Best haunted house I've ever been to. It's clear this place has been operated a long time. they just have so much to see and the journey through the three floors is long and varied and fun! My husband and I only regretted not buying the fast pass as the wait in general didn't look long but due to fast pass skipping the line it was over an hour wait for the mansion. We were also a little bummed you couldn't bring beer with you in line while waiting and I got a little annoyed at the kids vaping nonstop in line. Otherwise the attractions themselves were great and I'm so glad I got to experience it! read more

I'll preface this review by saying RR has always been a great haunt and the reason we keep coming back even if it is an hour away. $35 for VIP tix is a good deal for 3 attractions (Mansion, Reaper's Revenge and Haunted woods + 1 carnival ride). Not bad for the price. This year customer service royally pissed us off which is the reason for deducting 2 stars. Here's why: We were here last night (Sat.) and with VIP tix purchased online (still $35/tix. $5 more than general admission fyi, but they tack on a $10 online service fee) we ran into issues entering when we arrived at the counter to present our tickets.. First off - it was a really cold night. 34 degrees. Was I prepared to wait an hour freezing in the VIP line? No and there were NO heat lamps. Vip line didn't look much different than general admission. It was packed, I get it, but lines were moving sllloooowwww. Two women behind the counter couldn't get people in fast enough. We get to the counter and gave them our printed tix. The woman asks for my ID and credit card used and I had left my bag in the car. We were cold and already frustrated by the long wait. She wouldn't budge and said my ID was needed and to come back to the counter. My bf walks all the way back to the car but just grabbed his cc, not my ID. We go back to the counter and this worker is moaning and groaning about how it's against policy to not show an ID even though he had his...blah, blah, blah. They DO NOT scan their tickets. They are not technologically savvy so they have to look up your name on their 'list', cross it off, write down your DL # and ask you to sign your name next to it. Really??? What is the logic behind having your DL # if you have a paid ticket? In all my years of going to haunts I've never had to show an ID and/or CC to enter upon presenting a paid ticket, let alone have my DL # written. I know RR requires ID and my bad for forgetting to grab it, but give me a F'ing break. I stated I could show the email confirmation with the charges, but she declined. I wouldn't let up and was livid at this point. She FINALLY agrees to let us in, throws her hands up in the air and proceeds to tell us how she is going "to hear an earful from her boss". Well, it's either him or me lady.. She points us in the direction of the same long VIP line. I looked at her and said, do you really think we want to wait another 45 minutes after what just transpired? She then let us get in front of the line. Haunted Mansion took 25 min to go through (we timed it). Next attraction; Reaper's Revenge was another line with no VIP access. We waited 35 min before entering. Total time in Revenge: 10-15 min. We were so flipping cold we passed on the Haunted woods which had another huge line. 1st attraction was good. No character's outside while you wait. Screw the VIP tix. You'll wait just as long as general admission. I think we got lucky last year because of the rain and barely any people. Haunted woods was my favorite part but never made it in this year. The huge ordeal we experienced with our tickets, the 60 min wait in the VIP line, the lack of heat lamps given the cold temps, the subsequent additional lines for following attractions void of VIP access, and the countless obnoxious teenagers in front and behind us = 2 stars and this may be our last year here. Take a lesson from Dungeon of Doom. They have their shit together. read more

This was our first year going to Reapers Realm and it was great! We went opening weekend, so it wasn't too crowded (we still waited about an hour in line, but they separated groups nicely, so we never ran into anyone else and vice versa...so it was worth it) First of all, this haunted house was nice and LONG! It went on and on, which was great! Very creative scenes, fun slide, woods was entertaining, etc. To the ladies- one piece of advice- wear comfortable shoes! There are places where the floor boards move in different directions, and heels will NOT work too well...gym shoes all the way! Anyhow, you could easily make an entire evening out of this place, as they have food, carnival rides, games, and 3 different haunted attractions---I would definitely recommend! read more

Worst haunted house I've ever been to. I go to multiple haunted houses all over the country every season and this is by far the worst. Horrible actors, out dated decorations, security guard inside the house at every corner. My boyfriend actually got an electric shock from something protruding from one of the walls. One of the rooms even lost power and all the speakers were blown. We ended up leaving in the middle of the haunted house because there was another long line in the middle and we had enough by then. To put it in perspective for you, out of the hundreds of haunted houses I have been to I have never left one early. Please save your time and money and go anywhere else. read more

This place is almost change your underpants scary and I'm not just talkin about the carnies that roam the place. You will be disoriented, exhausted and entertained when you experience Reaper's Realm. For only 20 (yes TWENTY) bucks you get THREE haunted attractions, the Mansion, the 3-D Nightmare Circus and the Haunted Reaper's Woods, such a deal! I wouldn't bother with the free carnival ride included with the price because as a friend of mine says, "I wouldn't want to ride anything that can be put up and taken down in less than an hour". A cheap way to get your scare on, and afterwards you can lose the money you have left by gambling it away at the nearby riverboat casinoes ;). read more

Saturday evening we decided make the trek just over the border to Reapers Realm--and I'm glad we did! We got there around 8:00pm, and the General Admission line, to get in, was already 2-2 1/2 hrs, an employee said (That's the $20.00 per person line). OR you can instead pay $30.00 per person for "VIP," and you get to, pretty much, skip to the front of the line. To me, time is money, so we did that, and we waited less than 10 minutes. It is definitely worth the extra $10 per person. The Haunted Mansion took a total of about 45 minutes to get through. It was very good! And scary! Even my boyfriend got scared a couple of times, so I knew it wasn't just me. After the mansion, you go through Reapers Woods. To me, it wasn't that great (Hence, one star off). It seemed more like an afterthought. But the Mansion was great. I would definitely go back! read more

I've been going to this haunted house for several years now. I always have a ton of fun with friends and the displays/set up is pretty well done and awesome. It takes me a good 45-1:00hr to get through it, but I always pay for everything including the woods. I would rate it a 7/10 on the scary factor, but a 10/10 on the fun factor :) The only reason I took one star off was because the woods aren't really worth the extra money. I agree with the previous user that it was more like an afterthought. Helpful tip: Wear gym shoes people!! They do have some rides/food outside, and this is always amusing. read more

Reapers Realm is part haunted house, part haunted trail, and part carnival. The prices are very reasonable (compared to most chicago area haunts) and the haunted houses were scary but not too intense. Be prepared to crouch and squeeze through some spaces! Actors were great and staff was very nice at every attraction. Buy your tickets online to save time and be sure to bring your ID and credit card. Parking was also affordable at just $3. Port a potties on site. We went on the Sunday before Halloween and paid for the VIP tickets and our wait was less than 15 minutes. Would recommend you go to get in the Halloween spirit! read more

It's that time of year again. I have been here a handful of times. The prices are great compared to others and the mansion isn't just in and out like others. This place is worth it because it's quite long which is what everyone is looking for. The only downside is a lot has changed. Last year (2017)was the worst experience of this place. It was not very scary , boring, same old stuff and quite understaffed. They move people in all together and if your right behind someone you see them get scared first so you expect what's coming and it's not like you can slow down because there is already a group coming in behind you so you have to keep it moving. I will be going this year so I am looking forward to see if anything's new. I will be back with an updated review afterwards. Please don't disappoint this year reapers!!! read more

Super disappointed. Lesson of the evening was "should've stuck with Statesville." Let me say, this place has potential to be awesome but there were some MAJOR flaws. First of all, it's way understaffed with actors. There were so many fantastic missed opportunities to be scared! I led my group most of the way and only was jumped out at three times. C'mon guys!!! In the beginning you crawl through a modified hearse. Ugh. No. Stop it. Pain in the ass! It's not scary, everything was falling out of my pockets, and it slowed the momentum down. Get rid of it please! There was a hallway that had parts of the walls SHOCK you! I'm still pissed about this. It wasn't scary, it was painful! It doesn't seem right that they can have this in a haunted house without warning. The slide is awful. Even though it was fairly dead when we went (pun intended), the slides took forever! The two women working the slides were super rude, and not in character or dressed up. It takes you away from the haunted house feeling, which I don't understand. The slides themselves are super uncomfortable and painful. I'm only 23 but I felt way too old to be on them. Then a stranger grabbed me by the hand at the bottom to pull me up. I don't like having to be forced down a slide just to rely on a stranger to get me to my feet. My keys went flying out of my pocket as I landed too. It seemed super out of place and ruined the haunted house for me. I spent $25 to do the mansion and haunted "woods". Ugh what a waste!!!! They were both way too short and not scary. The guy in the first room in the woods wrapped rope around my friends neck rather tightly. Wtf man. Not cool. Word of advice: skip this place. read more

We've been going to Reaper's Realm for years and years - it was always one of my top local haunts. However, we went last night (10/25/14), and it was just horrible. I still can't believe it as this was a SATURDAY NIGHT. Not only that, it was the Saturday night before Halloween! It should've been crazy amped up, but it was just the opposite. The Mansion has only one good thing going for it - the constant shifting landscapes inside - meaning, the actual floors and elevations change throughout. There are also many spots where you need to squeeze through or crouch down. This would be a GREAT setup if there were actual actors in there to take advantage of you, but there aren't. Also, the rooms are just rooms - not many great props at all. I felt like everyone must've been on a smoke break when we went through. We literally went through three rooms in a row without a single actor. I'm sorry, but I can smear stage blood and vomit in my garage and it doesn't make it scarier. You have to have actual actors. The few actors in the house were terrible. They looked bored and if they did bother to go after us, they were horrible at it - you could see them a mile away. They either didn't know what they were doing or didn't care. It was just awful. After we finally got out of the mansion - we realized we barely even heard screaming. That's NOT a good sign when you're standing outside of a "Haunted House". The second "attraction" - the Dark House was even worse. We talked about the fact that sections of the mansion were darker. There was just nothing scary about it. Again, hardly any actors, and those that were in there were ineffective. If I owned this haunt, I'd fire every one of them. The Woods was laughable. I think I counted six actors in the whole thing. A total joke. Needless to say, we left angry and disappointed. I was especially upset having paid $40 per ticket for the VIP access. While I'm glad I didn't have to wait in the long line for this piece of crap, I'm beyond annoyed that it cost me almost $200 (after internet fees) to take four of us through this joke. I don't know what happened to this haunt, but DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. You want a great experience? Go to Statesville Haunted Prison. read more

This was my first time going to this, and it's actually quite a good deal, considering most haunted houses cost about the same amount and have only one attraction. Plus, there are carnival rides and food vendors outside, so there's actually stuff to do other than just the haunted house. You also get to enter all their attractions for one ticket price and get a free carnival ride. It was fun! The building inside does a good job of disorienting and blinding you, and I had fun being chased in the maze. The Christmas-themed room is wonderfully bizarre. Also the room with the little dead corn cobs. ...So weird! Also, people talk about Statesville Haunted Prison, but that attraction never changes. I have the thing memorized. My girlfriend and I have traveled around the country to visit haunted attractions of all varieties. Tonight, Reapers Realm accomplished what none of those could do: make us want to walk out and leave during the haunt. First off, we waited in line for a good while just to pay for the speed pass. Once in, after having the rules barked at us, we were shoved into a group that ended up colliding with every other group inside. Sets were badly strewn together and the actors super lazy, that is, when there were actors to actually be found - several rooms were totally empty. There was absolutely no seamlesness or purpose to anything here. Makeup was bad, one "Freddy" was particularly laughable. I found myself wondering a few minutes in when this waste of my time would mercifully come to an end. We eventually reached a clown themed room that took us to yet another line, strangely in the middle of the haunt itself...odd. We sat in here for several minutes, a couple of us glancing at the time on our phone to see if we'd ever get out of here. Eventually, one of their many annoying security guards showed up and dangerously walked across the railing over patrons and children to flash his light at us and yell "no phones!". Really, no phones where nothing is happening for God knows how long? So, we told him to kick us out and put an end to this garbage haunted house. He didn't believe us, but we insisted. Finally leaving this ripoff hellscape excuse for a haunt. I've heard that this place has been operating for 30 years or so. Well, it's time to pack it up and move on. $140 was wasted in our group for this. Don't do it. read more

I've been to several haunted attractions and I can say without prejudice, this one is the worst I've ever experienced. Each year I try for a new haunted attraction and this one was highly recommended. Now first off last year if you went to their website you would have seen that the cost for VIP admission which included every attraction as well as unlimited rides was just $40. That's what their website said last year I even checked it with my phone when I reached the ticket booth. When we made it to reapers realm we were told we had to pay $5 to park (which it didn't say anything about that on the website), just tell the people at the both you don't have cash and they'll let you slip right in.... I'm dead serious about this. Now when we got in we had to get cash out of the ATM, only 1 out of 3 ATM machines were working so we had to wait almost 30 minutes in a line to get cash. We got the exact amount we saw on their website for VIP tickets, and then when we arrived at the ticket booth there was a notice above the clerks that said VIP tickets $50... Every sign in the attraction said $40 for VIP tickets, even the website said $40 but just that one sign that was above the clerk said $50. Oh you better believe I got my tickets for $40 each. The wait was very long, even for VIP tickets, which is something to be expected I'm not complaining. Let me warn you beforehand that the first attraction (Reapers Mansion) is sadly the best of the worst. When we finally got in after an hour of waiting (btw my 6 year old niece was with us) we were all terribly disappointed. The actors did not play their roles well. It seemed like this was just a paycheck for them so scream a good boo and on the next scare. They were boring and I swear their makeup was done with a Fisher Price set. There were technical difficulties with the lighting and several of the rooms were unintentionally pitch black. Often times many of us in our group bumped our heads trying to get through corridors. You would think this would be scary but no, it was just an annoyance and painful. When we got out we were then lured to the Dark Zone, they gave us one flash light per group and warned us that it was dark so use the light (or force)...... I wasn't aware they had a sense of humor because the Dark Zone was a bright as day. We didn't even need the flashlight, didn't even use it once. This attraction was awful, it was just a copy of the Reapers Mansion but shorter and with the misleading title "Dark Zone". After you're done in the Dark Zone you can then go to Reapers Woods. It's just a corn field maze where a guy dressed as Jason chases you around with a chainsaw... At that point I was already done and ready to go. What a waste of money. Not even my 6 year old niece was scared. I won't ever go back to this place. read more

I've seen all the rooms-you guys have all the fun when you get to walk through it with all the actors in there-I dont see why it wouldn't be fun. This was my first year coming to Reaper's Realm and I had a pretty good experience. My favorite thing about this place was that it's what a haunted house should be--outdoors, in a creepy location, and decently scary without the use of tons of electric props.I bought a Groupon for 2 VIP tickets and I think I paid $30ish. It was really nice to skip the line because after only being open fro 30 minutes, this place was packed. We started with the Haunted Mansion, which got off to a slow and not very scary start. Overall there weren't a ton of actors, and a lot of the "scares" were exactly what you'd expect--high school aged kids just yelling in your face. However, I was more impressed that the Haunted Mansion offered floors that shift beneath you, tight spaces that forced you to duck down and squeeze through, and stairs and ramps to climb, whereas a lot of other houses just let you walk straight through. I also absolutely loved the slide! What an awesome thing to put in a haunted house. I would have never expected it. Other than that, the scares were mediocre, but the house was sort of low-budget and dirty in a "back-woods horror film" type way, and it gave off the feeling that any one of the actors could actually kill you, which was a neat atmosphere. We were in the house for a long time and I left not scared, but just creeped out, so it was pretty good. The Dark Zone was okay. I probably wouldn't have paid full price for it, but it came with our wristband deal. They give you flashlights so you actually get to participate in the house, not just pass through. The introduction in the beginning of the Dark Zone was completely unexpected, but very cool...so I won't spoil that for anyone. This house was much shorter, and not too scary, but still fun. The Woods was also okay, but not great. I loved the atmosphere--it was really well decorated and it felt like you were running through a backyard in a horror movie, especially when you get to the bloody sheets. It's not very scary, but it gives off the same "dirty, backwoods horror film" feel, which was fun. The carnival was fine--I didn't go on any rides because I don't trust those gross carnies, plus the rides looked like they might fall apart. I didn't like how the carnies were basically hitting on young girls, but this isn't really something Reaper's Realm can control. The concession stand wasn't very good. I ordered a hot chocolate for $2 and it came in a good sized cup with marshmallows, but it tasted like just hot water and not chocolate. Overall, I had a good time at Reaper's Realm. I would consider coming back if I got another Groupon deal, but I probably would not pay full price or wait in a line without a VIP pass. The location is super creepy, but I think the carnies were scarier than this entire haunted house. read more

I have been going here since 2010. It is honestly worth the $30 for all three attractions: The Mansion, the dark zone, and Reaper's Woods. Along with the three attractions you get to ride one ride. All of these attractions have great atmospheres and great actors. It takes about an hour for the mansion, 40 min for the woods and about 40 min for the dark zone. If you get the VIP, you get to skip the line which can take up to an hour and a half if you go late, but it goes fast if you have something to keep you busy(someone to talk to or a phone). If you get there early enough (7p.m.) you may only have to wait for up to 20 minutes at most. All together this place is affordable, fun and it changes every year! I'm looking forward to it this upcoming October! read more

The actor with the chainsaw ran it right up my legs, and the mechanism got a little close to my candy! The other complaint was that a male actor in the corn maze was talking on his cell phone. Of all the three haunted attractions - Mansion, Hell Hole and Woods, Mansion is the probably the one that I would pay to go. Hell Hole and Woods is just not worth your money. If you are looking to have fun with friends, this haunted house is 3-4 stars, but if you are looking to get scared, it is probably 2 stars at best. All the characters just give it away. read more

Good bang for your buck. $20 dollars gets you in the haunted mansion as well as Reapers Woods and a ride (their choice). I would only caution that some of the "scary" things were more disturbing then anything-such as the domestic violence and meth lab one. Probably not something to expose young children too. read more

Please note that all of the previous reviews were from 2009 or earlier. I've worked in haunted houses for almost a decade, and while I have to say the Haunted Mansion had great quality rooms and atmosphere, the actors were seriously sub-par. Many of them did not time their scares well, and used the bland, generic, "Raaah" as a scare tactic. Several of the actors didn't do anything at all and just sat there and stared at you. Several of them were also very unprofessional and one even walked out right through our group announcing, "Fuck this, I"m going to get water." So, like I said, the rooms were put together ok (even if the house had no theme and the sequence of rooms made no sense) but the actors were pretty bad. The haunted woods didn't have nearly enough actors, and the ones that were there barely did anything but stand there. Lastly, the Hellhole was more than disappointing. It took us only 2 minutes if that to get through. We saw 2 actors the entire time we were in there, and all the gluttony character said to us was, "Nah man, wrong way, this is the break room." Overall, I woulndn't was $25.00 for all 3 houses. If you are going to do any of them, do the mansion, and even that is questionable. read more

Long lines, very unorganized, lack of actors, & you won't find any scares here. So much potential, but they fail at achieving it. I'd recommend this as a first time haunted house, but if you are really into haunted houses then you will be very disappointed. I will say that some of the rooms/scenes are very cool, but with out any enthusiastic actors or any actors in general it turns out to be very bland. I'd also like to add that the line my group & I waited in was 2.5 hours & there was only one actor entertaining everyone. Do yourself a favor & avoid it. read more

I went here Oct 30, 2013...I went here after being greatly Disappointed at Statesville Haunted Prison...and let me tell you, I Had the BEST experience at Reapers Realm...The Actors were great and believable unlike Statesville...The actors were not just standing around at their leisure in the haunted house.. They were actually hiding to jump out and scare you or acting out a scene as you walked through the different rooms...The haunted house wasn't rushed UNLIKE Statesville...and you are able to go in the house with a small group or ONLY your group that you came with....UNLIKE STATESVILLE!!! And this Attraction has Carnival rides...and better attractions for a cheaper price...UNLIKE STATESVILLE!!! So MAKE SURE U VISIT REAPERS REALM if you want a TRUE SUSPENSEFUL, THRILLER EXPERIENCE!! My fiance and I paid $70 for us to go to all three attractions, Mansion, Hell Hole and the Haunted Woods. We also drove an hour from the Chicago burbs. NOT worth it at all. The actors were too young and didn't take it as seriously as they should have. We could see them standing there talking and we'd catch them off guard. The scare was lost. They let too many people in at once. Again losing the scare. The costumes and make up, terrible. You can tell that no effort was put into any of it. Not enough at least. The rooms were cool, creative but I found myself sauntering from room to room because it was far from scary. Too long between rooms. Hell Hole is crap. A lazer obstacle course and a mirror maze with people in it telling you where to go. Haunted Woods shouldn't even be there. There were two characters within it. Bad. Would never go again. It took less than 30 minutes to get through all three attractions. Save your money and your time. Go to Statesville. read more

Like zoinks Scooby we need to get out of here. Talk about a terrifying place. From the moment you walk in until well after you leave you feel as if something is around the corner waiting. The actors are top notch and creepy beyond belief. plenty of rooms and monsters to entertain you. House feels like it just keeps going and it's hard to keep tract of what floor you are on. This year (2016) is the best I have seen it in a few years. The fact that after the house you can get a bite of carnival food, play some games, or ride one of a few carnival favorite rides adds to the value. read more

This was the best haunted house of the year! Took my teenage daughter who had never been to one. Best time ever! We went after Halloween, the price was cheaper and well worth the money! The Haunted Mansion was incredible. Some of the rooms you had to crouch down, you couldn't tell which way to go because it was pitch black. Things hanging in front of you from the ceiling, people jumped out from all angles. Lots of characters in every room, very detailed, great makeup and costumes. One room was spinning, which made us dizzy, one was all mirrors, totally cool didn't know which way to go. Characters would follow you but never touched you. We went into the haunted woods, OMG! Pennywise was as real as the movie! Looked and sounded just like him! Chased my daughter around which made me laugh and cry! Further into the woods, we got lost in a fenced in maze and followed by Michael Meyers, my daughters worst nightmare! It took us quite a few minutes to find our way out, and when we did we ran into Jason and his chain saw! Good god! Ran from him so fast, made it out alive! Never had SO MANY scares and SO MANY laughs! Thank you to the entire staff and crew for making this a memory she and I will NEVER FORGET!!! read more
