Had a brake light come on and wasn't sure how much we needed done. Some shops quoted me $800 for a full axel repair (rotors, pads and sensors), but Joey at Midas was honest with me. I got a phone call saying there was a accident in regards to my car I left with them for a tire rotation. My rim hit bringing it in. Pretty good smack and damage to my front rim. I was mad. However, when I got there they took full responsibility for the mistake. The manager let me know he was going to take care of it. The next day they sent the repair man to my job and bamm..Like New! They didnt even charge me for the alignment. Thats top notch service. I will keep coming back to a store with morals like this!!! read more

I am a out of towner and got a flat tire while on my way back home. Had my car towed to Midas because they were the only place open on a Saturday at around 4:30-5ish. I was told that they could not take care of my tire because 1. The technician who has the tools to break my wheel lock on my tire had gone home for the day. 2. Because of this I had to stay at a motel which would cost me over $400. They have a courier van that picks up customers but because they were closing they wouldn't take us to our motel which was maybe 2 miles away. Had to get a Lyft, $13 for that. 3. They charged me $130.00 to take my flat tire off and put the spare on! All because they had to use a "special" tool to break my wheel lock. Now that I am back in my hometown and at my tire shop that I go to all the time I was told that I was probably taken advantage of because they (my tire shop) could've done this for much, much less. Thanks Midas I now have only this bad memory to remind me of my birthday trip to Monterey! Just not going to be the same anymore. read more

noticed from looking though the other review that it's a common conclusion that we have felt ripped off and taken advantage of, especially being women who don't know very much about cars. The experience with this Midas was incredibly disheartening and discouraging. I would urge you to take your business anywhere else. I came to this location with a recommendation from the AAA driver after getting a flat tire. I was told that they needed to order a Michelin tire for my car and told they were doing me a huge favor because I wouldn't have to buy 4 new tires (obviously because my car has 8,000 miles and is very new). After getting a ride home and coming back the next day, I was charged $280 for the new tire and installment. I have come to find that this process could've easily only cost me $115 if I had gone anywhere else. The employees were nice, but this was all a facade to get me to trust them and not question the outrageous price. I have never dealt with anything like this before, but due to my naive outlook I was simply taken advantage of. I have since heard from numerous friends that they have had similar experiences. Very disappointed in a/c service here. Phoned in advance to make oil change apptmt with additional request to determine and fix a/c blowing warm air. Charged me $40 for inspection plus $40 for oil change, THEN told me a/c technicians not available and I would need to make another appointment and minimum $180 to fix. Oil change and inspection wait was 2 hours. When I asked why they didn't tell me this when I booked the apptmt they had no answer. I would have to return another day, hope the a/c technicians are available, and wait god-knows how many hours and how many dollars to get it done. Of course I cancelled any further work and booked instead at Masters auto repair. What a waste of time and money! I've been coming here off and on for the past four years and have been reasonably happy. I had an appointment today at 1 pm to get an oil change. I mentioned I didn't know what oil was usually used since it's my parents' car, and they don't live here. (I'm a 39 year old female; not a kid.) They looked up the car and said it recommended high mileage or synthetic oil. I said thanks but I'll take the regular. He said they could only do what was recommended. I was confused so clarified, "you're not going to the oil change unless it's high mileage or synthetic?!" He said that's correct. I said I'd get it done somewhere else or do it myself. I was on a trip to Monterey when my brakes were metal to metal with the rotors. They replaced all 4 brake pads and rotors. Their shuttle driver dropped/picked us up from the Monterey Bay Aquarium while my car was being worked on! However the brake warning light would not disappear after I came back home to San Jose. The reason being was that the front and rear brake sensors were not replaced - I was told I could get by without them. I called back and told them they needed to be replaced, they offered the install new front and rear sensors for free. I was really impressed with the customer service of Kelvin and shuttle driver Jim. Highly recommend these guys, great customer service! read more

They wanted to charge me $700 to change front brake pads, rotors, and a tire. I had a feeling that the car did not need rotors and decided to measure them myself with the help of a family member who has been a mechanic for over 40 years. They measured them at .960 we got .985 and .990 (well within manufacturing recommend specs). They also torqued the wheel nuts down so tight that we had to use a 4 foot pipe on the end of a wrench to losses them. They are only supposed to be torqued to 90lbs. These must have been like 200+ lbs. won't go back and I will tell everyone I know not to go back. The only reason I'm giving them 2 stars is because the courtesy shuttle drive was really nice. read more

I'd rather give zero stars to Seaside Midas, but, alas, I can't do that, here's my reasons for a grudging single star: A few months ago, I got towed into into Seaside Midas, with a flat tire that the AAA driver couldn't fix, as there were complications, with Toyota-Camry defective lug bolts that hindered changing tires. Problem was, those defective lug bolts needed to be replaced on all tires. I could have asked them to replace the bolts on just the wheel that had the flat, but, I grabbed the bait. Midas employee told me $6 per bolt. So I ordered replacement on all tires, 5 per tire, 20 bolts in all, for 4 tires. When the bill came, lo and behold, it was $16 per bolt, x 20, $320 instead of the $120 I thought I'd been quoted. $200 overcharge. Seemed like I'd been lied to. It's not the $200 overcharge, it's the principle of the thing. I paid an inappropriate extra $200, plus a lot of humiliation. When I complained, the lone employee there, and his supervisor, the only two folks there at the time, unfettered by any supervision, BOTH LAUGHED AT ME. Having been stuck, by that time, I succumbed to their little ripoff. They had the gall to ask if I'd want other additional services, like internal pressure-sensor battery modules, my response: NO THANK YOU, GLAD TO DRIVE OUTTA HERE. My wife and I used to be regular customers before that. NO MORE, NO WAY, THEY CAN GO LAUGH AT AND HUMILIATE SOMEONE ELSE. read more

While at an independent Mercedes shop, having ignition work done on my 1999 E320 that only they could do, I asked them to diagnose the rattle coming from underneath. They confirmed that it was the catalytic converters and that both sides should be replaced ASAP. The estimate was about the same as the car's Blue Book value. While looking for a less expensive solution, I visited a few shops that seemed more reasonable but I didn't bother going in because they weren't taking any COVID precautions that I could see and my parents are in their 90's. I looked at the Midas website, requested an appointment, dropped it off the next day, they told me they would inspect it, then call with an estimate, if I didn't want the work done I would only owe them for the inspection. Ended up replacing one catalytic converter, (Not a Genuine Mercedes Benz Part), parts and labor $400, sweet. And they picked me up when my car was ready. read more

Nope, never again. Went in for new brakes for my Landrover, they ordered the wrong brake size so I was over night without a car. I was quoted a very low and unrealistic price over the phone, and of course once I was at the shop it was triple the price quoted. When my car was finally ready, I asked why they didn't rotate the tires, they said because wires were showing and it would be illegal to rotate. ( by the way they also sell tires) There were no wires showing and I was so over them that I took my car to a tire shop down the street they said I had at least 10k miles left on the tires. These guys treated me like I was a stupid woman and and I would not recommend them to anyone. read more

The service at this Midas has gone down the hill, and they compromised my safety, didn't do my brakes right, and tried to say I needed new suspensions that would cost $1100, when in fact JG at Midas didn't do my brakes correctly and even drove my car after he did the front brakes and tried to say they were done, and I need the suspension done! I called the owner of Midas of Seaside and Salinas locations, left a message regarding this serious issue, he did return my call, trying resolve my issue, and I told Charlie, that I will never go back to the Seaside Midas ever again, so we agreed that I would bring my car to the Salinas Midas on Saturday May 4th, 2019. I brought my vehicle to the Salinas Midas, and Jeff was very nice, and Jesus test drove my vehicle, and reported that the car was pulsing when driven to a stop, so he also reported that I just had my oil change done, I told him that I didn't, so JG at Seaside Midas reset my gage, but there was no oil change performed. So all corrections were done at no charge to me. When I left the Salinas Midas the front brakes didn't pulse anymore, but I posted to YELP prematurely that the Salinas Midas was great, but infact Jesus resurfaced my back wheels and over tightend my back brakes causing serious scare, plus what ever JG did to my car has caused me a serious loss, I Uber/lyft, and have lost revenue do to not being able to work. I highly recommend that you research before going to either Midas. Charlie the owner is great, but he needs to consider getting the bad mechanics out of there. read more

Previously had a decent experience getting an oil change here, but when I returned for a repair I was faced with repeated problems and bad customer service. So let's start at the beginning. I called a day ahead of time to get a part replaced in my vehicle, was able to make an appointment for the next day, and the guy said that would be no problem. The next day, I show up for my appointment and am told by the man at the desk that they need to check first to make sure they have the part in stock for my car. Not only did they not have it, but they had to special order it and required me to pay for the part up front, and then told me to return the next day for a different appointment because that's when they will receive the part. Not a huge deal, but they should've checked the computer to see if they had the part the day before when I made the appointment. I'd like to say it gets better, but it doesnt. After leaving my car with them all day the next day, I am notified that when they tried to replace the part, after already taking the old part off, they couldnt get the new part to go on. It turns out they ordered the wrong part, and would need to special order another one, and keep my car overnight and the next day to repair it. Again, I try to be understanding, but at this point I am pretty upset to be going 2 full days without a car, which my husband and I share. Besides replacing a part on my vehicle, they were supposed to be diagnosing my broken heater. I received a call on the 2nd day that they needed more labor to look into the heater problem, and that this would cost me another $100+ to diagnose the issue. I agreed, desperate to get a diagnosis on it, and told them to go ahead with it. We were told the car was ready to be picked up, but my husband didnt have transportation to the shop, and I was at work. We were told that the courtesy shuttle would've been available for him at this time, but when he called and asked about it the man on the phone rudely told him "sorry we dont have a limo for you" and that there wasnt a shuttle available. After getting a ride with a friend, he picked up the car, paid, and took it home. Upon reviewing the receipt, they charged us over $100 worth of labor that I approved for the heater diagnosis, and yet there was no diagnosis in the paperwork or given verbally. When my husband called the next day, he was told that they never actually did that labor to diagnose it at all, so they had no information for us on the heater, but yet they charged us for it anyways. Scummy at worst, negligent at best. The manager he spoke to next was kind, apologized, and refunded the $100+ that they charged for work they didnt do. I would never recommend this place, and will never return. They dont know what they are doing. Sidenote, I went to Lavender Brothers next, not only did they have great, friendly customer service, but they only charged me $70 to diagnose my heater, diagnose another issue, and tighten all my belts. read more

I was experiencing some issues with my car not starting. Then I got it fixed by replacing my starter. But then the sucker stop starting again, then I brought it in, but the problem didn't duplicate when the techs did it? Go figure, so it actually happened like 4 to 5 more times, but this time id wait 5 min and the truck started up. However, this time it start at all, I got a little upset because I walked a few miles but let just say I got some good ol exercise in. So brought it back to the Midas shop, told the team and the just got to work. Hence I get it, the entire world is understaffed, thank you for listening and making it safer for me to be on the road with my 22 year old truck. Wow. Funny how the price for a diagnostic went up $110 from the time I made the appointment to the time I showed up for the appointment. Glad I didn't let them touch my car, because my regular mechanic was able to diagnose the problem for less than half the cost, turns out it was just a computer issue. That said, the customer service was polite and they did offer me a ride to where I was staying, however, that doesn't make up for the inconsistency in pricing from one employee to the other. Poor inter staff communication and poor customer communication. Avoid this place. They are not honest and just want $. In response to the owners comment: I'm not stupid I know that diagnostics cost money. That's why I inquired about the price when I made the appointment in person. What I don't understand or appreciate is that I was told when I made the appointment it would cost $30. And when I showed up to the appointment the cost was $140. And these inconsistent prices were both told to me without even looking at the car. So please don't insult me by telling me about how diagnostics work. I'm not interested in a private chat. Your dishonesty needs to be made public. And thank you for wasting my time, and trying to rip me off. This is specifically a review for Jim at Midas. Our car wouldn't start after arriving at a retreat in Big Sur, and we had to tow our truck to a repair shop. We were a little skeptical of sending the car to Midas since they're more known for regular maintenance, but Jim immediately built trust with us and coordinated the retrieval of our car from the tow company. After receiving it, he was very patient working with my parents (who had better phone service) to provide timely help and communication on a weekend. It ended up to be a key issue that was easily solved, we left with a simple diagnostic bill at a time where we could have been stranded in Monterey for a much longer time with a less forthright partner. read more

Kelvin was fantastic. We were on vacation in Monterrey and noticed our tire pressure was low. Kelvin quickly found the problem (originally thought it could've been a broken sensor, which would've costed over $130 to replace, but they discovered it was only the torn rubber around the valve stem, which then costed us only $20 or so to repair), and we were on our way in less than an hour. This was our first great experience with car repair: we've used Firestone numerous times for tires/lights issues with our Subaru, but each time we've found follow-up issues that costed us even more time and headache. My car just needed an oil change. So I went in to have the oil changed. I left a great review after because the manager or whoever the Mexican guy who helped me was named, he comped my oil change for free because of the shuttle delays/ issues that I had with them. I was and still am grateful however I should of took my car elsewhere. Less than a week later the oil light came on and told me to "add one liter or oil". This usually only happens when I need another oil change or just gets below. I took my car into another gentleman that my dad refereed and I was shocked at what he told me. He said my oil was leaking (shown marks all over my driveway form the leakage and down the street), that they did not change the oil, that the caps were all loose and some needed to even be replaced. That basically everything they did was nothing. I really trusted Midas and I'll never take my car their again. I mean I could of had or maybe still even have major mechanical problems from their lack and negligence of handling my vehicle on top of their horrible shuttle service. Go somewhere else. My first time getting serviced at this location and easily the worst experience I've ever had. I dropped off my car for an oil change and I came back when they called me and said it was ready. As soon as I get there, the first thing I notice is my car in the parking lot with the trunk wide open. I check and nothing is missing so no big deal. I get my car and drop it off at home with no problems. Next day as I'm leaving for a road trip, I get a notification that my tire pressure is low which confused me because that's also part of the service. I go to the gas station and check my tire pressure and I have 3 tires with below 20 PSI and one tire borderline flat at 5 PSI. I go and look at the inspection, and it claims all my tires were at 30 PSI before(which is complete bs because I just dropped my car off after 1 road trip and haven't filled my tires with air in the last month) and they claim to fill it to 32 PSI(which is what it's supposed to be at). The inspection also claims they refilled my washer fluid, but it's completely empty. I called completely upset that half this inspection was fabricated, and the guy on the phones solution? He offered me to come in for a free oil change when I just came in for an oil change the previous day. With no effort put into refilling fluids and putting air in the tires when it's supposed to be part of the service and lying about it on the inspection, I don't think I'll ever trust Midas with my car again. read more
