So I called my physician (nurse) Rachael Martin (incredibly awesome at what she does and always positive - love her energy). I spoke with her assistant, Jen. Jen is also very helpful and great at her craft! Jen did exactly what she was supposed to do but the pharmacy still got it wrong....so I had to call the dr's office back. I was going on a hurry so I asked the lady (Dianne) if she could get in touch with Jen to work this out..::Dianne paged or called Jen - but Jen didn't answer because she was busy. So Dianne went out of her way to find Jen and tell her the ongoing issue. Then Jen proceeded to call the pharmacist. This isn't a one off experience...no - I've never had this exact same issue but the doctors, the receptionists, the nurses and assistants have always gone out of their way to help, smile, and just do whatever they could to help. I recommend this doctors office and specifically Rachael Martin and Jen! Awesome team.

Unfortunately, my most recent experience ended that relationship. During a recent visit with a PA (whom I was seeing for the first time), he relied on lab results that were over 15 months old to conclude that I needed to be placed on a statin and switched to a different blood pressure medication. What was particularly concerning was the complete lack of a measured, evidence-based approach. A reasonable starting point would have been: "Your last labs showed elevated cholesterol--let's order updated labs to see where things stand today and then discuss next steps." Instead, the conclusion was immediate: I should begin a statin. For context, I scheduled the appointment simply to refill my blood pressure medication and request updated labs to evaluate several health markers I've been actively working to improve over the past year. Without asking how my current medication was working, the PA stated he wanted to switch me off Losartan--apparently unaware that another physician in the same practice had already adjusted my medication two years ago with excellent results and zero side effects. When I pointed out that the lab data was outdated and that I preferred to obtain current labs before making medication changes--particularly starting a statin--I was subsequently dismissed as a patient. Not for nonpayment, not for disruptive behavior, but for questioning a recommendation and asking for updated clinical data. Professionalism: none. Bedside manner: unacceptable. A special acknowledgment goes to the "Practice Manager" for finalizing what was already set in motion. The approach to patient care, clinical judgment, and basic professionalism here is deeply lacking. There are far better providers in the area worthy of a patient's trust and investment.

My family have been patient's of Sommerville for over 10 years, including my mom who passed earlier…read morethis year. My wife, who rarely gets sick called today to see a Doctor regarding a rash and muscle ache and was told they could not see her until March (3 months from now)! The reason, she hasn't been seen by a practice doctor herself for 3 years. The office administrator claimed this was an insurance requirement, but when I checked with my provider and my insurance broker I was told this is done so the practice can use a different billing code that has a higher payout to the practice. It's a shame how this once "family" practice has evolved since Dr. Harrington's retirement, that they care more about being able to get a bit more money than actually caring for their patients.

Doctors Lorena and Kevin Harvey opened Physicians of Family Medicine over twenty years ago, at their Oxbridge office. I do not know the exact year, but I have been a very satisfied patient for over twenty years. I have been extremely happy with her husband (Dr. Kevin) as my primary care provider for most of those years. When he retired, I was worried about getting another primary care physician and tried his replacement, Dr. Marshall. I was not happy with him and was told I might like Dr. Lorena better. The office staff was correct and I have been very happy with Dr. Lorena Harvey. She has seen me through many rough times and I have a great respect for her. I have a hard time scheduling appointments around my work schedule and they are always willing to work around my schedule to be sure I get the great service I desire and need. She works out of their Cloverhill office located at 13861 Hull Street Road, Midlothian VA. 23112. It is not exactly on Hull Street Road so I do not know how they got this exact address, but it is across from Food Lion and Burger King just off of Hull street next to Outback Steakhouse. Also, a quick note that if she does not have an appointment available when you need one, there are a number of other doctors in the office that may be able to fir you in their schedules, and their Oxbridge office is open on Saturdays for walk-ins, no appointment necessary. Leaving us patients very little time to find replacement pcp's (doctors)and then a lot of us have to find pain doctors on top of this is outlandish. I knew it was going downhill when my doctor said he could no longer prescribe me my benzodiazepines or the company was going to fine him. That's really messed up. I had been on Xanax for years. It took me almost 4 months to find a psychiatrist to prescribe them for me. This company brought in very unknowledgeable PA's who didn't know how to do prior authorizations. As a former registered nurse I wouldn't take my animal to these people.
