We ordered the big sampler platter which was a mistake because we couldn't eat much of it. We are probably 1/4 mile from the ocean, but I seriously doubt this fish was fresh because it didn't look or taste fresh. The kicker is that when it arrived it didn't come with any wasabi, so we asked for some. The waitress returned with 3 tiny packets of wasabi. It was gross. At the end we wanted something to get the nasty flavor out of our mouths, so we asked for ginger. Once again she returned with 2 tiny plastic packets of the nastiest ginger ever. I don't normally give 1-star reviews, but this was beyond awful.

First off, the cooks were not Japanese and the authenticity stopped there but I wasn't expecting much. Only a few types of ramen: miso, shio, shoyu, vegetarian. I had the miso and it tasted nothing like what it should have been. Broth was watered down, noodles were like spaghetti and itsy bitsy pieces of chasu. At 8€ its a decent deal. Service was aright as there was one person for orders/serving. She was Japanese and spoke English/Espanol. The gyudon was actually ok for a small snack.

Recently coming off a service-oriented disappointment at R***n-*a, I was in the neighborhood without a dinner reservation and wanted to grab a quick bite. Enter Samurai. Literally the mirror experience. Service was awesome. Pleasant, great English language skills, quick but highly efficient. Sort of makes me hate that the food just wasn't good. At all. Alright, the food. The broths were all horrible. Oversalted, albeit very slightly, even for ramen standards, poor ingredient usage, and unclear how the underlying broth was put together. The flavors of the broth should be subtle, not overwhelming -- literally tasted like a common broth doused with soy or miso (or a cheap miso substitute) before serving. The noodles were not legit. Half the toppings were Chinese and not Japanese (cabbage?! wtf). The egg was not properly soft boiled. They use small chunks of pork and fat. What happened to using chashu?! I'm dumbfounded. Even if you call this fusion, it's improperly executed. Also tried a don, except I would have been hard pressed to identify it without knowing what I had ordered. Come on, guys, at least try a little to make it authentic. If you've had a decent gamut of ramen around the world and understand what proper ramen looks and tastes like, skip skip skip and don't look back. If you really, really, really don't know what you're doing and just want a warm bowl of noodles, this place will probably be okay. So sad. I really wanted to like this spot.
