Second best haunted house this year. Just off the strength of the actors alone. Totally worth the money. Love these guys great job!

Could a very brave 6 year old make it through?

I believe so, the couple in front of us had 2 kids the girl looked about 5 and the boy 8 years old and the 5 year old girl did cry in the beginning but again I don't know how brave she is. But they both did make it through the entire way. I hope…

Is it the same scenes as last year?

I didn't go there last year but I do know this year was good

Can 13 year old go there?

Yes

As soon as you enter the line, there's a mini pop up bar where you can get a beer, wine or Jell-O shot while you wait. You then get your picture taken, and then stand in line to enter the house, with live entertainment like ghouls walking around, and a DJ playing a bunch of party music. When we entered the house, it was really detailed and good overall. The actors were on point and did a great job scaring people, and the animatronics inside the house were some of the best I've seen in a haunt. My favorite room might have been the asylum, or the "transport" rooms (I won't spoil these for you). You can expect to spend about 30 minutes in the house itself, which I think is a pretty decent amount of time. There is also a gift shop at the end of haunt with a lot of cool merch you can bring home If you'd like. Definitely check out the Massacre if you have time this Halloween season. P.S. - they also have Christmas and Valentine's Day layovers of the haunted house if you like the regular Halloween season one!

Dead Rising is an intimate haunt located in the back area of a strip mall near a McDonald's. (The…read moreMcDonald's is key for anyone needing to use the restroom, as this haunt doesn't provide restrooms.) Dead Rising isn't your typical walk through haunted attraction with winding dark corridors and monsters popping out with shaker cans, it is much more interactive. After purchasing my VIP ticket to bypass the 30 minute wait I was placed with 4 youth from the general line. The actor tried to split up the groups of friends and place one from each with me, however I do believe the entire line knew each other. I didn't ask, but had the impression they were somehow a large group of classmates. The groups are limited to around 5 people due to the immersive nature of the scenes and the space in the small rooms. I have been attending many haunts alone on my Midwest trip, so it was kind of fun to be placed with kids that were so excitable. At one point they nearly trampled me to escape a clown. I enjoyed watching the actors interact with them more than my personal experiences. I felt like the opening elevator took an especially long time, but other than that the scenes were effective and timed perfectly. The actors did a great job of playing out their scenes. I personally found it to be more of a fun immersive, than a scary haunt. I won't be in town for their adult event, but I spoke with someone about it and apparently it's an even more immersive version including blood splatter, adult language and more. It's a unique event and a good stepping stone for those interested in immersive haunts.

We waited about a half an hour to get in which was not bad at all in my opinion. The longer wait promotes really good spacing and a well paced out experience inside so it's worth it! And the scare actors outside help immerse you in the experience early. For 15 dollars per person, this is so well worth it compared to other larger scale haunted houses in the area. The setting itself is so cool and you can tell they put a lot of work into it. We went in in groups of 8 which was a nice amount in my opinion. I don't scare easily so nothing really got me but that is not at all for lack of trying! There are multiple actors around every corner, cool lighting and interactive effects, and very awesome props for the actors. Caution there are a lot of strobe and flashing light elements if that's an issue for anyone. A lot of others in our group were scared throughout so I would say put yourself in the middle if you want the best experience! We will definitely come back next year and I am so happy that we have something like this in crown point for the season!

I'm the last person who should be reviewing a haunted anything as I can't handle even the most…read moreinnocuous ghost stories enjoyed by tots (e.g. was totally freaked out by Wallace & Gromit in The Curse of the Were-Rabbit). So, the physicality of enclosures designed to terrify adults is just not something that interests me. However, I couldn't be more enthused about this bit of local flavor: Every October, a family in the sleepy town of Roselle sets up three big tents in their front yard and crafts within them a truly excellent Halloween experience for the community. We'd been noticing the tents for a while, but only started investigating them last year. I figured it was going to be the usual cutesy Halloween stuff, but no. The level of creepiness and goriness was such that I couldn't handle actually entering the tents, so I mostly looked on as my partner Wolf R. had a good time checking everything out. But even he got a little surprise at the end: While looking into the coffin in the last tent, he was spooked by a large vampire swinging down from above, and a second later, he was further startled by a person dressed in all black, including a black face mask, creeping up behind him. I'd have laughed if I wasn't so busy making sure nothing was creeping up behind me. This year I felt a bit more bold and decided to follow a whole group of little kids into the leftmost tent, themed like a haunted carnival with evil clowns. This ain't so bad, I thought, enjoying the creative clowns and even snapping a pic. And then, I don't even understand what it was, but the odd noises and spinning lights they'd set up conspired to get under my skin and I felt like I was going to totally lose it if I didn't retreat *immediately*. My god. The middle tent was the gory cannibalistic one, with zombies and body parts and -- well, I won't spoil it for you. It was so gross that I couldn't actually look at it long enough to take a picture. And this year, the last tent was themed like a haunted hotel with black lights. Nothing jumped out at my partner this time but he still loved it. As it turns out, the haunted house also promotes a good cause: They collect non-perishable food for the Bloomingdale Food Pantry. The family also accepts donations if you'd like to chip in to their haunted house efforts. I'm just hoping they'll do a set of friendly winter wondertents one of these Decembers :) Hours: According to the listing on this page (http://www.wlsam.com/calendar/default.asp?DATE=10/11/2012), they're open 6-10PM Thursdays through Sundays in October, with extended hours in the last week of October.

It's a haunted house so I'm not going to get very detailed, that would ruin the fun.
