Lovely library with great resources and facilities, especially for a smaller community like Midland. Very helpful staff, too.

I visited the downtown library for the first time in a few years. I think the county did a great…read morejob by filling this large building's space with books and other materials. The way the library had been used prior had quiet a bit of unused space. Now, all I see is shelves, and shelves and shelves of books, and other learning materials. I appreciate and enjoyed the little display cases showing off cameras and dolls, i.e. The only thing I wish that Midland County would have taken into consideration was that this building could have used a great deal of natural light and should have instructed the architect to provide tall and wide, shatter proof windows. If you read, you automatically realize the need for light. Natural light is always the best. Artificial light is a necessity for dark, stormy or winter days as well as night hours and we will never escape those scenarios, but the tall, wide shatter-proof windows would have been an absolute great thing to have.

Luckily, I was able to on a work trip since it was a very short walk there from my hotel. On the outside, it looks very large with beautiful decorations and paintings all around the building. When you walk in, it's a bit underwhelming. It feels like a stale business office. The book selection is actually pretty decent although I was disappointed in their oil and gas book selection given that Midland/Odessa is THE oil town of America. I would say the highlights of this library is that they have 2 gaming stations with games for PlayStation, Wii, Switch, and Xbox, and they have plenty of computers. I would recommend this library for residents of Midland but people visiting will probably find it underwhelming with its offerings.

The Barnes & Nobles Booksellers in Midland, TX was less than flattering…read more I'm not even knocking the fact that it is a single story B&N. On January 4, 2026, my daughters and I shopped here. Their calendar selection was extremely limited. The ones they had were a bit damaged--that is, bent up or partially opened or missing the cellophane wrapping. There were a few sections that needed repairing and or sprucing up. In saying that, the huge children's section was pretty great. The prices were a bit exorbitant compared to Amazon. I resisted buying copies of books I loved that I recently read through my local library. The restrooms were not open. Not sure why. Lastly, there was only one person checking folks out. I even overheard the staff at the resource center discussing this. Glad y'all have one, but there is immense room for improvement.

Okay so here's the thing:…read more Barns N Noble as a company and as a whole are AMAZING, i love Barnes N Noble so this review DOES NOT go for the company, but for the store In Midland, TX Now, the thing about this store is, it is peaceful, it has a great selection for it being a smaller Barnes N Noble but it's the people that work there. I always feel extremely uncomfortable going into this store because the workers are always talking under their selves then looking at people and it makes me wonder "oh man what if they are talking about me?" Sometimes when people will ask about a book they ALWAYS instantly say they don't have it and they will look it up and then continue to say they can order it but it will take a very long time, basically trying to get the person not to order the book. It seems very highschoolish or cliquey if you will. There is only one lady there who has a welcoming smile and expression but it seems like everyone else just wants you gone. It seems like if you come in there just to relax, maybe grab a cup of coffee and read a book or maybe go on your phone or even just walk around they don't consider you someone to even ask "Do you need any help?" I don't know, it's a very off vibe to me. One time I was standing and aisle away from my wife, they offered her help 3 times and literally just looked at me and walked off..... kind of.... Weird? I for the love of God wish I could remember one ladies name that works there cause she has always been so sweet and helpful everytime she sees me and always ask what I'm looking for, even if I just want to get away from the rest of the world. She's the best. All and all this is your run of the mil Barnes N Noble but if you want me to be honest some of the workers look like they should have a change in careers. One time there was a kid who like didn't even pick up one of the workers walkie talkies I think it was and it was laying in the ground and she yelled out super obnoxiously "CAN I HELP YOU SIR??" And the kid was so embarrassed and shook. Like, he's a teenager, it's not like he's stealing from the store. It's just a very off putting vibe in there occasionally but it's still a nice place to shop and relax and grab a cup of coffee unfortunately just not as often anymore since it seems like it's not welcoming occasionally.
