THE ONLY SHOP I GO TO You know I usually go to a "car-buddy" for repairs. But a few years back, he said "i don't have have the gear to do this job, but I went to ""car-school"" with my friend at Midas, you should go to him" And now 4 years later I still go here for most of my car repairs. It's easy for a shop to lie about what you need and take advantage of you, but I have 100% faith in these people at Midas on 117th. I must say, I love this Midas. Why, you might ask? Because I can get in and out, with a $20 oil change, which would have taken me 4 hours at the Toyota Dealership. The owner is Russian? and he's a loud friendly guy. He always sits down to talk to me, telling me about his family, about life, just...everything. I enjoy going into this Midas. The other individuals that are there are straight to the point- I get in and out without getting overcharged. And they're willing to talk to me straight. I hate going to car dealerships, them seeing that you're a girl thinking you don't know anything, and then giving you a list of "things suggested to get done." Oh puhleeze. This Midas? They tell you, straight to the point. Don't get me wrong. I'm not the typical girl- I know my car and I know where to get it serviced and how to haggle my way down to a decent price. I'm not one to get ripped off. However, I find that Midas in University Heights is simply stellar- they're willing to look at my car if I have an issue, and it's just...good price. In and out on a Saturday in 30 mins? Less than an hour for fixing my brakes? yes, please. Having a friendly owner tell you about life during those 30 mins? Yes please, yes indeed. Disclaimer: I chose not to leave my car, so don't know how they would have done. Called 2 weeks ago for appointment to put on snow tires, was told in a friendly and very professional way (by Kevin) - "easy - just call the day before". Which I did. Talked to Kevin again, asked if I could get a 1st appointment, when they open at 8am. He said - "no problem - see you then" So I arrived 7:45 this morning. A few cars parked (no people inside) around the perimeter, not another customer in sight, big mostly empty lot, so I pulled up near one of the 6 garage bay doors. Went in at 8am, was told to immediately move my car to the perimeter - now! I explained "I have an 8am appointment, thought this might be easier". Didn't matter - told to move the car now. So I did. Not a great first impression, but not that big a deal either. After parking, went in, explained about the 2 calls with Kevin. There was no appointment in their system. I asked if they could still do the work - he said "Yes, $29.99 + tax + shop fees". As I'd just gotten snow tires mounted on our other car AT A DEALERSHIP (almost always more expensive) for $29.99 per tire. + tax (no fees), I asked "What are the shop fees?". He said "I don't know." I waited, then asked, "No idea at all?". He said "No - the computer will have to give it to me later.". I said "Well, are the fees likely to be $5 or $100?" He said "Shouldn't be more than $30.00". (over 15 percent more than a dealership, and most of the competition.) That's when I said thanks anyway and left. I sat in the parking lot, made a couple of calls, and found a place within 5 minutes to do the work - for $29.99/tire + tax. No additional vague "shop fees". Friendly on the phone, friendly in person. Clear pricing. Good experience thus far. This may be a good shop, but kinda rude, and overpriced. And disorganized (I called twice to make an appointment which was never entered in their system.) I won't be going back. Buyer beware! read more

Had my car battery replaced here on 1/10/15 to the tune of $151 and I had to have it replaced today 2/15/15 at a different auto shop. The battery Midas sold me lasted just over a month, and required multiple jumps during the month I had it. Highway robbery!!! To make matters worse I tried to come by this evening (5:54pm to be exact) to get the money for my battery core and the place already had their closed sign up even though they should be open until 6:00pm. Will not recommend this shop to anyone. This shop promises "good deals" and the "lowest price in town" but deliver poor quality service. ****Update******: Was contacted by corporate, they said there was nothing they could do for me because I didn't go back to the store to have them replace the battery. I repeatedly told the corporate employee I didn't go back because I felt uncomfortable at the store (patronizing and unfriendly staff- which I feel was in part because I am a young woman) I also didn't want the dead battery replaced with the same inferior product. Even the corporate employee who I spoke with hadn't heard of the battery brand they installed- and he had previously worked at an autozone for 5 years! That speaks volumes!!! Corporate didn't seem to get it. Why would I want to go back to a store where I felt I was poorly treated, condescended to and sold a poor quality product? Why would I want my terrible quality battery replaced with the same terrible quality battery? Life is too busy (working and school full time) to have to ask neighbors/strangers/friends to jump me on a regular basis. When you buy a brand new battery to the tune of $151 dollars you expect it to work for longer than a month! Once again disappointed in service, part quality and customer understanding. Learn from my mistake- get your car serviced anywhere but here. read more

I noticed liquid under my car and took it into the nearest service shop, Midas, in University Heights, OH. They did a pressure test on the cooling system for leaks and told me I needed a new radiator. I have a written estimate for a new radiator at $994.32. I was shocked and believed my car may still be under warranty (it was) so I took it to my local dealership. They informed me and showed me that I had NO radiator leak and they believe I must've seen condensation from the A/C dripping. Either the guys at this Midas were trying to con me or they don't know what they're doing - either way, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. read more

I made an appointment 2 days prior to coming here. When I arrived, there wasn't anyone at the front desk. Finally, the manager came out after some time. There was a man in front of me asking to get his car fixed up, but the manager pretty much told the man that they can't help him because they don't have time and he didn't even give the poor guy an estimate as to when they're available to fix his car. Yikes! It was finally my turn, I told the manager that I was here for an oil change, and the first thing he did was sigh really loudly, as if he didn't want my service. Maybe he had a bad day? But personal frustration should never be taken out on customers, especially if you're working in the customer service field!! The oil change took about an hour, which isn't that bad. But I sure as heck will not be coming back again! read more

I have gone to this place twice only out of sheer convenience. I think this is one of the worst run car care shops I have ever been too. I went on Saturday to simply get the oil changed. There was only one other car in the garage when I got there. I was told 30 minutes- it took 2.5 hours. This is the second time this has happened - they never have enough supplies on hand( this time is was an oil filter for my car model). I had to wait while one was driven from another store. I find this ridiculous. I go to another Midas which is closer to my office and have NEVER, ever had a problem with them. I think this place should be closed out of sheer uselessness. read more

The staff here is great (not sure what other reviews were about). Came here for a simple oil change and tire rotation. The job was done in about 30 min and it has the best price in town. I will be coming back again. read more

This place is the worst, stay far far away! Having come back from out of the country to find that my tire had a small hole in it, I made a poor decision due to jetlag and decided to go to this Midas to get it fixed instead of going to the much better mechanic 2 streets down. I come in and they tell me it's going to take 10 minutes to fix. 10 minutes turned into 1 hour of me waiting there with no update. To their credit, yes, they fixed the hole in my tire, but they also broke the stem of my TPMS sensor, something they didn't own up to. Luckily, getting a new stem was a $3 part, but they made a point to make it seem like they were doing me a favor by not charging me to get it installed. Suffice to say, I did not go back there for their service. Instead, go to Washington Lee Service. It took them 10 minutes and I was out the door. read more

Shop manager Kevin Mc Lemore was a professional and correct in the diagnosis of my break pads and rotors. Kevin displayed in depth knowledge of the task at hand, and didn't try to over sell or use any pressure sales tactics during the explanation of the inspection. Staff was courteous and friendly. 5 1/2 hours to change my tires and check my breaks. 60 minute wait to accept my car, 4 1/2 hours to install the tires.

This place is HORRIBLE. Do not go here. I wish there was an option to give 0 stars. My husband went for an oil change and the guys refused to give him any service at all. They told him to get oil from the Family Dollar across the street because they wouldn't even sell him oil to do it himself. They then were watching him across the street laughing and now our car won't even start. This is actually the second time my husband has tried to go there and the first time they refused him service as well. These people should go out of business they are horrible. read more

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS. This place is nothing but a rip off. My muffler fell off February of 2015, and they "fixed" it for $464. Fast forward two and a half months later, and my muffler falls off again... fortunately for me it was covered by the 3 month warranty. So Midas fixes it for free, and I'm good to drive some more. Another two months later, and my muffler falls off again. This time, I'm not covered to have it put back on for free, my warranty is up (probably not a bad thing because they're clearly pretty bad at this kind of thing). I file a complaint on this University Heights store, and eventually get a call from them. I take it in, and they try to blame my car for it's constant problems with the muffler, but they ultimately end up "fixing it" for no charge. I've visited two other mechanics, one for my alternator and one for my ABS sensor, and they both agree that it is the worst muffler job they have ever seen. Today, October 19th of 2015 I had to take my car in for muffler issues yet again, this time it wasn't Midas. I will never be visiting Midas again, as they are overpriced and clearly have no idea what they are doing. On an unrelated note, the store manager, Kelvin, is also rude and unhelpful. read more

I just joined yelp and am browsing my fave local businesses and am surprised to see a bad review for our favorite car place! So I'd like to write a good one! Our cars are 12 and 14 years old and are on their last legs but Kelvin and the gang takes good care of us everytime we're in there. They get us out promptly and always figure out what's wrong and give us fair estimates. I'll keep coming back! read more

I waited for 2 and a half hours to get a muffler installed on my mini van. When I complained about the amount of time the, manager was argumentative, and said it wasn't long at all. Not friendly. I do not recommend this place. My bill was $355., which seemed excessive. read more

I've gone here a few times for oil changes with nothing to report (aside from somewhat unpleasant customer service). However, the last time I took my car here, they told me that my tires were severely underinflated. They put air in the tires to fix that. A month later, I took the car to another mechanic who said the tires were extremely overinflated! By twice the recommended pressure! This seems like a kind of ridiculous thing to get wrong, and I won't be taking my car back there. read more

They're OK when it's to their benefit. I have been going there for 3 years, in for every oil change. Very nice guys until today. Went in for tires in the middle of a lot of snow. I paid almost $600 for cheap tires, but hey it was snowing and I didn't want to skid around anywhere else. The tires were $370 they charged a lot more in shop fees and labor to change tires. So while they changed my tires they broke my TPMS sensor on my rim. I had to call them all day to find out what was going on. They told me they would pay to have it reprogrammed because the one they put on my car was not programmed already. They told me in their words twice they didn't know which one they broke. So I go in there with my receipt from my mechanic, which was only $40. They changed the story and said it wasn't the one that I fixed. I started explaining and debating the fact that he lied the guy Kevin says, "OK you wanna go there I'll go there." And proceeded to yell at me in front of all of the customers. I told him I didn't want to go anywhere buy having my money back. He yelled, "there will be no money!" I picked up my receipts gave him my comments and walked out because $40 is not worth arguing over. Midas, is $40 dollars worth losing a 3 year customer that is always more than nice to you that just paid almost $200 in labor to put on tires. No longer going there. Please avoid these guys. If I could give this place one star, I would. I was given the runaround for some repairs on my car, and finally got an employee to admit, in as many words, that they mark up the cost of their parts and charge more. I asked if it was possible to purchase parts elsewhere for them to install, and the employee told me it was, but it was determined on a case-by-case basis by the owner. I asked if I could check with the owner about the specific repairs I needed, so he called in the owner. I have NEVER been treated so poorly in my life. The owner didn't even make an attempt to ask me what my question was or what I needed. He came into the office yelling, and the first thing out of his mouth was "Did you go to college, or just high school? Would you just go into Burger King and bring your own hamburger?" He spent several minutes yelling at me, and when I told him his attitude was unwarranted and all I wanted was to ask a simple question, he got even angrier. I told him I wanted my keys back and I wanted to leave, and he wouldn't even call someone in to ring me up so I could go. He just kept screaming and I was forced to stand there and listen to him because they had my keys. After I asked him three or four times, he finally yelled out the window for an employee to come ring me out. Then he stood there through half of my transaction, berating and belittling me in front of other customers and the employees. When he finally went outside, the employee apologized profusely and told me the owner is always like that and he was sorry for the way I was treated. He said the owner treats all the employees like that too! I will NEVER give them my business again, and if I could give them zero stars I would. Don't go here if you expect to be treated like a human being. read more
