Words can't express my sincere gratitude to Zack and the team at Midas in Newton, New Jersey. After competing at a dog show at the fairgrounds nearby, my Jeep Wrangler suddenly started making grinding noises when I accelerated. Being hundreds of miles from home in an unfamiliar area, I was at a complete loss for where to go for help. Feeling somewhat vulnerable. I googled the closest mechanic I could find. Traveling alone with my dog, I could have easily been taken advantage of by a less reputable mechanic shop. The team at Midas in Newton were outstanding. I suspected my car needed an oil change, but upon further detection, they showed me my front right tire's caliper and brake pad needed to be replaced asap as it was grinding metal-on- metal. Had I not addressed the issue, the consequences could've been dire, perhaps even deadly to myself, my dog and/or others on the road. It's worth noting it was 5:15pm on Saturday of Labor Day weekend and I'm sure everyone was eager to close and get on with the holiday. Despite this, they put my needs first. Quickly sourcing the parts needed to fix my jeep, I was astonished to be back on the road again by 6:04pm. While in the lobby, I had the pleasure of getting to know the team, meeting family members and learning more about the business. Saying goodbye less than an hour later felt like leaving long lost friends. I called she told me to come in around 3:30PM the wait was not more than an hour and labor was about 30 mins with no appointment that is beyond great! Midas in newton is not the place to go to if you want to get work done to your car bring it somewhere else. Most of the people who work there don't fully inspect the cars .Two of the employees I had to deal with were very rude especially the manager I had my exhaust system fully inspected and they missed problems including broken intake manifold. I went back for them to fix it for free as someone who I spoke on the phone said they can do when I made the appointment I spoke to the manager on the phone about it he was very rude. I still brought my car there even thought he was very unprofessional. I'm enrolled in an auto school called universal technical institute and from what I've learned about customer service that is no way to speak to customers he's doesn't know how to do his job which I never tell anyone but in this case but he doesn't. Then he began to start yelling and cursing at me because of me saying I was told it was be fixed free of charge. but that is no way to speak to someone who has spent money to get my car fixed and there was still issues. I've spent countless hours and time attending school to be come a technician and I know a lot of what I'm talking about. I really hate to say it but I honestly hope the manager gets fired because that is no way to run an auto shop. I would like to thank Andre and the rest of the staff at Midas in Newton for helping me today. I tried to make an appointment there on-line today to check my exhaust system leak, however the only time available on-line was very late in the day. I figured I would call to see if I could get in any earlier. I did call and spoke with Andre and asked if he had anything earlier than 5:30 PM. After asking me what my issue was, he said I could bring it right in and he would fit me in to take a look at it. When I brought my truck in, they were able to check it right away and made the repair within a short period of time. Originally went on recommendation from my friend after my regular place couldn't get me in. Now, auto repairs are never inexpensive, but while I thought it was the brakes, they diagnosed it with another and said they brakes were good/ didn't need to be done at that time. Very honest with repair details and what to expect after doing bearings/suspension. So, I went back and again, received very friendly, courteous and knowledgable service. Great customer service by Mike and Jordan. Had my wife's brakes and rotor's done without any issues. Went back a couple weeks later for my brakes and rotor's on my car and another great job. Only issue i had was the rotor's where defective so i had to go back abiut 3 weeks later . Mike had both rotor's and brakes replaced under there lifetime warranty. These guys are the BEST! They were so friendly and replaced my alternator in record time after I broke down. They even helped me order a new battery from another vendor, saving me what would have been $80 in additional costs. They really made me feel at home while I waited in their cool and pleasant waiting room. I would highly recommend this Midas for their integrity, friendliness and great, fast service. Went there to change oil and check why car is noisier then before. They told me to pay 1849.40 to do many things including exhaust manifold. Price for exhaust manifold part wad $708.70 . I refused, that I will find part on my own much cheaper( which I did later on for $140). They changed oil , rotated tires , some system flush, 3 part fuel induct service. I paid more then $ 200, and left home. Next morning early in the morning was about to go to work at 0530 , started my car and multiple yellow alarms went on. That never before happened to this car! I had to go to work , and drove car with no issues with yellow lights on. Car was brought back to Midas ,after my work was over and they checked , and stated that one light went on because "we rotated tires".Second light went on because cup on gas tank was very loose. I didn't rotate tires- they did, not right way! And who loose cup, as no one touched that cup anywhere else? I didn't put gas in car for a week, and it was almost full when I came to their shop. It cost me so much worry for two days at work about yellow lights on in my car. Why? Because I went to Midas . Never again! read more

I needed an oil change and was in the area so it seemed convenient to go to this Midas location, a decision I regret. I have gone to Midas in Franklin many times with out any issues so I expected the same level of service. These are my complaints (sadly there was more than one): 1) I went in for an oil change, but instead I was told that I needed so much more and was told that my car was very dangerous to drive around as is. My car is 3 years old, I highly doubt that. I declined their upsale, agreed only to oil change, new air filters and a new battery. When the new invoice was reprinted, the wheel alignment was left on it, so I would have been ripped off by $100 for services never performed. It may have been a human error, and if this was the only negative thing in my visit there, I would have not even bothered writing a review. 2) While waiting for the work to be performed, one of the man behind the counter went to one of the mechanics and started yelling and cursing very loudly. It made me uncomfortable to be there. It was very unprofessional and feel bad for mechanics who work there. 3) After getting my car back, I drove off. A few minutes later I went to a post office, when I came back and tried to back out of the parking spot, my car died. I re-started it, and it died again. This was weird as I just got a new battery at the Midas. Luckily a very nice man who happen to know cars was in the parking lot, and told me that with Subarus after installing a new battery it has to be hooked up to a computer to recalibrate the ECU, he suggested for me to sit in the parking lot for 30mins with the car idling. Luckily that actually worked, and since then I have not had issues with my car stalling. But I was annoyed that Midas did not change the batter properly. What's worse when I called them to tell them what happened the guy on the phone said that they did nothing wrong and the the ECU does not have to be recalibrated on a Subaru, which is bs as I found quickly on google. Obviously they don't know what they are doing. 4) 2 weeks after getting an oil change, my oil light came on which never happened before. The light goes off at about 3,000 miles after an oil change. Makes me wonder if they messed up doing the oil change as well. 5) This is a small item, but if they can't do this right, it makes me wonder about their skills overall. The sticker that was put on the windshield that tells you the mileage that you should come back for the next oil change had the mileage of my car on that day. So overall, not a happy customer. I have been getting my oil changed there over the past couple of years. Don't know much about cars, and I just realized that they were greatly overcharging me every time they changed my oil. I was charged $170 for each oil change. The reason why it was so much is because they charged $24/quart of oil (6*24=$144 Total). I looked up the specific oil that they used and realized that it is sold at Autozone and other retailers for $9.99/quart (6*10=$60). It is my fault for not doing the proper research beforehand, but the 240% markup is pretty ridiculous. Workers are friendly, but I am upset. I feel like I got taken advantage of. Will be buying my own oil from now on and will be finding somewhere else to get oil changed in the future. read more

They just had lunch delivered and were even nice enough to insist I grab a slice. Stay away.They Charged my Wife 622.00 to add one new pipe clamp (just a clamp) .And the 2 small front flexible brake hose`s that hook to your calibers.The hose`s cost 37.50 each they charged her 101.99 each.I can understand 20 to 30 percent mark up but over 100% just way to much.On top of the excess labor cost they charged 80.00 to bleed the hose`s (REMOVE THE AIR).Should that not be part of labor cost of install !!! I'l cut to the chase. It took Midas in Newton NJ almost 2 hours to get oil and windshield wipers changed!!! Reason - They didn't have the right oil filter. The Walmart across the street has the right oil filter but Midas doesn't? Really??? There's no reason not to stock this filter. The Fram PH7317 or equivalent, is a very common filter used on many vehicles including: Acura - 12 models 2003 - 2018 Honda Accord and Civic 2003 - 2018 Infiniti 1996 - 2017 Nissan 1998 - 2017 Subaru 2009 - 2017 To top things off, when I first asked about the delay, they said they were doing the courtesy safety check. I couldn't see anyone working on my car. I guess the other cars in the shop blocked my view of the industrious but very short Midas safety gnomes, who were hard at work!! ;-) Summing up, the service was competitively priced and presumably done correctly but took far too long. read more

I, unfortunately, had a very different experience than user Ashley S. I was on a long drive when things started to go wrong with my car, the main problem being that I had become desperately in need of an oil change, as the car burns oil even more quickly than I thought. Being out of state and not knowing of any reliable local businesses, I googled the nearest chain auto service shop. Big mistake! I was somewhat distressed, was in a hurry and alone, look younger than I am, and the car is an older model. Ray and his staff at Midas took one look at me and believed that they had an easy sell. They are aggressive and use scare tactics to try to push major repairs. Things escalated from needing an oil change to them wanting to fully repair my brakes to the tune of $1500. I was basically told that I was going to kill myself if I continued to drive the car the rest of the way home. I did not get the work done. I should have known better than to visit any chain automotive shop, not just Midas. These places are like any retail store - they have sales goals and other locations to compete against and district managers to answer to. They try to pitch their company credit cards to get you to spend even more money. Four days later I even had a follow-up voicemail asking me to schedule the brake repair, despite the fact that I live 3.5 hours away from this Midas location. Umm, no. They repaired my car, and installed the part incorrectly. Upon taking it back a second time to have a mechanic look it over again, they adamantly denied that the new noise my car was making was their doing. I insisted they take my car and reinspect their work, and lo-and-behold, it was their mistake. They fixed their own mistake and couldn't even be bothered to apologize or even admit they did anything wrong. If you feel like driving there THREE TIMES to get a proper repair at full price, this is the place for you. read more

As a young woman who does not know much about cars I expected Midas to help me instead of trying to rip me off. My car was shaking when I went higher speeds and it needed an oil change. I spent $75 on the oil change(with a coupon) and they insisted the shaking of my car had nothing to do with a front end alignment I was asking them to do. They found a bubble in my tire so they replaced two of them for about $320 (which they said was the cheapest tires they had). When I left Midas my car was still violently shaking and it turns out with All Wheel Drive vehicles, all 4 tires must match which they never told me. Not only was I ripped off but the mechanic helping me was rude as well. I left there to never return again. I went to STS and found out I needed a front end alignment like I told Midas and that when Midas put on my tires they never balanced them which made my car shake worse.
