But the Duke St. Midas is never one to settle for second best and strives to go above and beyond that famous namesake. For every three tires we turn to gold, we guarantee that the fourth will never stay on your car and potentially kill you and your loved ones. Is it an extreme strategy? Of course...but sometimes you need to take risks to win. For example, I used to date a girl with a lazy eye. Things were fantastic but it turned out she was seeing someone else the entire time. I'm one of those people who gets the big things right and epically FAILS at the small things. After losing a hubcap and buying a replacement, my excitement turned to horror as I stared at the contraption in my hands. It didn't look anything like the only one I had to replace 8 years ago. I didn't have anyone to help, so I stopped by Midas on a busy Saturday morning. I got to observe Midas's interaction with customers and didn't see anyone threatening to morph into Naomi Campbell after price quotes. That's always a plus. They helped me out in a matter of a few minutes and sent me on my way - and did it all with a smile. Didn't charge me one red cent, either. Have been living in the area for years. In the last two years I have gone to this Midas location. They NEVER recommend something that isn't necessary, provide you an estimate of how long you have to get the work done, or they find an affordable alternative. Never have paid for anything crazy. Jerry is very professional and will give it to you straight. Drove car in for preventative maintenance after having it previously checked just weeks beforehand. Quoted for $700 worth or repairs on brakes (new pads and rotors). Fine. Car is ready Saturday. Magically, by Monday the car suddenly needs $2400 in repairs on the brakes because the "pedal is now completely to the ground and the car is not drivable." Mechanic who looked at it weeks before said these guys definitely messed with the brake fluid and their laundry list of to-fix items is 6 times what it should be, literally. Told Midas to not proceed. When I showed up Tuesday morning (without announcing it), the front desk guy looked surprised. I wondered why my car was back in the shop if they were "finished" working on it.... SKETCHY. AAA guy who towed my car to my mechanic 150 miles away said this shop "clearly took advantage of me because I'm female." On June 19, 2020, I took my car in because a previous exhaust system installation performed at another shop was causing a lot of problems. I went to the Duke Street Midas based on the very good reviews that the shop received on the internet. I was not disappointed. I had an excellent experience beginning with Jake, the friendly the manager who efficiently scheduled my car into the shop, to the very high-level quality of the work performed. The technician that worked on my car, Kevin Lepage, is a true craftsman who takes great pride in his work. He had to completely dismantle my exhaust system and reinstall it correctly which he did quickly and at a very reasonable price. I am absolutely delighted with the outcome. I had my car serviced at my dealership (foolishly bought the service package) and they told me I needed $800+ in brake repairs (pads, rotors, fluid flush) because of a squeak. Seemed a bit high so I took it to Midas (Jerry) who did a break check and he found my pads had 15,000+ plus miles left and the squeak was likely just some dust between the pad and rotor. Jose was excellent. He did the work on my car and showed me everything that was going on. I really appreciated the exceptional service they had here. I am really wondering where all of these 5-star reviews are coming from - this place is awful. Nobody should ever go here. Long story short (the long story is below), this place tried to up-sell my car-knowledge-lacking wife on every possible add on imaginable. I am usually used to auto shops doing some of this nonsense, even to me, but to balloon a 180 bill to 800 dollars in a matter of minutes is absurd, irresponsible, and immoral. Yesterday, my wife, using her day off, decided to help everyone out and go get an oil change (not at this location - think it was called Georgetown auto or something). I asked her to have the guys check out the brakes because I knew they were getting old. Not surprisingly, this shop said the front pads were at 10% and the rears were at 50%. They quoted her 380 for the brakes and another 100 to flush the system. I knew this was a little on the high side so I told her to call Midas. I specifically said "They are a national chain, so although they may not be the best, they are the least likely to rip you off." They quoted her over the phone 180 for the breaks, and 80 for the flush. I told her to go there and just get the brake pads replaced, because the flush is mostly unnecessary and a way for them to make more money. She arrives at Midas and asks them to only change the front pads. The procede with a 12 dollar inspection she never asked for. (during this inspection I think they stripped a lug nut on the rear tire - although I cannot be 100% sure it was them). After the inspection they come back with the following: $12 - Inspection $180 - Front Brake Pads $120 - Rotor resurfacing $80 - Flush $140 - replace cabin air filter $120 - fix stripped bolt (see above) $140 - Fuel injection treatment My car you ask? A 2006 Rav4 with 35K miles. 35K! These are the orignal brakes, rotors, tires, everything. Why in the world would a 4-banger with 35K miles need a fuel injection treatment (outside of maybe a 5 dollar gas additive)? The rotors were fine, they didn't need resurfacing (and Autozone does this for what, 15 bucks a rotor - 120 bucks? Seriously?). I can buy two new (decent) rotors online for 50 dollars each. The Cabin air filter is 5-13 dollars and takes approximately 37 seconds to replace, according to youtube. Although not car-knowledgeable, my wife at least knew something was up and called my father (I was in a meeting). He was kind enough to tell her to only get the front brake pads replaced and nothing else. And now I have to fix a stripped bolt (funny, the oil change guys didn't mention a stripped bolt). Absolutely ridiculous. Don't give these guys a single dime. If the car wasn't up with no wheels already (and my wife angry and frustrated from a now 3 hour ordeal) I would have told her to go anywhere else. read more

Seemed nice walking in but I had an oil change & had them check my brakes while I was there. Long story short, Jerry tried to tell me I needed $600 worth of work (brakes, rotors on front & back) & when I declined he told me it was really dangerous to be driving on & tried to push me to do it. My dad is also a mechanic but he lives about 45 min away, but I took the time to bring my car to him to try to save some money. Turns out rotors on front & back are perfectly smooth & perfectly fine, def needed front brakes but everything on the back was fine. I've had my cars and work vehicles serviced here for over 12 years. I've also recommended this shop to scores of friends and relatives over the years. That translates into a lot of repeat business. Jerry is a great shop manager, friendly and very knowledgeable. I'm mechanically inclined and have worked on my cars/trucks for years. For the larger, timely repairs I take it to Midas. My starter recently went out on my Jeep. I priced the part out at $140 at Advanced. Two bolts, and 3 wires. Fairly easy with a lift and not a very timely repair. Quoted $730 (parts +labor) over the phone... I expect better from a shop in pricing and so should you. Sorry guys.. read more

5 stars because they saved me over $1000 at the dealership! My Subaru Forester had a loose heat shield which rattled loudly. The dealer said it was too rusted to weld or clamp and must be replaced for $1200. After reading about Subaru heat shield issues online, I called Midas. Jerry was very professional on the phone so I made an appointment. My car was evaluated within 15 minutes of arrival. The cost to weld and clamp: $55! Another 15 minutes and it was fixed! Of course they recommended some higher priced maintenance options (my vehicle has nearly 115K miles on it) but they had already been performed elsewhere so I declined. There was no hard sell or pressure. Very good customer service. My car is quiet once again as I drive down the street - my neighbors are so happy!!! read more

Perfect--Everything you want in a mechanic! Honest, quick, & solid craft. I went here for the first time because of their $20 oil change coupon. It was the first time anyone else other than me had changed the oil in my car. 20 bucks is actually cheaper than I can buy the filter/oil on my own, so I thought why not? 2 years later, I use this shop for everything. And I do mean everything--new tires, new brakes, etc. Jerry is the man. I feel like he tries to give me the best deal possible, which is refreshing from an auto shop. For example, now I need to get my tires rotated every other oil change. "No problem!" Jerry says, brandishing another coupon that includes an oil change w/ free rotation. Seriously?! It doesn't get any better than this. You can't put a price on trust. *I should also note this review is only for THIS Midas. I made the mistake of going to another Midas shop after I moved. I went in because the low brake pad indicator light came on my dash. Jerry did the inspection then informed me it would be about $160 for the brake pad replacement and $130 for the rotor resurfacing. Thinking he was trying to rip me off, I asked that he just do the brake pad replacement. He advised I get the rotors resurfaced but did not insist when I asked for just the brake pads. Then I called my uncle who informed me that $300 is a reasonable price to pay for both a brake pad replacement and rotor resurfacing. Even though the mechanics had already finished my car and taken it off the lift, Jerry kindly obliged when I asked that he go ahead and do the resurfacing. I came in for the VA Emmision test. He said half an hour. I say sure, I go grocery shopping and come back in a half hour. Gets the car in for an inspection a half hour AFTER that. Guy at the front desk comes back and says he can't get the emission test going because there are cracks in my pipe. I think "Thats funny, I got that new 2 years ago...". He quotes me a $500 ball park job. I say no thanks. I drive down to the exxon station and saw no line for the emmission test and say why not? The exxon guy says you dont need to do anything with the exhaust pipe for this test on a car as new as mine! I watch as he plugs into my cars computer, passes my car and sends me on my way. Best michanical service I have recieved in a LOOOONG time. Walked in with my BMW sounding like a helecopter... they took it up on the lift right away and within seconds located the problem, and within minutes it was fixed and i was ready to go... from the time I walked in to the time I left was 15 whole minutes. to top it all off, NO CHARGE... i tipped the mechanic and was on my way. I got an oil change the other day, the kid changing my oil took what appeared to be personal calls (judging by his body language) 3 times. These calls lasted a long time and he actually walked outside (mind you - customers can see all this from the waiting room). Once would have been no big deal but I thought it was in very poor form to let that happen 3 times in a business like this when people are stuck in a waiting room and watching. If the calls were urgent the task should have been given to someone else. The Manager saw me glaring and did nothing. I would have either told the guy to get back to work or jumped in myself and completed the job (an oil change is very easy when you the vehicle on a lift - like 5 minutes, I used to work at Jiffy Lube in HS). Found a nail in my tire the night before a 14hr road trip. Called the shop at 1830 and they told me to show up at 0730 and they would fix it. As a double measure, I went online and made an apt. Got to shop 15 min prior to opening and the garage doors were open and the staff was already working on cars. Waited about 5 min and they got me in!!! Within 30 min I was on the road and made it safely to my destination 800 miles away!! Jerry AND his crew are amazing....friendly, fast, and professional. Jerry also asked if I had security locks on my tires before any work was done. I see another review stated problems with their tire lock being broke...best thing about a business is when/if they make a mistake they learn from it and train NOT to let it happen again. It is so hard nowadays to find a good, honest mechanic. Heck, I've been looking for almost 20 years. I decided to stop visiting the dealership in which I bought my car for maint. issues since they love to rip people off and found myself visiting good old Midas. I worked with Jerry on a brake issue and he was very friendly, honest and prompt. What impressed me the most was his honesty. He said my brakes did not need to be replaced (like Landmark Honda said), rather it needs a minor repair, which cost me about $250.00 less. I was so impressed with his honesty that I told him he now has my business for life. That's great customer service. Only negative, the parking lot is far too small and is extremely dangerous trying to get in and out off. Be cautious! read more

I used to use Midas years ago but have not ni a while, but I do call them for a 2nd quote on labor and parts and their quote is always 30 to 40% higher,,, Anyway, I went there yesterday(7/9/2015) for an oil change and free tire rotation (coupon) and was the first customer in at 7 30 am and was told I would be the first one in the bay. 1 an1/2 hours later I was still waiting for service. They did the oil change but had to order the filter (yet the day before They told me on the phone they had 2 filters for my 1995 Jaguar xj6). As for the tire rotation....the mechanic told me one tire had a damaged lug nut and could not proceed. Actually, after I left I found three tires with damage lug nuts.. I know my jag and none of the lug nuts were damaged when I brought the car to Midas. . The mechanic also told me I needed front wheel bearings and I declined the work since I had that work done less than a year ago .....only 6K miles ago..... 3 and 1/2 hours later I drove off with an oil change Beware of this Midas shop, I now have to buy at least 3 lug nuts and possibly pay labor to have the damaged ones removed read more

My wife who lives in Alexandria (she works in DC and I'm a Marine stationed in Camp Pendleton CA), being cautious and preventative, dropped her car off at this location the moment her brake lights came on. Initially the estimate to repair the damage was around $700.00 which she agreed to. The following day she received a call explaining that the damages to her car were now in excess of $2,400.00. Ok, after reading into it I have learned that it is not entirely uncommon for follow on problems to be identified during the process, so after getting in touch with our mechanic back home in West Virginia and sending him a copy of the original and the final estimate he informed us that It appeared that we were being taken advantage of and he would be able to do the repairs for a fraction of the cost. Needless to say, she turned down the additional repairs, was ready to pick up the car and eat the cost of the initial estimate and repairs and drive to our hometown to leave the car with our local mechanic. Upon going to pick up her car after declining the additional work they would not LET her take the car off the lot, claiming it was unsafe to drive and needed to be towed as the brake pedals went straight to the floor. She has had to since upgrade our AAA membership to now accommodate the tow back to West Virginia and to be able to even get the car out of their lot. Oh and on top of that, had to pay the initial estimate of almost 700 dollars. It looks to me, her, and everyone else informed of this incident that they in essence totaled her car and tried to severely take advantage of my wife's ignorance of cars. She has since called me crying, feeling taken advantage of and used by these people for their own personal gain. For anyone reading this who wants to be sure of the validity of my claim, id be happy to show you the invoices if you got ahold of me in private. The moral of this story, 700 dollars later and our car is worse off than when we left it with these scam artists. read more

As a female (that looks young) with little knowledge about cars I am a prime target to be swindled by car shops. With that being said, I am going to give an objective review about my experience here and try to leave any sentiments out. I took my car here because my window stopped rolling down and Jerry gave me an estimate on my window regulator that was not working properly. For the labor it was estimated to cost $299.55 (including the diagnostic test) and $295.99 for the part, totaling to a whopping $655.69 (with tax and other fees). I was literally shocked to see how much the total was and I specifically asked Jerry if he called an after market shop for the part because it seemed expensive. He said that it was definitely an after market price and any dealership would be way more than what he quoted me. Fortunately for me, the shop did not have the part and they ordered it to be installed another day. When I got home, I still couldn't believe how much a window regulator was so I searched online and was surprised to see it so cheap. I decided to take things into my own hands and I called the dealership to find out the part was $189.50, brand new! How could a used part be $106.49 more?? I knew something was up then, so I called another Midas store and they also quoted me less than the dealership price and way less than what Jerry did. In fact, I told them I went to another shop and relayed the price Jerry quoted me and they said, "wow, you are being ripped off." I decided to call Jerry and tell him what I had found out and he basically lied to me point blank, claiming it was not his fault that the after market shop part cost that much and he didn't think to call the dealership. He kept on fumbling on his words and tried to fast talk me into returning, but he knew that I knew what he tried to do. In the end, I took my car elsewhere and paid $344.25 (the part was only $127.47). If I went to Midas it would have been $311.44 more! There is something to be said about treating costumers with respect and honesty and I definitely did not get that there. read more

i like this place - they will do all of my exhaust work i called and told the guy about the leak on my wife's car (it sounded like a race car). he estimated (over the phone, cool!) $400 for new parts and work. went it, dropped it off and was told 2 hours. an hour later, I got a call, and he told me his guy told him it looked weldable, and recommended just welding it. total bill, $140. job done 1 hour after the call. i mean, call me to offer a lower price than the estimate, and have it done on time? you win my business! read more

Went to them for a good ten years up until a year ago when I needed an oil change and my cabin air filter replaced. I happened to have the filter and asked them if they would just put it in. He told me labor was $28 to put it in. I asked him about being a loyal customer and he wouldn't budge. I then went to Wiygul and they put it in no questions asked. Customer loyalty means something and they basically traded a measly $28 for thousands of future revenue and customer ill will. read more
