The catalytic converter was ripped off our Honda Element a couple of weekends ago. Local Honda wanted over $3500 just for the OEM part, so we asked Yelp for quotes. Several replied, timely, and this Midas location came in with a reasonable quote at $1785 + labor, good turnaround time, and good ratings, so we took the plunge. AAA towed the car last Wednesday from Lakewood to Orange. Midas called a few hours later with a revised quote (rear O2 sensor was ripped, too), and an estimated completion of next day. That did not happen. Later on Thursday, I called: problems would delay until Friday. Again, no call Friday. I called, more problems, Saturday. Later Saturday, I called again. Our contact, Zee, explained what all the problems were, and said they might have the car Saturday before closing. No follow-up call. Midas called Monday morning. The car was ready. Took more time than we expected (by a lot), but, with all their problems with faulty parts and a few extra leaks they welded, they stood by their full quote and delivered a car that my wife says drives better than before the incident. Final price: $2055.99, plus tax. Expensive life lesson (yep, we have a Miller CC deterrent box ordered and have a local installer lined up to discourage future bleepity-bleeps from hacking out the new CC). So, great service, except for one blind spot: most shops I've dealt with over the years take pains to keep customers informed of setbacks and delays. Went for an oil change and it was the fastest and cheapest option for a full synthetic oil change. I spoke to Zee on the phone and he was quick to getting me an appointment. He told me the estimated wait time for appointments for oil changes were 45-60 min which is about standard. A lot of places will say this. But it can take hours. Not here though! It took 22 minutes from the time I parked to the time I drove out the lot to get my oil change done. $70 and less than 30 minutes cannot be beat, and Zee delivered on his word. Very friendly and honest with what is needed and not absolutely needed for the car to work. Now I'm no mechanic, but over $400 in labor for brake pad replacements seems high. Lastly, I called 2 days in advance and made an appointment for this and the person on the phone took my make and model down and knew I was only coming in for brake pads. I waited for almost 3 hours as they needed to order the parts and get them delivered all while I was there. What is the point of an appointment then if you're not prepared? Again I don't know the ins and outs of running an auto shop so maybe that's just standard, but it does not seem necessary for this to be a 3 hour job. The people are nice that work here I think it might just be the way Midas's business plan is written? Up charge labor because there is not a set cost or don't be ready so that the time the customer is there so they can charge labor as being longer when in reality they're just waiting for parts? i'm retired Air Force veteran, The owner of this location Mr. Robinson sold me a 2001 Porsche Boxster. He told me nothing was wrong with the car and that it would pass smog test he was asking 8500 and I offered him 8000. Mr. Robinson who is the owner of Midas was not there that day, his manager signed all the paperwork in front of me with Mr. Robinson's signature. Mr. Robinson was at his home in Riverside not present. I live near 4 hours away round trip. My car i brought from Mr Robinson it did not pass the smog and I learned the dash codes could have been deleted before I brought the Porsche. I messaged Mr. Robinson on Facebook messenger. He said the card needs to be driven more because it had the battery disconnected in the garage. I've driven the car over 600 miles and it has failed to smog test four times. I drove back 4 hour. Roundtrip.and talked to Zee The manager, since he is the one who signed the paperwork and sold me the vehicle. He then tried to say he did not sign any paperwork, and that owner was there which he was not I saw Zee sign the paperwork. He would not help me with my vehicle and told me the owner Mr. Robinson would call. I told Zee he forged the paperwork in front of me, which I have proof. he denied it. If Zee as a manager is forging paperwork with the owner signature who knows what else he has done On paper work At Midas. Mr. Robinson did send me a message and Facebook messenger He said he would help me but not guarantee the car will pass or how much it will cost me. I brought the car after talking with him and that it was in good condition and would pass the smog test. I have had a lot of work done on my 1993 Toyota pickup truck at this location. When I bought it, though the body (not the paint) was good shape it was in really bad condition mechanically and the engine barely ran. There was rust in the water hoses that actually blocked water flow to various parts of the engine and the vacuum hoses were brittle, cracked, and connected improperly. The mechanics at Midas of Orange replaced all of my water and vacuum hoses and connected them all properly. That alone made a significant difference in the operation of the engine. They did a major tune-up and replaced all of the wiring and many other parts. After all the work they did on my engine, I needed new brakes and tires, and of course a new alignment. My truck is 31 years old, but it currently runs like it's brand new. It was stolen in February and taken on a high-speed chase from San Bernardino county to Los Angeles and crashed into the L.A. wash basin. The guy who stole my truck drove like a maniac and had wrecks with four cars, an 18-wheeler, and a cement road divider before taking it off-road at high speed and crashing through a chain-link fence and into the wash. He drove at speeds in excess of 97mph, tore through intersections and around corners like he was on a racetrack and even drove on the wrong side of the road against on-coming traffic. My truck now has dings and dents EVERYWHERE and broken lights, brackets, and various other parts... But still runs like a champion! I believe that all of the crew at Orange Midas have good reason to be proud. Of course, I had to do some repairs just to get my truck back to street-legal and I would like it to look good some day, but I am so happy that I had/have such a great group of professionals taking care of me and my truck. Went in here for an issue about my whole engine, my warranty covered it. They installed a new engine and when they returned the car to me after they supposedly test drove and did everything to make sure was perfect. Once I pick up in less then 5 miles of driving away a new check engine light turns on. I let them know they check it turns out is a sensor. They say that was a piece of the old engine the warranty did not cover which I understood, but why put an old engine part in a new engine without telling me so I can pay for that 50 dollar part. Instead now they tell me they can do it for me but need to charge to open the engine back and put that 50 dollar part and the cost of opening and putting back is almost 900 dollars. Everything just sounded like a complete scam, they chose to not tell me so I can come back without the warranty covering it and now they wanna charge $900 for a $50 dollar part. Horrible overall experience waste of an hour and $30! Car is having an acceleration issue and I explained to them they as to let it cool down for10-15 minutes before it would run normal. Made an appointment. Told them what car I had. They told me it would be a quick 15 minutes. When I got there they told me they didn't have my parts. But they should have known what my car because I made an appointment. Overcharged me $40 for a $10 oil filter. Said it would take 10-15 minutes for the part to arrive and to fix. I've waited over an hour and a half. I am now late for my next appointment. No extra warning about how long it will take. Told me I had no option given to back out as they drained my oil. As I left and got on the freeway my skid plate started scraping against the ground.
