We agreed to sell Mid-America Instruments lab equipment, an HPLC/MS, for $50K. We received their PO and scheduled a pick up date for the equipment which went directly from our facility to Mid America's customer, Southwest Research Institute. We were to be paid shortly after delivery to Mid-America's customer, which occurred on schedule and Mid-America received payment. We never received payment from Mid-America. We chased the Mid-America owner with phone calls and emails for MONTHS and were promised payment week after week, with continuous excuses why he couldn't pay. We came to the conclusion he never intended to pay us and took legal action. We have received court judgments against Mid-America, its owner and several of his related companies. Through our lawyer's investigations we learned that we are not the only company that has received judgments against him and this man has hidden his assets to avoid making court ordered payments. It has now been almost 2 years and we still have not been paid. Based on our experience people should not sell equipment through Mid-America without receiving full payment in advance of shipment, otherwise the equipment will be, for all intents and purposes, stolen. read more
