I recently had Mark at Midstate Camera Repair clean and change the light leak foams and mirror damper cushion on my 42-year-old Nikon FM. While the camera had worked flawlessly ever since I bought it, I had not used it for the last 6-8 years with the advent of digital photography and the accompanying decline in film. The foam in the light seals and the mirror damper were starting to give. Mark did a really all-round good job: changing the light seals and the mirror damper, cleaning the viewfinder, checking the shutter speeds, and my FM that I always considered an engineering marvel is as good as new. I recently made a booboo with my DSLR camera. It wasn't a major discretion, but I kinda sorta touched something inside the camera trying to clean a hair I saw in my viewfinder and after that things were out of wack (I totally tried to clean the wrong thing). I looked online for a local camera repair shop and found Midstate Camera Repair. My camera booboo occurred on a Saturday afternoon, and they close at noon on Saturdays and are closed Sundays, so I panicked for an entire weekend before I could drop my camera off first thing Monday morning. Well let's just say I was super relieved after bringing my camera in to Midstate Camera Repair. It's owned by two brothers and they are both so nice. They told me not to worry and that the part of the camera I had inadvertently touched was something they could easily clean and even if the part had somehow gotten scratched and needed to be replaced (it was some kind of internal lens made of frosted glass, can't remember what it's called) it would only cost an extra $10. Cleaning it was $45. This was a lot cheaper than I thought it would be because I wasn't sure what was wrong and at the time it wasn't even taking pictures so I was freaking out. Not gonna lie. Mark (one of the owners) told me my camera would probably be ready by the following Wednesday, but I actually got a call a few hours later letting me know it was already fixed and ready to go! What a delightful surprise! Not only was it cheap, but also fast, and the service can't be beat. I know that from now on I will NOT take it upon myself to try and clean stray hairs or dust or whatnot from inside my camera because I will inadvertently screw up my camera. I've learned my lesson and from now on I will only be bringing it to Midstate Camera Repair for all of my camera needs! read more

I have had trouble selling my Canon kit zoom lens (18-135mm) because it had lots of dust inside from zooming the lens (zoom lenses stink that way) Midstate Camera Repair managed to clean out 95% of the dust and tested the lens functions for me. Workers are straight to the point. They will give you a repair quote before charging you anything.This is great since you're not forced to pay up front. My Canon Powershot SD780 IS had a broken video/camera switch button so I couldn't switch between the camera and video recording mode. Not only did Midstate fix my Canon but they replaced the back body of my camera with a less scratched one. They also gave me a free carrying strap for my camera. The fix was cheap and fast and I got some free goodies. I will definitely come back again for any camera servicing. read more

Awesome. Took a 1975?6?7?8?? Pentax K1000 to repair some last minute mistake we made trying to clean it ourselves at home. I am so glad I found this place! I am a professional photographer and my 70 to 200 mm lens (my baby) was suddenly taking very blurry photos. I called a few places but Midstate was by far the most personable off the bat. I brought my camera and lens there and they got back to me with a free quote within two days. My lens needed so much work that they were going to have to ship it off to Nikon. As you can imagine this was unnerving to say the least. The cost, the time without my best lens, etc. Midstate calmed my nerves and reassured me that although this will be costly, I will be getting back a lens in "like new" condition. Not to mention they took care of all of the communication and shipping to and from Nikon. While the lens was at Nikon, I called Midstate more times than necessary to check in and they were always friendly and even made me laugh! Was dreading to take my camera in as I thought it would have been expensive to repair. Camera fell on ground and lense filter smashed. Couldn't get the filter off and feared my camera was broken! When my camera suddenly stopped working and I was desperate to get it fixed but also not able to pay a fortune these guys bailed me out. They were super nice, super fast, and super affordable. I own a small photo business, Victory Photos. We are event photographers though we do mostly sports. Shooting sports full time is murder on cameras.
