Disappointed in MIdas as this shop as always been fair. I don't think that has necessarily changed but they are blatantly ripping off rideshare drivers (I am assuming all Midas shops are implementing this ripoff) Drivers have to get their yearly inspections at Midas. This year they asked if it was one or both, I naively said both not realizing they used that as an excuse to charge $15 more. It is the same inspection, same form used in the past but now if driver answers both they charge $15 extra. The counter person said it is from the "higher ups". I am sure it is - they realized how easy it is to make an extra $15 on rideshare drivers. So, drivers, answer either just uber or just lyft and save yourself some money. It is the exact same form - Midas isn't doing any more work for both. The one star is for this service only - my other experiences with this shop have been good. read more

I was at Midas when the customer that is complaining about the $105 dollar oil change...... sir, you were completely out of line. you wouldn't listen to him and started swearing at him and stormed out. you in fact came at him in the parking lot. you wanted Midas to sell sub par parts to keep costs down and when they broke down they would just come back and get them fixed..... because of a life time warranty..... I pay for quality parts and a warranty so when I drive out of there my care is running well and safely. I have always found them - especially the manager to be very honest and trustworthy. The kid's car muffler fell off and I got an estimate from our usual garage and almost had a heart attack! Over $1,000! I don't need to make the car brand new again. We just want it to not be so noisy. Midas gave me an estimate over the phone and when I brought it in the cost was super close to the quote. $400 works for me. I guess when you are a muffler expert your parts are cheaper and your labor is faster? They called me right as it was done. I wasn't sitting at home for hours wondering what was going on and having to call them... Maybe I should get everything done here? I usually procrastinate getting an oil change, but I think I'm going to break that habit because it was so convenient this time around. I scheduled an appointment through Yelp, and was able to get in here same day. I even found a coupon on their site for a $20 standard oil change or $10 off full synthetic + visual brake, battery, air filter, fluid, belts, and hoses check. I went full synthetic because I'd like to think I take care of my car and I never want to buy another one. I believe the customer service employee was named Andrew, and he was incredibly friendly and informative, above and beyond! He kept me updated, and when everything was done, he gave me a full report but didn't try to pressure me into other services or up-sell me. It wasn't quite a full five star experience only because I was told it would take 30-45 minutes but it took an hour. Pro tip: There are fast-casual restaurants and shopping in walking distance, so go for a stroll and Midas can live-text you if anything comes up. Or stick around the waiting room with the free wifi, coffee, and TV. read more

I've been going to Tires Plus for too long - Midas is where it's at! Tires Plus had been my standby oil changer for 5 years. But recently I'd been having a lot of trouble getting an appointment at a convenient time. After checking out their coups online and giving them a call, I realized Midas charges the same price and their appointments were wide open. The staff here are so courteous and helpful, took the time to personally go over the vehicle inspection, didn't pressure me in to any additional services, even made it clear that overall my car was in good shape for its age despite the long list of what another shop might call "problems", which made me feel more secure. I'll definitely be back in 3 months for my next service. read more

Had a bad experience at Midas. Went in for a noisy brake and long story short, they didn't reassemble part of the brake correctly, and a bolt sheared off. Luckily this happened as I was turning in my driveway and not at speed on a highway. I gave 2 stars as they were pleasant to deal with, it was easy to get an appointment and of course, repaired their repair for free. There are more than a few auto repair shops in the area, and I will choose a different shop next time. read more

I worked with Jeff and he was great! Jeff has a lot of industry experience, was very professional and answered all of my questions with honest info. I didn't feel like he was trying to over sell me on anything. I originally got my struts replaced (all 4) and had a few problems after but when I brought it back, Jeff took care of it with no hassles other than the time it took to make the fixes. Come here for your $105 oil change and if you're looking to pay double retail prices for any parts they put on your vehicle. They offered me an alternator for the low low price of $600 that I can get at a dealership for $323. An oddly high price considering a retail aftermarket alternator is $175. So this shop wants to double the retail price of an alternator for the incredible service of calling someone who stocks it and delivers it (Midas adds no value to the parts but wants to charge us double retail). When I mildly protested by telling the man who claimed to be the shop manager that I would buy him dinner if he paid even the retail price of 323 dollars for the part, his response in front of a few other customers was not to tell me the price the shop pays for the alternator. No, his response was to tell me in front of a lobby of 5 to 6 customers that he would never have dinner with me ( which i was not offering, I offered to buy his dinner). But if course he said something defensive like that, he's charging double retail for parts and can't justify it. Then when I was driving away, he happened to be walking out of the shop, I told him I'm not coming back anymore, the manager stopped my vehicle and tried to start a physical fight with me. Nice guys. Opened 15 mins early because I was waiting at the door. Was traveling from Chgo to drop my daughter at college when exhaust pipe broke. The manager said the muffler and most of the pipe was actually in good shape so let's just do a sleeve over the break, weld in place. Said it could hold for a couple of years. I went in for a walk in oil change & was out of there in less than half an hour!! The staff was very friendly & the waiting room was cozy. They didn't try to upsell me at all which was a relief to me. I come to this Midas because it is right by my work and they advertised coupons on their "billboard". I used to go to Jiffy, but I was always appalled at how much it cost and I hated how they "went over the specs" with you, basically trying to heckle you into buying things. They don't do this at this Midas. I booked 3 appointments online, and they either call or email you back to follow up with a time to come in. Usually it is pretty quick, less than a half hour. Today it only took about 20 minutes. I walked to the post office and came back and sat for about 7 minutes and it was done! When I was checking out, the service man gave me a hole punch card (I had to ask for it though, so they should promote it better!) After 4 oil changes you could get one free! I just wish I would've known they had that, I've had three already! He basically said everything looked good, but if i hadn't gotten my transmission fluid changed yet then I probably should. He didn't try to sell me or pressure me. Same thing for my tires the last time. They told me the tires were getting worn, and I said "I know." and that was it. It is especially nice because I usually go alone, and I feel more pressured because I don't know anything about cars. It is nice that they make you feel comfortable, and the prices seem pretty fair. The only reason I don't give them a 5 star is because I've only had oil changes done, and the coupon used to be a $19.99 special and it's $24.99 now. Oh, and I get the oil change plus, which they are supposed to rotate your tires. I don't think they do. :-/ If they do, I haven't noticed them doing it. They are right next to a $5 car wash and vacuum, so that is nice too. read more

I have had my oil changed here two times so far. Making an appointment is very easy, either online or calling. They are very accommodating with making your preferred time work. They are very friendly, have free WiFi, coffee, a power strip with a desk type bench if you have work to do while you wait. I have never had a problem using a coupon and they provide me with recommendations without being pushy or condescending, like I have had at other places. I trust what they tell me. read more

My wife and I have changed oil at Midas Columbia Heights for the last few years on our 2 vehicles, and occasionally done other tire work. I found the service is really good, but there is some room for improvement on proving consistent customer care. For example topping of fluids at oil change. My power steering fluid was slightly below the low level after checkout, and when I asked, I was told the engine is cold, and that is why it looks low. I drove the car there, the engine was warm, and the level surely did not change a bit after getting it hot. I once was late about 10 minutes due to traffic and lost my appointment. A phone call or email to the customer before canceling an appointment would really help. I'd give 5 stars in a heart beat. read more

The extreme cold weather, being sick and it being a Holiday weekend last weekend made for a very difficult time to be having car trouble. Andrew helped me out by having the only Technician (Mechanic) on duty squeeze my car in to get looked at. I had it towed to the shop and stayed home so I wouldn't get others sick. Andrew was patient with all my calls checking to see what was going on (no other car available and really need to have mine working "just in case" illness got worse.) The bad news they couldn't replicate the problem (wasn't starting) and thus couldn't make a fix. The good news, Andrew sent a G.S. staff person to bring my car to me so I would have it and (hopefully) it would keep working. Very happy with the extra special care Andrew provided! We've used this location for years and would continue to do so, however our favorite Mechanics left so we have followed them to other locations. Good news for those fans of Jeff S., he's at Midas in Coon Rapids! I took my car to him Tuesday and he had it running better than ever within a day! Will still use Central Ave Midas in a pinch, but we are going where our Mechanic, that we have grown to trust over many years, now hangs his hat. read more

It matters which crew is working. I've received great and terrible service from here. I usually go to Honest1 they have a good crew all of the time. There are two front desk clerks, the younger guy is great and the older guy does not know customer service. I had brought my car in for a quick weld on my muffler a month ago and brought it in again recently because it had another rust spot where it became disconnected. First of all older guy didn't greet me I had to almost wake him up and remind him I had called in and made an app. They couldn't make it work this time based on "too much rust", although last time it was the same situation and they made it work. All of this took about 5 mins. The older guy moved the rubber back on my exhaust pipe and said there you go, which was cute but just fell back down into the same position afterwards. I requested to make a 5 second cut so that pipes didn't clash and if they could take care of that. Older guy said "I'll see", reminded he's had a poor attitude the entire time. This is a simple simple task. I watched as they made a 5 second cut thinking awesome they're just going to take care of it or else he would have had my approval to do so for $$. We're talking 5mins 5 seconds total time, and they charge me for it before even asking. Older guy smerks, do you work for free. I'm thinking, Is it really worth it? To piss off a customer. I'm not here to give a hard time, I'm here to get something fixed and go to work. This was all at 7:30 maybe he had a rough morning. Won't be returning. Sorry to the good crew here.
