Went to have 1 tire replaced due to sidewall damage. This was 3 days after it passed inspection at the same shop. roadside assistance said it was his opinion it was due to sidewall rot. They did notate on inspection lugs were swollen. I was happy it passed inspection. Store owner quoted me $361 in parts only for 20 lugs. Ford MSRP from official Ford parts catalog is $10 each lug, so $200 retail. That's an 80% markup! Over the phone he said the markup was extra than what their computer software said for pricing because he had to resell the extras. They are standard Ford OEM , m12 x1.5. you can get a box of 20 or packs or individual lugs, what is their to keep in inventory and resell? this isn't pawn stars. the lugs fit dozens of year, models. I understand they have vendors and markup, but more than dealership! , charging that much , 80% markup is unethical for simple lug nuts I provided Chris, the store owner, with proof on cost, and simple math. the next day in person he said he never quoted that, but it's in writing and voice recorded. At pickup, He then dismissed my concerns, saying he is a capatilist, im basically SOL, and he was hostile and Chris has no customer service skills. he ended the conversation before I could finish what I was saying, and told me to leave when I asked to meet in the middle on a discount because 80% markup over dealership is JUST WRONG The previous commenter is right, things have changed there..I have been a loyal customer to this shop for a decade. Chris was not store franchise owner last time I was there a year ago, and I hope he is not there in another year. He is rude, exploitive, no customer service skills, lies, and tries to exploit customers Needless to say, Midas lost a loyal customer of over a decade. So many same kind of reviews, the new store owner tried to rip me off, and when confronted didn't want to talk and walked away. Other midas locations may be trust worthy, but they are all franchises, and the one at 5301 West broad, Richmond va should be avoided untill a new owner comes in. I don't think Chris will be store owner with all his bad reviews and shady practices. They are still answerable to Midas corporate and the BBB, which I will be filling complaints against this shop. read more

Came here today to get my catalytic converter painted as a theft deterrent, which is a program Midas provides in conjunction with the Henrico Police. Hard to beat "free", so I was glad to make an appointment with this location to get the spray taken care of. Their lot is tiny, so parking was a bit of a hassle. The service was on the quiet side, but professional. A manager was talking loudly on the phone nearby throughout my interaction with the employee, which was a bit off-putting but no real way to avoid that with such a small cashier area and waiting room. They took about 30 minutes to handle the painting, which is pretty quick. I inspected it after the fact and they were pretty liberal with the spray but, as their manager explained to me, it's hard to control the trajectory of an aerosol paint sprayer. I should mention that I received a call from Midas the day after I posted this review to ask about my experience. This is an impressive sign of good customer service that I do not often see, so good for them for doing all they can to ensure positive outcomes for their customers. I strongly recommend everyone also get this spraying done now that crime is off the charts, and Midas is a solid choice for this and other services as well. Overall: 4.0 stars ---- Pros: - Great program they're doing with Henrico for the catalytic converter painting. - Service was professional, if quiet. - Prices for their services seem fair. Went in for an oil change. Like every other auto shop they wanted to change my air filter. I told them I usually do it myself. Noticed a shaking noise that wasn't there before as I was leaving. They said, "Well a bunch of leaves fell down when we looked at your cabin air filter." They proceeded to show me where the leaves were and kindly left them in the cabin air filter. My car was driving just fine before I took it to Midas for an oil change. Immediately after the oil change, my car would not shift, it stalled. I took it back to their shop. They said they can't do anything to fix it and they "didn't break it". Blatant lie. I am in contact with Better Business Bureau. Do NOT TAKE YOUR CAR HERE. Thanks for wasting my entire day. Called and talked to someone yesterday, agreed to bring my car in at 830 am. I bring it in at 830 am, act like they have no idea what I am talking about. Said they can "fit me in"(remember, I called and scheduled a time yesterday) and will call me when ready. Still had not heard from anyone by 4 pm so I WALK (2nd trip on foot) . They come to the counter and were actually going to charge me, and then they realized they had not done anything. Tell me my car is next, come back at 5. I kill time by walking around for an hour. Come back at 5, they ask me if I am ready to reschedule???!!! I would not have you people work on my car now if it was free. If you cant correctly schedule an appointment and then forget about my car 2x, do you think I would actually trust you to work on or be in possession of my vehicle? I kind of wonder what would've happened if I had not made the initiative to see what was happening. Would you have just closed with my car there? I am a patient person, very local to your location. Midas ripped me off. Last year I went to midas in Colonial Heights, va to get a inpection in June. The failed me on my inspection saying my shock and struts were bad and cv axle. The cv axle was going bad but I learned it is not deserve a failed inspection. Also they wanted to charge me $2300 to fix these things. So I recently went ahead and did my struts at a much lower cost than they quoted me and the guy who did it said the shocks and struts were perfectly fine and I did not need to replace them. They were not leaking like midas told me. they were perfectly fine. I hate it when these inspection business try to rip people off for unnecessary repairs. Also a leaking shock is not deserve a rejection. This cost me alot of money but still less than the $2300 read more

Reeks of testosterone. I've been taking my vehicle here for over a year now. Unfortunately, the front desk male staff are smug and lack overall customer service. They never take the time to actually explain what's wrong with my vehicle. They say a few words and tell me an extremely high price. I asked questions and the responses are glib and condescending. The one time things were broken down, I had to bring a man in to accompany me. My last visit, I was given a dirty rental car with trash and leaves inside. I was rushed out of the door when I had questions about payment, to which the salesman responded "I'll text you the info, but we're about to close so you can do that on your own time." This will definitely be my last visit. They are the reason people dread taking their vehicles to get serviced. read more

Took my car for diagnostic evaluation. Cost me $180, after a week and a few calls from me, I was told I needed a $10,000 transmission. I am not a mechanic, but this didn't sound right to me. Went to another garage for a second opinion. Turns out all I needed was a tune-up. Car runs better than it has in years and at a fraction of what Midas wanted to charge. Also it is the wrong diagnosis. They did nothing for the $180 I was charged and had my car for a week. When I got the car back it also stunk like cigarette smoke. I'll never use them again. I am very disappointed in the latest service and estimate from Midas at 5301 West Broad Street in Richmond. I switched to Midas hoping I could finally trust a car care center, but that did not work out. I was told that my wife's car needed about $1500 worth of repairs. We took it to two different shops and had two different mechanics check it out and we did not require the repairs Midas said we needed. The customer service was poop. I'd forgive that, if the service we needed was quick. But it was not quick, it was slow, and the customer service was terrible. But, you know what, I could be ok with all of that if the service was good. but, it was not. We picked our car up after waiting for 3 hours for an oil change, and then, we got three blocks away from the store when we realized, THEY DIDN'T PUT THE CAR BACK TOGETHER. Seriously, we heard a dragging sound about 3 blocks out, so we turned around and, it turns out, they didn't put the car back together after the service. We had to drive back (with part of the car dragging on the ground) and ask nicely if they'd put the car back together for us. Which, they did. Not quickly, and without an apology, but they did put the car back together, eventually. Go to Midas, it's a good company, just not this Midas, cause they don't put your car back together, which seems like, you know, a realistic expectation. read more

If there was a zero star, this would be a case for it. If you have ever taken your car to the Midas on West Broad st, in Richmond and your car was vandalized and Midas ask that your insurance pay for it, please give me a call at 804.497.6222. My stepson's car catalytic converter was stolen while it was being serviced at the Midas location on West Broad St. He was informed that it was Midas policy not to repair or replace any damages that was done while the car was in their care. He was further advised to contact his insurance agency and have them pay for the damages. I personally called the shop three times and was told the same thing: they will not fix the damaged done while the car was in their possession because its not their fault and it was against Midas policy. I reached out to Brad the district manager and was told that I was foolish to think that they will pay for any damages because if I had left my car at the airport and it got damaged I would not expect the airport to pay for the damages done to the car. He also called my stepson and said Midas will fix it for $1,600 and a small labor discount and that is his best offer. When I informed Brad, that we were talking to corporate he told us it was a waste of time because he is the person they appoint to resolve the issue. And that was his best offer. So now my stepson has no vehicle to commute to work. and no resolution in sight. The whole thing seems and smell fishy to me! I would not recommend this place to anyone and I would warn people to stay away from Midas. I have never had a good experience with this establishment. Now I will have to pay for towing and legal fees to sue this Company. Never heard of a business that has custody of your asset and don't expect to pay or fixed the damages that occurred. read more

They claimed the battery was dead because something was probably left on while they were working on it, in result I'm going to be late for work while they attempt to jump start and charge my car! Where do I begin.. went to get an oil change done. Was told a 2-4 hour wait. Ok fine. Made an appointment for two days later. Was quoted a price and left happy. Come back for my appointment, again another hour wait before they could take it back. Alright. I needed it done so I just had to wait it out. They finally come to get my car an hour and a half later. Mechanic is now pissed off because my horn doesn't work and he sat outside waiting for someone to open the garage bay. Sorry. *I mentioned it* has an attitude every time he walked in, tossing things, just pretty much ugh. They lift it up. Cool. (Now everything has been rebuilt, new everything under the hood, no leaks, no issues, nothing, this thing runs a1.) (also should mention I just got an inspection a month before) The girl comes and says he found some issues and this is what we see needs to be done; all tires need to be balanced and rotated, obviously your horn, windshield wipers and blades need to be replaced, you have a badly cracked manifold, need a complete tune up, and a few other minor things. Y (Blades were brand new, didn't have exhaust manifold issues, tires were great and just rotated the month before, brand new spark plugs and wires) I politely decline and just want the oil changed. I requested 10w 30. I got 5w 30. I drive off and notice oil gauge is a little off. I just go home. Next day I notice oil on the ground. Hmmm. I head out. Jump on 76. Pick up speed to 45 notice a little shake in the wheel. Get to 55 and this thing is really shaking. Go to pepboys on my way to work. They take it back and have it lifted in 5 minutes. They do their inspection and half way through call me to come look under. Oil filter is not tightened or fitting right. Oil is leaking out. (No cracked manifold) but now I need balancing since my weight is gone o_O. So I paid $60 for bs oil, bs oil filter, tried to get taken advantage of, and lied to my face to sell more bs. Had to pay for more oil, another filter, a tire balance and labor. Midas was a complete waste of my time and money and I'm pretty sure disgruntled mechanic man had a part to play in it. This place is trash!!!!! Lied to me about a quote and were rude from the beginning. I spoke with the owner and she was rude as well, and told me it was my fault for asking for a blind quote, after her technician blatantly lied about labor rates. She also switched over to another call in the middle of me talking and laughed at my issue and said it was unreasonable for me want to pay the original quote. No modifications were done, he simply lied about the labor rate and they refuse to take accountability for it after he assured me that was the amount i would need to pay. Showed up for a scheduled inspection on my vehicle and got all the way to the end to tell me they couldn't inspect my brakes because my wheel lock was missing (the same wheel lock I keep in my glove compartment and don't ever move or use) Unfortunately they "were not stocked" with a wheel lock that fit my wheel, however RPM saved the day and had one. read more

Midas is a car repair shop that treats you like human being. They tell you what the problem is with your car without beating around the bush, and will even take you out to your car while it is on the lift to show you what the problem is. They are honest and upfront. They often run deals to get a free oil change with purchase of another, and they also do a food drive for the Virginia Food Bank during the holiday season to give back to the community. Midas is franchised, so if you are at a different Midas and need warranteed work done, it can be a challenge. I had a brand new tire go flat on me less than a week from when I bought it, while on my way out of town the weekend before Christmas. I called them from Charlotte, NC (my destination), and after some dealings back and forth, I was able to take my car to a Firestone in Charlotte that they had a partnership with, who replaced two tires on my car, free of charge - not even charging me for labor. You really can't ask for any better service than that. read more

I'm a big fan of this Midas, I have always been treated kindly and honestly here. I like that they take you out into the garage while your car is up on the lift and actually point out the different things they've found and what they're doing. Up until recently I drove an older car that was starting to have alot of problems. I went in last summer and told them that I wasn't sure it was worth fixing it up to pass inspection and could they just give me an idea of what it would cost. They spent two hours going over my car thoroughly and gave me a detailed list of what was wrong so I could think it over - and they didn't charge me penny. Because they're a franchise their prices are going to be a little higher than an independently owned garage. Personally I would rather pay a little more and feel comfortable knowing they're not going to try and rip me off. read more

I appreciate that they do the food drive program and their two for one oil change deal works well for us. But they forgot to change it. A few months later I realized I did not have the spare tire and I went back. I called a little after 9AM to get my vehicle in for a state inspection. Kevin was able to get me an appointment at 11AM. When I arrived I was asked if I was going to wait or if I was leaving. I told them I intended to have lunch nearby and was hoping to be able to pick up my vehicle after I finished eating. I received a text at 11:50 informing me that my truck was ready. The text included a link to a webpage that had a description of the inspection. The staff was friendly, prompt, and courteous; I was pleased with the level of service and ease of transaction with a short notice request. I have to give 5 star and here is the reason. I took my car for 12 month inspection 2000 crown Victoria. Midas said we need to replace ball joint and other stuff. I agree to the findings and have it fix. The last thing they added at end a tire rotation. After it was finished I went home and realized passenger side hubcap were gone. I called Kevin and told him what happened. Kevin took the action and a couple weeks later he called me and said my hubcap replacement has arrived and I can pick it up. The service was outstanding. I highly recommend to anyone who need a car fix to see Midas West Broad. Thank you Kevin and Midas for that service! You guys rock! read more

I was very hesitant when I moved to this area from my hometown in NY. I had a trusted mechanic who I I always went to, I was nervous that I wasn't going to find someone as trustworthy in RVA. I originally went to Toyota, and was completely overcharged. I was happy when I found Midas, and this location in particular. The two people I have interacted with at the counter are both phenomenal! A young man during the week, and a woman on the weekends. They are very friendly, and got me what I needed done. One time my service was going to take longer than expected, and they let me use their store car free of charge so I could run errands while my car was serviced. I have never felt cheated or taken advantage of here, I feel confident that my car is being taken care of each and every time. I also never feel pressured to buy anything, or do things out of my price range. read more

COMPLETE SCAM ARTISTS! And by the way I did NOT give them 1 star....the review did it automatically. Took my car for a simple inspection, my mechanic had looked at my Honda recently so I knew everything was perfectly fine. They called and told me that for my car to pass inspection I had to pay $450 to get the steering fluid leak fixed. I knew I did not have a leak so I asked to be shown... we wiped off the fake gummy fluid that he had poured on top of it to show him that there was no leak... They knew that they had been caught! The guy got a horrible attitude he actually started cussing at us and look horribly panicked and kept saying he was going to call the state trooper on us! For what? Were we speeding inside the garage? Ridiculous. You could tell he was freaked out and we ended up leaving with a rejected car after being lied to about a leak!!!! Everybody there started panicking and the lady (manager maybe?) came and started closing the garage door superfast and the guy ran under the door and inside. The employee at the register actually apologized for his behavior and he wouldn't even look us in the eyes. Absolutely do not take your car there! The guy that acted so obnoxiously was named Chuck I believe, but I could be wrong. We will now be dealing with the owner of Midas and call 12! I have heard about these types of scams... Found on web Walker muffler (brand Midas uses) for $50, part only. Took car across street to Meineke for $200, complete same job Midas wanted $400. After driving cross country, I needed an oil change and heard from a family friend that Midas was the place to go. Customer service was good and they are currently offering a two for one deal for all oil changes. Since I put synthetic in my car this saves me a significant amount next time I come in. Midas is located next door to Target, so that you have something to do while you wait. The only negative thing was that they forgot to call me when my car was complete and in turn I spent a little longer in Targer than I wanted. All in all an exceptional service. read more

I was absolutely sure my muffler was going. The sound seemed to go from my exhaust note, to the middle of the car. The noise slowly got worse and worse. I pulled into Midas Muffler next to the Willow Lawn Mall because I read a few reviews that said they were honest. I told them I heard noise from the under carriage and figured it must be the muffler and they told me they would give me a free estimate. I watched as they raised my car off the ground and inspected it for 20 minutes. Diagnosis, the heat shield is loose. Total charge : $40. This completely eliminated the noise and left my car running perfectly. read more
