year. The habit never stuck. Gyms don't give personalized instruction every day, nor do the members cheer you on and congratulate you after a workout. Gyms don't have a long term plan or program. Mike does! This sh*t works. I gained the 50 lbs back. I lifted 400 lbs. I did a muscle up! My advice to you is to try it. Pay for a month. If you like it, you will wonder why you didn't go sooner. If you don't like it, you might like the people and coaches and make some friends.

You may have to wait for the leg press machine etc. The facilities are very clean. The water fountain (bub-bla) was broken earlier this week. Not sure if it's fixed yet. The PF crew are very friendly and helpful. My experience thus far is that it truly is a "no judgement" zone. The gym goers are all very respectful making sure that the Equipment is wiped down and placed back where they belong. I think you get a lot of bang for your buck with PF and the facilities fit different lifestyles and fitness goals.
