Let's be honest, there is a huge *clears throat* HUGE stigma about women and cars. I've been to countless dealers/rentals/mechanics in the DMV area and I'm either spoken down to or as if I don't understand that cars are driveable. Trying to find a shop in the area that is honest and gives me clear and honest information has proven hard. I ended up at this midas the first time on accident- when my car said the engine oil was low. The shop was able to get me in and out in less than an hour without an appointment. Since my first expierence with this Midas I have been back several times. Whenever I need an oil change they can fit me in. I've come and had my shocks looked at and down full diagnostics as well. In fact, right now I'm attempting to buy a new car and Midas told me to bring it by and they would look it over for me. I did and I was glad they explained everything to me. I continue coming back here because the shop is friendly and can almost always fit me in. I also get the same information that my boyfriend gets when they call him. Super accommodating! I made a last-minute appointment yesterday to get my oil changed. I had some things come up at work and called to ask if I could come in earlier and if there would be a long wait. The gentleman on the phone said they could take care of it sooner, there wouldnt be a long wait, so I brought my car in. I got there within 5 minutes, and I think they thought I was going to take a little bit longer to get there because I was told the employee was on his lunch break for another 20 minutes. The employee heard this from the back and said that he would take care of it right then so I didn't have to wait. Meaning he did my oil change when he could have been finishing his meal because he heard I was in a time crunch. He finished in about 20-25 minutes and I was on my way. I recently found out that the left front CV boot on my car was torn and slightly leaking thus a replacement was needed pretty quickly. Having had success at another auto service shop where I was able to bring my own parts and only pay for the labor/shop costs, I decided to see if Midas Rockville would let me do the same, luckily they did. After checking online, I determined that rather than cheaping out and just replacing the boot itself (~$20 in parts from Advanced Auto + 1.2 hr of labor so ~$140 for shop/labor), it would probably be better and easier to replace the entire CV axle (if I can find a good deal on the part, which I did for only $42 with tax from Advanced Auto Parts). Anyway, got in at 8am Monday, car was pulled into service bay within 10 minutes and was done ~35 minutes later and all for only a total of $160 (or $200 after including the costs of my own parts)! That was pretty amazing considering repairpal.com indicated that this service would have normally cost between $250-$600 (total had I brought it into a shop without my own parts) for my vehicle! I sure like not having to pay 'list price' for parts that a shop would get at wholesale pricing. Customer service was prompt, professional, respectful and courteous! No upsells, no gimmicks! I got a flat on Rockville Pike and pulled into Midas. They took care of replacing my 2 back tires within 24 hours. Very easy!

I went in for the $18.99 oil change coupon and was charged $30.50. The small print got me, yes the coupon said there MAY be other costs, but the $18.99 was what I expected and the manager should have clearly said.....the oil change is really $30.50, not $18.99. DO YOU UNDERSTAND? I would have left right away. Then he did not do the included tire rotation as stated on the coupon. I asked why and he basically said its because I did not need it because it was a front wheel drive car AND I have to request it first when getting the oil change. Are these guys doing this to ensure customers never in life go to Midas? So I paid 50% more, did not get all the coupon said I would get and was treated like a fool......bravo! Update on my last review of this Midas located on the Rockville Pike. I was overcharged for front strut assembly and stabilizer bar control link replacements. Following my initial review i was contacted by a Midas Quality Control individual. He wanted info so he could reference the work done on my vehicle. He got back to me after reviewing the work and stated he believed the work was provided at a fair price. . .surprise! I responded that i was disappointed as i checked several places and all supported that i was overcharged. First, the Toyota dealer (355) phone quote was approximately $400 to $500 less than Midas charged. Second, i researched online with and without the part numbers provided by Midas (invoice) and the highest quote online approximately $500 to $600 less than Midas charged. Lastly, i went online to Toyota FJ Cruiser Forum and supplied the invoice break down to experts, all that responded provided the same results as i've stated above including some interesting comments for the Midas shop. Following this the Midas Quality guy wanted me to provide him with an actual quote. That's right, now he wants me to spend my time obtaining a quote. I went online to "YourMechanic," and scheduled rear shock replacement. They provide online quote. Price breakdown and they let you provide your own parts. You lose the warranty they offer, but i rolled the dice. The mechanic, certified, comes to your home and provides the service in your garage or driveway. The rear shocks were replaced in my garage at $250 less than the Toyota (355) dealer quoted. I watched the entire process performed in under 2 hours. Here's the best part. I went on to "YourMechanic," for a quote to replace the front strut assembly and stabilizer bar control link and guess what, that's right, they beat Midas by $500 to $600 on the work they'll perform in my garage! Again, do your research. The internet has much info and access to individuals that are knowledgeable/expert in auto repairs. Shop around. Individuals make the difference, the last Midas manager was a straight shooter, great guy. I'll never use or recommend the Midas. Buyer beware. read more

I had a good experience here getting a basic oil change. Found a coupon online for an oil change + tire rotation for $25, which came out to about $27 with tax. The mechanics were friendly and reliable. I dropped off my car around 8:15am - they said it'd take about an hour - and sure enough my car was ready when I went back at 9:15am. These guys did an outstanding job. It get's a four for now because, you always have to see how a car place treats you after multiple visits. if they keep up the work, it will be a 5. In any case, Steve (who seems to be some sort of foreman) is honest, detailed, and personable. he gave me good service, and they did the work as expected. There was no arguing or attitude from the mechanics. And I think it's all the result of Steve's honest hard work. This is my second time here in the past two/three months. I have worked with Brad directly, the manager/owner on both occasions. Very pleasant to work with. Prices here are comparable to prices in the local area. They apply the website coupons without you having to present them. And parts not in the shop, can be ordered and delivered within mins. Due to my budget, I did my back brakes in July and my front brakes today also added on getting my front rotors done as well. Took a picture of my rotors to show my friend who replaces brakes and rotors but lives in another state to get his opinion prior to agreeing to the service and Brad was nice enough to ask if I needed a flashlight so I can get a better picture to send. They stand by their work and seem genuine. They don't try to upsale you here but rather give you the truth and let you decide how to proceed. There's no pressure to get any other service done. I was even asked if I wanted anything to drink while waiting and reading my book. Great customer service here. And my wait time was less than expected. Awesome Midas shop and service. read more

Went in to have tires installed. When they told me I had limited options due to my rim size, I asked if they'd be willing to let's me buy my own and just install them. After 3 days my tire was flat, and I had to fill the tire up and bring it back for inspection. The mechanic (with supposedly 15yrs experience) said there was nothing wrong. Within 30seconds of looking at it, I could see that air was leaking from the valve stem. They assured me that their mechanics (the same one who could spot what I did in 30seconds) didn't bump or ding the stem, but would gladly do the service for me to replace it. Do not go here if you are looking for anything done to to your car. It's not wonder they have 5 bays and only one mechanic working. read more

I had a bad experience here. I had made an appointment between 12-2 (that's how they book appointments - a 2-hour time range). I arrived around 12:45 but was told the manager was at lunch and to come back in about 30 minutes. Sigh - I DID have an appointment so that was frustrating. Then it took well over an hour when all I wanted was an oil change. The manager asked me for all of the same information I had already filled in on a form when I made my appointment. So, I have had some bad luck with cars and have horrible trust issues that go alongside it. Long story short- a dealership told me my old Jeep's engine blew, took it to a machinist who tore it apart and said nothing was wrong with my engine. When my dad threatened to sue (I was a 22 year old kid), they said they could tell me whatever they wanted and there was nothing we can do about it. So I have trust issues with mechanics . Anyway, last time I got my oil changed at my GMC's dealership, they told me I needed a new serpentine belt, one that I had replaced 30K miles prior (usually the part lasts between 50-100K miles). I took it to Midas for a second opinion and I did indeed need a new serpentine belt. My fault for being untrusting. But the part of my review that's important is that Wes was willing to SHOW me what was wrong with my car. Which means so much to a female dealing with car issues. The guys here are so nice and so helpful- and actually fast. I left my car and I had an oil change, the belt replaced, and shocks replaced and they called me by 12:00 and told me it was ready. Don't trust the Midas touch!!! A few years ago they forgot to put the lug nuts on my Jaguar after rotating the tires. My car hit the ground on Wisconsin ave. Though the car was repaired, (not 100%) they never reimbursed me funds I'd spent. Furthermore they avoided my law suit by having their agent not accept the notice front the court. Arrived for appointment at 0900, the front door was locked. The garge opens at 0730. Knocked on the main door and no one answered, walked around through main garage door, mechanic was playing solitaire, he directed me into main lobby, manager was in a back room behind the main desk, 15 feet from the from door I was just knocking on. Had a coupon for $19.99 oil change, I knew there would be tax and oil disposal fee, but they tacked on a $9.99 supply fee, when ask they said it was for towels or what they might need to use. Total was $36.73. Tried to sell me $55.00 worth of air filters, stating they were dirty, when I just replaced them several months ago my self. They did not even check the cabin one behind the glove box, but told me it was dirty. I watched my oil change through the shop window. They failed to rotate my tires, despite the coupon stating it was part of the deal. I mentioned this to the manager, and he stated they only rotate them if they need rotating, I told him they did. The mechanic then relifted the car and rotated the tires. I was there for 1hr and 15 minutes for a basic oil change. There was no other car being worked on during my stay. I don't know why it took so long, the car sat on the lift for 45 minutes "draining oil". Did not receive a car checklist of what was checked during the service. I know I nee new rear brake pads and rotators.It was supposedly inspected today during my oil change, but no mention of them being worn and needing replaced was even brought up. Nobody wakes up thinking, "woo-hoo! I get to go to the mechanic today!" At least not for me. I know it is important to get scheduled work done, and I know it is inevitable once high impact parts start to wear and tear. Just like going to the Doctor or Dentist, a car mechanic is just as important. I am new to the area, so finding a reliable/honest mechanic is anxiety producing. I have used Midas before and wasn't very impressed. I had my trusted mechanic down in Northern Virginia, but driving from Rockville to Reston with a sick car was out of the question. My first experience with the Rockville location was when my car battery died. Brad helped me out and tested my starter/alternator at no cost--it was just a dead battery. I decided to bring my car back to get basic routine maintenance, and a "pre-inspection" before my big Maryland state inspection. I ended up needing new brake pads and rotors ( I knew this beforehand and did the 495/270 commute for 4 years on a 10 year old car--it was time; however, I was encouraged to take my time to call around and also ask for personal recommendations to complete the job). The guys visually inspected my car for other things the Inspection station would do and wrote down things to take a gamble on. I feel this location is honest in their practice.I didn't feel pressured into thinking if I don't replace a part I would die (I'm looking at you large automotive franchises around town ). I feel like I got a fair deal with parts and labor. Anything cheaper would be done by a family member or close friend and buying the parts myself. Although Midas is a franchise, this location feels more like a neighborhood mechanic. I hope not to be back in a long time lol. read more

Well my car's "check engine" light comes on the same day and I was pleasantly surprised how Wes Brown took the time to show me my options and explain how I could be back on the road without breaking the bank. The manager behind the desk was surly and rude. They said an oil change and tire rotation would take an hour and ended up taking over two. When I finally picked up my car I noticed they hadn't rotated the tires despite the special including it and specifically asking for it when making the appointment and when dropping the car off. When confronted, the manager was rude and unapologetic. They took it back in to rotate them and when I picked it up they hadn't rotated them all (I had marked the tires). They lied and said they had, but changed their story when I told them the tires were marked. I will never come back to this location. read more

This place has such high reviews! Why? I'll tell you why. Because they are very, very friendly. Seriously, they are sooooo friendly. However, they will rip you off even as they become your best friend. So, two stars from me. If you're going here for something simple--an oil change, a headlight, a tire rotation, whatever--you should be fine. They are very quick, and have I mentioned how friendly they are? For those kinds of low-cost, flat-rate services, you're A-OK here. However, when I had a more complicated brake problem, they pretty much stole my money. They were very nice about it, though! Honestly, they are so friendly that it became a problem, as I wanted to trust them. They gave me a whole list of what was wrong, acted like they were doing me a big favor by getting the price below $1000, and proceeded to do the work. The only problem is, the work they did only temporarily fixed the problem! I was back to square one with my brakes a week later, and when I took it back, they wanted to do MORE work for hundreds MORE dollars. Uh, no thanks. I've played that game before. I was told that I overpaid by other places; I was told that the work they did really did not need to be done. Granted, my brake problem turned out to be a mystery to many mechanics (I ended up getting a new car, so I don't know what the problem was to this day). However, the other mechanics were honest about that, whereas this place really acted as if they knew what was up even after their work turned out to be insufficient. I really don't know if they are incompetent or just lying, but either way, I won't be back here for anything more than a broken headlight or the experience of someone genuinely asking "How are you doing today?" and listening to your answer. I witnessed a VERY rude customer fighting over a $20 charge to reset sensors and both the manager and staff assisting her were incredible patient and professional. I have been to this shop several times. They are usually very good when you know whats wrong with your car and routine stuff like oil changes/ tire rotation/ brake pads. The best part is they are only among a few shops in this area to accept your own parts which is my reason for giving positive reviews. They also give free estimates. The labor rates are fair in context of this area though not particularly cheap. My only negative experience was when I once took my car for a check engine light problem. They told me my catalytic converter was off but later I found out myself the plastic hose coming out from air filter chamber was disconnected. The check engine light was back off after I reconnected the hose. May be the mechanic didn't bother to check under the hood and based his opinion on just the computer system. I am going to be more positive after future experience. read more

I walked into Midas with no appointment to diagnose a check engine light I had on in my car. At first I spoke with the technician, Carlos, who was very friendly and knowledgeable about what issues I was having with my Buick. He was very in depth and asked many questions to find out what exactly was causing my engine light to come on. Within a half an hour I had a diagnosis and was given some price points and options from Jason who worked behind the counter. Jason worked with me to bring down the price to help make my repair as affordable as possible. The work itself took about an hour. While I waited, the manager, Issac, suggested I go across the street to the Millers Ale House for a cold one and some food. Great suggestion. After I came back my car was ready and all three were very thankful for my business and very complimentary of my car. I will absolutely use their services again. read more

Was quoted $1,300 for a tune up. My car had a tune up approximately 15,000 miles prior and obviously didn't need one. When I told them this, he says he has to check with his mechanic about the problem. They come back and say I need new spark plugs and wires for a price of $600. Why didn't they say that in the first place? First of all $600 is way too expensive for spark plugs and second I figured out it was just a little moisture in the gas tank from the change in temperatures. $2 for a bottle of dry gas and car was running great! read more

I had a mystery vibration in my left tire for 3 months, esp at highway speeds. After goggling & asking peeps what it could be, I decided to get an alignment & balance done to my car. Self diagnosing failed me. It's better to hear it from an expert. Those were not my problems! They found that my tires needed replacement and that my left axel was about to fall off any second (ok, those are my words). Brad made sure my car ran like a spanking new car that was fresh off the lot. I will never have to find another mechanic again because they will be my auto repair place forever. Beware!!! If they made some tweaks and trained their personnel, they may be able to improve. At this time, however, I strongly advise against receiving service from this location. A bit over two years ago, I had my car serviced at this location. My back brakes were worn on one side...the left side, and as a result, I needed to have my rotors and brakes changed. Fast forward to a few days ago, I returned to Midas believing I would now need my front brakes serviced and being this is the closest location to my office, it would be fairly painless. To my shock, however, my back brakes were again worn on the left side and needed a new rotor and pads for the second time in a little over two years. The damage was even worst this time, with the left side of my brakes being completely worn, while the right side was practically brand new. It wasn't until after asking what may have caused the brakes to wear unevenly, that I was told I would also need a new caliper (so had I not inquired, they would have replaced my rotors and pads again without addressing the actual issue). It was at this time and not knowing much about brakes, I started to wonder if this was the issue the last time. I asked the representative about the service I received over two years ago, and he started some spiel about brakes being wearable parts and two years being about the accurate amount of time to need to have them serviced again, which seemed like hogwash to me. If it was an issue of the brakes wearing down, I wouldn't be experiencing the same issue two years later with uneven wear on my brakes. Believing that they did not do a good job addressing the issue the first time, I decided to go somewhere else with my service. It was at this other location, I discovered, I did not need a new caliper. After conducting testing on my current caliper, I was informed that it was working just fine. What was causing the brakes to wear unevenly was a stuck slide pin (and I strongly believe this was the issue before as well). Had I decided to trust this location, I would have been out an additional $400 dollars and would have a new caliper installed that I didn't need. In essence, and because I strongly believe this issue was not addressed two years ago, this location cost me an additional $300+ to fix something they should have fixed initially. I strongly suggest additional training for your staff. read more

When another tire store charged me $60 just to inspect my brakes I kicked myself when Midas does it for free. They went on to tell me some of the services offered at the other place was unnecessary saving me a ridiculous amount of money. Originally took my Infiniti to the dealer for an oil change and brake service. The price they quoted was way more than I wanted to spend on servicing a 10 year old car. Decided to call this Midas location because it's close to my house. Brad was very helpful and gave me a quote over the phone. When I arrived, Steve got me checked in with no problems and they were ready to start the service. In less than 2 hours they replaced my rotors and brake pads and did a brake fluid flush. I really appreciate them for getting my car in and out and for saving me over $300. I would definitely visit this location again. read more
