I went for an oil change. I was told $69.99 for 5 quarts of oil. Was given a $20 coupon! Turns out I needed 7 quarts, And was told the cost was $129.00 and that's with the $20 discount! Had an alignment done 6,000 miles ago. Recently new Tires would not hold air. All 4 tires were brand new at alignment and all 4 wore on the inside to the point wires were showing in just 6000 miles. Poorly done to the point of negligence and endangerment. Avoid Midas in Wind Gap PA. read more

Was having trouble with my 4 wheel drive. Turned out to be my torque converter. I purchased one with the intent to install it myself. Spoke with Midas and they said they would install it for me. Very happy about that. However, it was installed incorrectly which damaged the part and set off a chain of events which caused my transfer case control module to blow. They refused to acknowledge that it was installed incorrectly even though it was quite obvious from looking at the damaged part. Had to take it to a GMC dealer to repair. They pointed out that the torque converter was installed incorrectly. Ended up costing me over $1400. to repair. Complained to Midas. Just wanted to be refunded for converter install and whatever else they would offer me to compensate me. They offered me only a free oil change. So, I brought the car in for an oil change and they shorted me 1 1/2 quarts of oil. On 2 prior oil changes they didn't tighten the oil filter enough and it began to leak. Fixed that myself. Same thing happened to my brother in-law and filter fell off. Don't know what has happened to that place. I once gave them a 5 star review and spoke highly of the place. Not anymore. read more

Before I begin, let me share that this Midas DIDNT EVEN TIGHTEN THE BOLTS ON MY WHEELS. I drove home and happened to check my lug nuts, they were so loose I could hand tighten them. I wish I would have called about it, my wheels could have fallen off while driving. I took my old BMW here for an inspection that I needed before heading to college. They told me one of my front struts was cracked and that I needed a new sway bar. Turns out, the sway bar was completely unnecessary as I asked my old mechanic his thoughts. I wonder if they lied about the cracked front strut as well. Don't go here, they will overcharge, lie about repairs, and will do the repair so poorly that you're wheels might fall off while driving. read more

Beware of high quotes! Last month I got a quote for a job that was supposed to cost $400, including a $250 part. I went online and the part only costs $104! I took it elsewhere and the mechanic bought the part at the fair price. I had some work done here a year ago on a control arm, and the part is already in need of replacement. DONT COME HERE!!!!!! I went in for a $40 state emissions and inspection, was told I needed a new muffler and new sway bar links for $400. I know my car, I do all the work. Links were average, muffler was fine! I should have known better, the last Midas I visited for an engine code readout brought out a rigged code reader and found I needed a whole new exhaust system! I took my car to Midas for inspection. They found several things that they said had to be fixed and gave me a price for the job. I took the car to a dealership for a second opinion. Not everything on the list needed to be repaired, and the price was about half of what Midas wanted. After the repairs were done, I took the car back to Midas for a re-inspection. They refused to pass it, stating that the part was still bad. I went back to the dealership and they inspected the car and passed it with no further work needed. If you take a vehicle there for repairs, you should get a second opinion. Needless to say, I won't be going back again. read more

I'd filed a review prior to this about an oil change where they told me I also needed expensive work that didn't need to be done, an engine mount replaced and that my oil pan was leaking. Neither turned out to be true, the work didn't need to be done. Prior to that, I'd had my water pump replaced here. Now I have another problem with their work. Whether incompetence or sabotage to get me to come back for more repairs, the clamp to the hose to the water pump was tightened so much that it broke the hose and caused a coolant leak. I ended up stranded on the side of 380 south for over 2 hours because of this. Either incompetence or intentional, I cannot see bringing my vehicle back to this shop ever again. This Midas has a terrible reputation in town. Everyone I mention them too says to stay away from them. Based on my experience, I have to agree. From now on I will be one of those telling others to stay away from this Midas. The prior people who ran this shop were great, did good work at reasonable prices. I kept going back to them because of this. Telling people they need work they don't and doing poor work, either incompetently or intentionally to get me to come back for more work is not the way to get repeat business or establish a good reputation so as to gain new business. Incompetence or intentional bad work/sabotage is a way to make sure you lose loyal customers like I was and keep new business down. I have been going to here for years. Never had a problem. Work was always done professionally. Had a replacement part they installed fail after a few miles, they replaced it for me free of charge. I went to this Midas because I had no other choice at the time. No other shop would take me in immediately for a badly needed alignment due to a control arm change I made on my BMW M5. The reviews here left me quite scared but as I stated I had no other choice. To my surprise the alignment was better than some of the big money alignments I had spent in the past from professional shops that set up cars like this. Total rip off!!! I live about a block away and I will not go to this place ever again!! They've always charged a little more but I paid for the convenience, but I've noticed several times that it's much more than charging a bit more. They quoted me $1600 to change my plugs and wires. I went to another place and got that plus gaskets done for $380. Quite a big difference. I went in for an inspection and they said I need 4 new tires. I hog new tires on the car about 3-4 months ago and I told them that so they said well then you also need a wheel alignment. I looked at my tires, they looked fine. Took my car to another place, say in the waiting room for about half an hour and the guy came out saying "your good to go" nothing needed. Midas is a rip off... Save yourself the headache and go else where. Very dishonest to the point that I think they should be shut down. read more

I have been going to this Midas since I got my first car at age 16. I trusted Cheryl and the guys to explain everything, keep me safe, and not up sell me on things I don't need. Now, almost 16 years later, the trust is gone and I have made the decision to NEVER come here again. I went there in August for my state inspection and they told me all 4 tires were shot and they needed to replace them. No money? Just apply for the Midas credit card! I went to Sam's Club and their tire experts gave me a much different story. One tire was in bad shape, another one was getting there, and the other two were ok. Flash forward to yesterday, and I went to see them (against my better judgement) for an oil change. All the sudden, an older mechanic (who wasn't even the guy working on my car), comes out and tells me my brakes are shot and I'm in danger. He quoted me $890 and, once again, suggested the Midas credit card. I declined, and then the new receptionist with the long curly blonde hair jumped right in and kept trying to up sell me on the brakes. I'm writing this review now in the waiting area of a different garage. They actually showed me the brake pads and explained that I'm in good shape, but will want to address my brakes around May, just to be safe. And the price? $200 less than Midas. Thanks for taking one of the honest, reputable car places in the area and turning it into a money machine that doesn't care about their clients and uses fear tactics to make a buck. read more

I got my tires from SimpleTire.com and tried to install four tires at Midas. There website shows it's 12 per tire but when I got there they say it's $25 per tire and total $100. I showed their website price and they said they have never head of it. Besides, they said I didn't ship my tires directly to their shop so it's more expensive. REALL???? I saw an offer for a $39.99 safety and emissions state inspection at this Midas so I figured I'd give it a try and ignore the reviews. Big mistake. I bought a used '07 Mustang in New York. It passed inspection there but I am a PA resident. As such, I needed a PA State Inspection. The mechanic who worked on my car informed me that my car wouldn't pass inspection because of the rear brake pads AND ROTORS! I was quoted $399.97 for the job, which I thought was ridiculously high. However, since I'm spending the summer in NY, it wouldn't have been easy to get back to PA in the near-time future. I reluctantly accepted my fate and had the job done. I took my old rotors and pads when I left so I could ask a local mechanic if the job was really necessary. To my dismay, I was informed that the job was absolutely unnecessary and that my car would have easily passed inspection. This means that I was charged 10x the price that I should have paid. Midas of Wind Gap took advantage of the fact that I am an 18 year old who doesn't know much about cars. They should be ashamed of themselves. read more

I've been going to Midas for over 20 years. I went in 3 years ago for an inspection and was told that I needed rotors, thankfully my husband was with me and said no, not for and inspection she doesn't. They told me it would cost $600 just for the rotors and I needed them right away. It now 3 years later and no one has told me that since. Needed a battery they wanted to charge me $400 for a battery, I checked and the dealer said bring it in we have yours under warranty, I told Midas no thank. They said well we've already taken yours out. I said well put it back in please. When I picked up my car, the electrical was all messed up and I had to have it serviced just to fi that problem they created. I guess they were pissed that I wouldn't buy their $400 battery when the dealer gave it to me for free and it was only $200 there. I went in because I was hearing noises 4/28 and they told me that it was my right passenger tire about to break off, and I needed four tires because its an all wheel drive car yet only the front tires were worn. I also asked for an oil change. I was charged twice for the oil change , 6 tire mount and balance and for almost 4 hours labor when I was only there less than 2 1/2 hours. I went in on 4/30 because I could still here there noise, yes the noise was still there. They rode with me and heard the sound that I was hearing. Fixed the problem finally. I was there for less than an hour and was charged for 2 hours of service. I called back and told them that they had over charged me and was told "that's the labor charge that the computer states that it will take. Some go over and some don't, and yours didn't." I was dumb founded. I asked as soon as I walked in, "where are all the old guys, everyone is new? That should have been my first clue. I've trusted this shop with all my vehicles over the years and now this is what you get with their service. I am calling tomorrow for answers and a refund. Let's see what I get then. But, never again, after over 20 years will I use Wind Gap Midas again. read more

For starters, it wasn't my choice to leave even one star. Also, I would like to extend my sympathies among the other reviews . This place is absolutely disgraceful. I am a new resident of the area and was kind of stuck relying on this establishment because it was familiar to me. I have Been there first for an oil change, which was reasonably priced, and not to my surprise, they did try to up sell me, and inform me of a ball joint that needed to be repaired, and to which I already had knowledge of. If you're curious about what they wanted to charge for two tires and a ball joint, it was $723, which everyone knows that's outrageous. To be realistic , Midas is only good for oil changes, tires, and maybe wheel alignments, not for major suspension work. I would assume that's common sense. Then I decided to go back a second time to to get the work done, but the only reason why I had to is because I would probably have to finance it, which they would provide a line of credit. The second estimate was worse than the first, they wanted to charge $800 for the ball joints on both sides, and another $700 for the tires, well I'm thinking to myself that this guy is literally on Crack rocks. I told him that just way overpriced , and refused, then he crumpled up the estimate and threw it on his own floor. Now mind you, this is the second time this same person has acted this way. I was literally amused by how immature he was acting. He also said " I should have known better than to waist my time". I then assumed that he had to have been the owner because really...who acts that way?? Then I made a comment to him on the way he was acting , and then he lunged at me. I'm thinking . .wow, this man has serious psychological issues, and this was supposedly the supervisor????lol..long story short, I called and reported this guy to the owner, and told him the story. The owner was more fixated on the cost, or whether or not he did the right thing, rather than maybe finding a new supervisor. I thought I was helping the owner out, but he was just as negligent. With a supervisor like that, it's either a law suit waiting to happen, or he's going to open his mouth to the wrong person. In conclusion, I highly recommend not coming here. Let me be the first to review this location. I was traveling through Pennsylvania and my nephews car broke down. I used my AAA to get a tow. That was my first time using triple AAA. good service from them. Well then the nightmare started. The car had a broken radiated. The tow company brought me to Midas an approved repair center. They told me the radiator would fix the car and I would be able to continue my trip. THE COST WAS $800.00 I said omg ok but your sure that will fix the problem and the car will run. Yes I was told. I was never told anything else- I never saw a work order or anything. When I went back to pick the car up I paid and then they told me there were other issues that need to be fixed but the car should make it to Lancaster. WELL LET ME TELL YOU THE CAR BROKE DOWN 5 miles down the road and it still sits there. Jason the manager said oh well there is nothing I can do for you. Can you imagine they do business like this. Have been going to Midas for a long time because it's convievent to our home. The other day we took our car into to get an oil change. They called and said the car need brakes and a sway bar and that the car was unsafe to be driving. They called my mother and told her and she said don't do it so Midas called my dad and tried convincing him to get everything done, he said no as well. Midas tried pinning them against each other. We took the car to get s second opinion and was told nothing was wrong with the car and it is perfectly safe to drive. We will never be going to Midas again. Warning! Stay far away from this place as they will happily rip you off if you don't know any better! My husband and I stopped in to see about having my brakes changed.. Pretty simple job that my husband can do himself, but since we don't have all those high speed air tools or the space readily available to do the job, we decided to give this local business a shot.. Imagine our shock when they quoted $750 to do the job! My husband found all the parts after a 2 min internet search for under $250.. They are trying to tell us it's "a big job," what a laugh.. With the right tools and experience this is a 1 hour job, maybe 2 hrs tops.. So that's justification for charging over $500 in labor?? And you know Midas pays less for the brakes/parts than we do when buying them ourselves.. Pshhhh! Save your time & money folks.. Go elsewhere, this place is a MAJOR rip off.. Midas you should be ashamed.. There is a definite pattern of over charging in all your reviews & now we can also attest to your one star reputation being one that is WELL EARNED! read more
