We do like a…read moregood steak but going to steak houses around the Square in Madison normally requires a lobbyists' expense account. With a reservation in hand on a week night we arrived to a a somewhat busy but not full restaurant. We were seated on the main floor where the bar is located. It is a classy environment. Our waitress was very good. We did not see their regular menu since they were only serving their $50/ person Restaurant Week menu (we did hear somewhat at an adjacent table question where the regular menu was...) We both started with a glass of wine and followed by a pretty small Caesar Salad - small but tasty. For our main we each got the petite filet which actually for us was a good size. It was perfectly done medium rare and very good as were the sides. Since it was our anniversary they gave us each a complimentary flute of sparkling wine which was a nice touch. We tried the tiramisu and the flourless chocolate cake for dessert both were very rich. The only complaint was that it felt a bit rushed - not sure why because they didn't need the seats because there were empty tables the whole time we were dining.

We came here as a group of 6 for work and were seated promptly. The service was excellent. Our…read morewaitress was super nice and friendly and gave recommendations on the menu. I didn't give it a 5 star coz I expected better for the food. Everything was a touch salty. The food was ok. I'm not a steak person so I ordered the lobster bisque soup and scallops for my entree. Soup was kinda salty but there were 3 chucks of lobster in there. We had the lobster mac and cheese and it was tasty but just ok. Coworker ordered the mushroom ravioli and she didn't finish it. Other coworker ordered a steak and was happy with it. Overall, its decent but food could be better.

Ishnala Supper Club, what a wild place…read more We left home at 4:00 PM, ate at 9:30 PM, and got home at 11:15. Yes, you read that correctly. We spent roughly 3 1/2-4 hours waiting -- and somehow, by the end of the night, it had become the accepted experience. We literally drank our way through all four bars while we waited. By the time we finally sat down, we had fully committed to that adventure. And honestly? Ishnala IS beautiful. The architecture and ambiance inside are genuinely spectacular. It has an old-school, tucked-away Wisconsin supper club magic that feels like an experience rather than just dinner. I've lived in the Manhattan and the Palm Beaches and I have waited for some pretty exceptional meals - but I have never waited 3-4 hours for dinner in my life. Would I say the food is on the level of the creative, innovative, technically impressive food I've had in those places? Absolutely not. There is no creativity, ingenuity, exotic ingredients, or culinary precision you might find at a high-end restaurant in the city. But here's the thing: every single bite was actually delicious. We had a surf-and-turf meal, and everything was genuinely satisfying. Nothing felt like a letdown after the wait. It was classic, rich, well-executed food in an absolutely gorgeous setting. So is Ishnala worth driving hours and waiting four hours for? I'm not sure I could answer that for everyone. But was it a funny, completely ridiculous, memorable Wisconsin experience that we'll be talking about for years? 100%. And honestly, sometimes that's what a great night out is about. Next time? I'd bring games. Pro tip- talk to the other people waiting and laugh about the ridiculousness of it all.

Our server, Csenge, was a superstar! So friendly, kind, and knowledgeable, in addition to appearing at just the right times to check in. For entrees we had the prime rib with lobster and asparagus, as well as horseradish encrusted new york strip with sweet potato bake. I highly enjoyed my prime rib and lobster, they were both delicious and a true treat. My husband had steak in front of him one minute and it seemed the next time I glanced over, it was gone. One thing he savored was the sweet potato bake; we've never seen that on a supper club menu to date and he insisted I try it as he loved it that much. As we were finishing our meal, the owner came over to our table to check in and inquire as to how we enjoyed the experience as well as our food. That's a very rare touch in today's day & age. When we were heading to our vehicle after dinner, my hubby said tonight's date night was one he'd always remember.
