I went there in a frenzy because I had a really bad leak. I first went to Carx right next to my house and they used "vechicalese" on me that I couldn't understand and told me they couldn't look at it until next week. Upset by the experience, I drove to this Midas and the owner, Terry, greeted me at the door and had a mechanic named Justin look at my car within 30 mins. I was on the road by the next day! When I returned to pick up my car a nice gentleman named Pat explained to me, in terms I could understand, what they did to my car and gave me a discount for the inconvenient wait. I had what ended up being a super bizarre and drawn out saga of car trouble. However, the moral of the story is that these guys were great is keeping me in the loop with what was happening (with a problem that was in no way their fault) and really reasonable in how much they charged for the amount of time they spent diagnosing the problem and fixing it. I went to Midas today for a second opinion on my AC after my dealership wanted to replace the compressor. I like this shop since the staff are up front, and I was not disappointed. The gentleman who helped me thought it might help to charge the AC, but when he realized it was working ok today he just suggested I come back another time, if it stops working and did not take advantage of me by charging the AC, and charging me the 170$.00. The shop performed a couple other repairs..I needed, and their prices for filters are much better than Honda. read more

Similar to that tire review, I did my very first oil change at Midas, after receiving my car, I went straight to Chicago, and then the oil indicator turned on while I were still on I-57. After pulling off, I found my oil life was only 15% and called the store personnel, who asserted that they did change the oil and suggested me to do another check-up after my trip. They used to be much better. I don't think Derek is there anymore.They seem a lot more disorganized. The last few times I went in for an oil change, I found myself waiting for HOURS. And it's not because there were issues with my car, but rather because they didn't start working on it at least 1.5 hours after I got there. They didn't even apologize. And I had made an appointment!! One time, they actually admitted that they forgot about my car, so I basically wasted almost 2 hours waiting for nothing. I would NOT recommend them for oil changes: they're not cheaper than other places and you have to be willing to wait hours for what should be a really simple task. I might go back for other things, like brake pads. Definitely never again for regular maintenance or oil changes. The only pros are: (1) The staff does explain things your car needs without pushing the sale too much, like another reviewer said (but they always try to sell you something else); (2) the waiting room is big and clean. read more

For a car-challenged person like myself, I have probably most appreciated their honesty and genuine concern for customers. Never fails to recommend services that are upcoming/due and gives a reasonable quote for each service. Recommended that my Fiance come here and she has not regretted it since. Watch Out! Don't be fooled by the reviews I went in with my Jeep because it was having trouble braking. They pulled it apart and explained that everything on the rear brakes needed to be replaced to make it safe to drive. They said the front brakes could wait until I could afford to do more work. They brought me back to show me the parts scattered on the floor under my vehicle (which was on the lift). There was no way to put it back together before they closed, and I didn't know enough to questions the price so I said to go ahead and fix it. The rear brakes on the Jeep cost over $1,400. They were generous enough to apply a $50 coupon. I've talked to various professionals since then and have shown them the receipt that details what was done. They get a sick look on their face when I tell them the cost and they strongly advise me not to go back. Now I am advising you to not use the Midas on Moreland Blvd. in Champaign. read more

[Revised] I've had a couple oil changes here and my wife and I have both had great interactions in our initial visits. Last December we needed our ball joints fixed and battery replaced. I was quoted around $630 but after my car was fixed was charged about $770. I'm really big on ethics and low balling is a violation of good ethics. I preferred this place until that happened. (Prior to revision stated other issues but having it checked by another shop revealed no tampering was done. So from my experience and to the best of my knowledge they honest in doing their work and fixing the problem they said they would and leaving it at that.) read more

For a girl knowing nothing about cars, coming to a repair shop is somewhat intimidating because I don't want to be ripped off. That was not the case here. I came in for a simple oil change and Misti, the assistant manager, and Patrick, the manager, made sure I knew exactly what was happening. Patrick made sure that I understood how my car's oil/filters worked, explained why things had to be done a certain way, and even showed me a new things about my car! I've been having overheating issues with my car for about a year now. I've done nearly everything I can think to do to fix it, including taking it to 3 mechanics. The day before I left to go home for Thanksgiving, I made an appointment to have my car looked at and/or have a coolant flush done so that I knew I'd have enough coolant to get me home and see if there was a leak. Dave, the manager, listened to my very long, rambling story of how the issues started and have manifested, what I've done to fix the issues, and talked me through what he was going to do. He did every kind of test he could think of and purged my system of air. After all said and done, he even test drove my car around town to make sure it was safe. I appreciated greatly the lengths he went to to ensure that my car was safe and able to make the drive to Chicago for Thanksgiving. He talked to me like a real person, validated my concerns, and ensured me of the fix. I appreciate him and the woman at the front desk for their great communication! read more

the staff is courteous and know what they are doing. i always have oil change here and they make inspection on other parts quite thoroughly. the good thing i like about them is they never push me to have my car fixed, so they just print out a detailed quotation for me to think about. the only one thing i would love them to add in the oil change package is vacuuming. whenever i need vacuuming, i have to go somewhere else and I don't like it! read more

Had a fuel line leaking and they wanted to charge $850 for a new fuel pump. Got it fixed elsewhere with a $5 hose. They are rip offs, and a company who claims to care about there customers tries to save their customers $$, not take advantage of them. Rip Offs...... read more

I took my car in with the expectations of having to get my rotors replaced and possibly brake pads replaced as well. When I originally went in on a Saturday morning, they asked me to come back around 2pm, which was fine because I still got in same day. After they took a look at my car, turns out there was something very minor needed for the brakes and everything else looked fine. So unlike most maintenance shops, Midas was very honest with charging me for what I actually needed done. They were also very good at explaining the details to someone who knows nothing about cars and very patient! This Midas definitely gets 5 stars and I will return for any future repairs. read more

I got a sharp object stuck in my tire and live out of town from where I work. It was bad enough that I could hear air escaping. I stopped by Car X just before 5 pm in Savoy. They were open until 5:30. I explained the problem, the manager said that it was not safe for me to drive my car home, that my tire would likely blow out on the interstate but he couldn't help me because his "guys" were off at 5:00. I saw the three "guys" hanging out in the parking lot. My husband called Midas and told them my situation, I was on the other side of town but they said they would wait for me.. not only that, the assistant manager, Nathan stayed and fixed my problem... even though his "guys" had already gone home as well. Seriously, this is what customer service is all about. He said, "I just wanted you to be safe". The guy who runs the shop is a snake. I literally heard him talking about ripping people off in the garage. He's got a bad pitch he throws at everyone that comes in, "What are your intentions with this vehicle?", like it's going to blow up at any moment if you don't get 3k of work done on it right then. Gotta say I never trusted Car Repairmen, but these guys are awesome. Took my mini to a few mom and pop shops and they wanted 150-200 for a hinge to be put on the trunk (I had the part mind you). I was getting work done on my Jeep for breaks and just off handedly asked them if they could do it...waiting for a big no cause its foreign. The manager Patrick took a look and said oh yeah we could do it and since you got the part it will be well.....50 bucks....I was shocked and paid at that moment and every moment in the future. I honestly felt like no matter where you go you couldn't get better service than what Patrick Johnson, and Nathan Watterson gave on that day. The mechanics are top notch as well and Jeep runs great... so yeah you need stuff fixed go to Midas on Moreland, great guys and great service. Thanks!!! read more
