Affiliated with the Sturdy Oil Company (multi-generational, family-owned petroleum distributor…read morebased in Salinas, California), this single gas station in Monterey CA clearly showed lower gas prices than the other stations in the area. The pay-at-the-pump CC price was $5.65 a gallon which (unfortunately) was much lower than the others in the area. We stopped by before 07:00, beating the rush that other reviewers warned about. And they are correct, the entrance/exit is awkward and its not easy to get in/out (especially since the hoses are not the long variety, forcing you to park on the same side as your gas tank).

My husband and I pulled into the gas station so we could get $70 in gas for our RV. A premade deli sandwich and an ice cream for myself. As we walked into the store. Two cars pulled up behind us to get gas. The owner who was parked at the other I pump. While walking up to the counter my husband and I were asked if that was our RV, We said yes we're getting gas. She proceeded to tell us to move the RV so that the two cars could get gas. Once again I told her we are getting snacks and gas. She then tells us to pay for the gas and go. I have never been treated so rudely in my life. My husband is white, and I am Japanese. The owner of the store was Iranian and the people in the cars were Mexico. I feel this store is very racest and I will never go there again. We put the snacks away and payed for the gas and left.

We talk, he makes some over the phone suggestions. Tells me that he'll need to put the car on a rack/lift, but it should be quick fix -- unless it's not, of course, and we can adjust as necessary. So far, so good. We make an appointment for noon the next day. I pull up about 11:55am. Both racks have cars. Ok, no big deal. The mechanic, oddly, is not around. I speak to his ... i don't know... helper? He gives me some vague answers about when to expect the mechanic to return -- somewhere between a half-hour and who-the-heck-knows. I suggest we call him. What a novel plan! The "helper" calls the mechanic and hands me the phone. I speak to the mechanic -- say that i understand his racks are full, maybe we can just use the hand lifts? my oil pan/filter/etc is right under the engine. Here comes the good part: "Well," says the mechanic. "can you leave it with me?" "I didn't bring a ride," I say. "You'd said this would be a quick thing." "Well, here's the deal," he says. "I'm on lunch right now." You're WHAT? Hey, wow, do you think you're the only person in the world on lunch? Did you think i just slid down a rainbow out of some retirement fantasy-land? Someone who makes an appointment and then goes to lunch should be drawn and quartered. If you can't meet someone at a specified appointment time... THEN DON'T MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. The "helper" then asked if i wanted to make an appointment. Woah! Why didn't I think of that in the first place? Oh wait. I did.
