Definitely the place to go when you feel a geek streak, need computer advice or electronic supplies. Recently needed to replace my laptop. Some of the sales staff seem a bit too eager. I am no novice with computer equipment, but there are a lot of new features, too. As I browsed around looking at available supply, I could not help but pay attention to differences in the sales staff. I did approach someone that I felt would take the time to address my questions without hype. I was very pleased with the sale and financing terms available. Their customer service is TERRIBLE and they do NOT check their own work. I ordered a computer online. From the time I ordered until the time I picked it up, which was 5 days; NOBODY checked or checked somebody else's work to see if the computer had a Windows Product Key on it so I could register. Not ONE person. So I get it home and guess what? Due to THEIR error, I have to take the entire thing back and have them swap it out. I requested a manager call me two days in a row. Never got a call. Called back and requested to speak to a manager again. I was put on hold, then blind transferred to Mars as far as I knew at the time. This place is a joke. I don't care how big of a geek you may or may not be. you work with other humans, you better have a lot better customer service then this. I rarely give anything a 5-star rating, as nothing in life is perfect and these guys are no different; but they are indeed as good as it gets. Good selection, prices competitive to Amazon or Newegg, easy return policy, knowledgeable sales staff. You can't expect all of this from the Best Buys and HH Greggs out there, and you can't expect to have your purchase in-hand immediately from the online giants. Sometimes, as some reviewers have noted, you may have to wait for or search for a staff member if you have questions. They are usually visible on the sales floor, but they are also always busy with such a high volume of customers in the store at all times. I've visited stores in Columbus, Cleveland, and Philadelphia, and I have had a consistent experience at each. My best experience was with a TV that was on a short promotion that we ordered online for in-store pickup. The order didn't process correctly, the promotional pricing ended that night, but the store manager extended the price to us the following morning when we checked on the order. This was a substantial discount at a manager's discretion that we neither asked for nor expected. I wouldn't want to say that our loyalties were bought with appeasement, but such a generous gesture won't be forgotten. A few bucks saved and free shipping are nice from the online stores, but my instincts are always to check Micro Center first. read more

I am a very basic computer user. E-mail, basic word processing, storing digital photos, web-surfing, watch international pro cycling livestreams. I don't game or perform more complex functions. I have 2 computers purchased at Micro Center. The first was a Power Spec desktop (their house brand) which has lasted me for nearly 8 years with minimal issues. The 2 times that I have had to call their tech support (which is free and very friendly to someone like me) the issues were patiently diagnosed and led me through the resolution without trauma. Never felt that they were under pressure to meet a time deadline for working with me. When I've needed little things like a new mouse or keyboard they've been easy to find at good prices, and help available if I needed it. Also, it is a locally based business! When I decided that I wanted a laptop with certain features, I wanted to return to MicroCenter since I had had such a good experience with them, although I did shop other chains. I felt a bit overwhelmed by the selection on the website at first (mind you, I did spend some time researching on C-Net and other sites to try to have some idea what I needed to accomplish my goals and what various terms meant but I was feeling insecure). I wasn't really pleased with my encounter with the salesman in-store although I didn't have any specific complaint other than he seemed fixated on selling one particular brand/model (maybe it WAS the best value for the money etc but I wanted to discuss the pros/cons of their other stock too and he wasn't interested in that). So I went back home and called the tech support line, and was helped to sort out what features I needed, what would be nice, what I could skip and directed to various models that fit that profile. Maybe that wasn't quite what the service is intended to do, but it once again made me a fan of MicroCenter . I then purchased the model that I decided upon online and went to the store to pick it up. Very fast and easy. The price was the extremely competitive as well! I nearly bought my digital TV there but was wooed away by a killer sale price at another store. read more

Whenever I walk into this place are usually have a few hundred bucks to spend but the last few times I've been in it seems as if people don't take my searching serious. For example the last time I went in I walk into the Apple section of the department store. The guy who is multitasking on the computer barely looks up at me and asked did I need your help did I know what I was looking at. I respondedYeah I'm good for now but I am looking to buy a computer today. As I told him what computer I want it that I have my mindset on he continually trying to upsell me even though I think what I want it was just right. Great selection (which amazingly does match what the .com site says is in stock, unlike so many other places); service is good too; hasn't changed since the old days on Lane Avenue, except that there's less of the long-time push to get marketing info which would lose MC a star if it was in place now. I purchased a laptop from Micro Center around 8 months ago and 3 days later the screen stopped working. I looked up the issue in a search engine and found a number of other people having the same issue with the same model of laptop. I took it back to Micro Center and expressed my concern and said I would like to choose a different model, but the service manager dismissed my concern and said, "if you use Google to search any issue, you will find at least a dozen people experiencing the same issue. It doesn't mean that there is a systemic problem with the laptop." They replaced the malfunctioning laptop with a new model. This one worked for 2 months before the screen stopped working. I took it in to the service department, expressed the same concern, and was dismissed with the same explanation again. They said that they had to try to repair the malfunctioning laptop and could not replace it with a more reliable model. I experienced the same issue with the same model twice and found three dozen other people complaining about the same issue on support forums. The explanation that this could just be a fluke struck me as pure stupidity. Micro Center service had my laptop for two months, apparently because they somehow received the wrong part from the manufacturer, before calling me and saying that I could come in and get a store credit to pick out a new model. I returned to the store (for the 4th time) and picked out a Dell Inspiron 5548. The first time I plugged an external monitor into the laptop and then unplugged it a few minutes later, the computer restarted and my unsaved work was lost. I took the laptop back to Micro Center. They said they would work on it and called me after a couple of weeks saying it was repaired. I went back to Micro Center (5th trip) and picked up the laptop. I went home and tested it by plugging in and unplugging an external monitor and it was still having the same issue. I called and asked them why they told me it was fixed when it was still doing the same thing, and they said they didn't try to recreate the problem the same way I did to verify that it was fixed. (Yes, pretty stupid.) I took the computer back to Micro Center again (6th trip). This time they shipped it to Dell and I was without a computer for around 45 days. They called and told me they had received it and I went in to pick it up again (7th trip's a charm). In the repair order, the only thing Dell said they did was remove my SSD and replace it with a spinning disk hard drive, which seemed to me to be an unlikely fix. Brought it home. Tested it again. Same issue (this time with a new boot issue). I went to work on it myself and fixed the display driver issue and the boot issue in a couple of hours. My guess when I started this saga was that Micro Center was more qualified to repair computers than I am. Turns out, that isn't true. They can't even perform the simple task of plugging and unplugging an external monitor to replicate an issue, let alone diagnose and fix it. These guys are a joke. The service manager was smug and the service tech's are inept, and they have no appreciation for the value of the time of busy people. read more

I ended up going in the same day and instead of buying what I thought to be a good computer, the man who helped me out gave me a better computer that would suit my school needs more!! I waited for more than 30 minutes for a computer that they said was "ready for pickup". As I was waiting I witnessed the manager buy pizza and play on his phone. Then when I finally got my computer it had two scratches on it and I had to come back later because the staff did not return all of my items that I dropped off. This was a terrible experience and I will NOT be recommending anyone nor returning. Micro Center used to be a good place to go but not any more. If you go in to their computer area you need to shoot off a flare or something to get attention. You are ignored. Online they have chat help. The sales chat people won't tell you anything about the products. I can't recommend anywhere else to go, but I do not recommend the guys either. Since I wrote this review, a manager asked for me to send him the details and said some one would call me. I sent him the information of my visit to the store and transcripts of my chat line conversations. No one even called. This shows how disrespectful this place has become. I bought Computers and peripherals for the DOD. Millions of dollars worth. The reason I couldn't recommend anyone locally was most of my experience was national. I have bought both new and refurbished equipment at this MicroCenter store in Columbus and always been satisfied. Nothing beats seeing, touching, trying and buying a product at a brick and mortar location that offers what you need at a fair price. Most of the staff is helpful and friendly. Prices are good and the selection of everything is excellent. MicroCenter's website is first rate and as accurate as it gets so you can do on-line research before you go and check store inventory. It is no wonder that this chain has thrived while so many others have fallen by the wayside. If you need a computer or component, this is the place. The sales associates seem knowledgeable and the prices seem decent on most things but the personal touch is non existent. It seems like no one has time to help a customer make an informed decision. When I was able to get help I was recommended a computer that was much more than I needed (I'm assuming the staff works on commission) for my the basics I was using it for. I'm pretty sure word processing and web browsing doesn't require an i7 with 16GB of RAM! Anyway I found my way to a small computer store on the East Side that took the time to help me find a computer that was capable without breaking my budget. I attempted to work with Micro Center on a webcam solution for my laptop on 5/21/2020. I understand there are precautions during the opening of the state, but what happened is nothing short of ludicrous. First, I accidentally walked into the store without registering outside. Stupid customer. Then to get past the spritz/mask/handiwipes station was awkward at best. I still don't understand how spritzing the hands of someone who has the virus will protect anyone from being exposed. So next, I wait for several minutes while customers are being helped at the Knowledge Desk. I note that no one seems in a hurry and the conversations take the same amount of time as before all this. Then it's my turn and suddenly "We can only work with the customers for five minutes" because of our Covid rules. OK, this is where I walk out. That's it. I did not come out to enjoy the open-for-business state and get things done to be confronted with this. I have another computer store. That will be all Micro Center. read more

Too bad 1-start is the lowest grade level. They deserve 0. So, my laptop died. I took it to MC and after a long saga that lasted 2.5 month I got the laptop back still in non-working condition because ; "we could not find part necessary for the repair". We I got the laptop back, I saw instantly that repair facility did not care much to put my laptop back properly, one of the hinges was not flash and one screw was missing. Since my data was still on HD, I took the case apart and to my dismay I saw the reason why hinge was not flash: the wire got in the way and that wire got partially damaged. Mote to it, HD was missing a rubber corner and some rails to keep it in place; DVD-rom was not screwed in,, plastic frame that houses keyboard was broken and who knows how many more screws were missing. What I saw was more than enough.. So I contacted them, they told me to bring the laptop back. I did. After explaining the situation to front desk manager and customer service rep over and over again (all I wanted for them to bring my laptop back into the same shape I gave it to them) . Finally store manager showed up. Again, I explained to him that their repair facility damaged my laptop. And gave him a list what was wrong. He took it back to the local techs. A bit later he showed up w/ only keyboard removed. At this point HD was exposed and it was clear it has only 3 rubber corners and no rails that keep HD from moving. He asked me which wire is damage (but to see it partially cut more parts needed to be taken off. So SM took it back again. After he showed up, he gave me my laptop and lied to my face: "There is no damage, your laptop is fine. We are done" As I said, all I wanted from them to fix damaged they caused and put back parts that were gone after their "distinguished" service. Stay away. they deserve to be used for "showrooming" only. read more

Micro Center is a wonderful price competitor to Newegg.com, with the added benefit of offering same-day pickup at my local store. I have used both the stores in Cincinnati and Columbus. There are a few particular computer hardware products where Micro Center destroys Newegg on price. Because this is my main shopping interest I usually check reviews and compare products on Newegg.com because their product review community is more thorough, but then buy the product on Micro Center's website and pick it up in-store an hour later. And for those times when you're in a jam and need a special part right away, Micro Center has your back. Many times it is more convenient for the same price. read more

Let me say that I have made a number of purchases from Microcenter but my reticent month has been a real pain in the you know what. I bought 4 GPUS in the first week of January and went back for another a week later and was unable to buy due to new policy and waited another week and so I did. After such time I asked my stepson to make a purchase for me as it was "In Stock" and after 3 trips over a 3 day period with no success .So now my wife and I have driven 30 miles each way 4 times to find that the "in stock" items are not available .....are they being held for friend or family? Bought a simple router with an instant $30 rebate. Noticed when I got home the instant rebate never was applied per the receipt. Phoned the store. Customer service advised, "Yep, rebate was not applied." ..........Phone went dead.......... Called back. "Yep, was not applied but the store manager has to fix this issue, and he's busy. Will call you right back." ..........Never called........... I phoned back. Per customer service at Micro Center. "Rebate was indeed not applied. Have bought 3 computers from here in 10 years. All 3 broke. Two broke after only just over a year. One just 19 days past the 1 year purchase. Ironically, after the warranty runs out. I did take both of them in to the knowledge center where they have a sign that says free diagnosis if you purchased from them. The sign also says satisfaction guranteed. However, they did not even plug them in. They said I had to pay 43.00 in diagnosis fees per each. Then I get a call the next day and they want 270.00 to fix 1 computer. So they want over $300.00 with the diagnosis fee that they already charged me which I thought was supposed to be free since I purchased from them. This computer was only in use for about 16 months and I bought brand new. Since I had purchased all of my computers from them which they had on file and the short amount of time I had this computer and since all 3 have broke in a very short amount of time I said I refused to pay that but would pay for the parts which I found out later they drastically mark up. Tom, the gm, refused saying there is no negotiations. I asked Tom to please read the 1st sentence of their mission statement "satisfaction guranteed" and he refused. Ironically, right under that it said free diagnosis if you purchased from them but obviously neither of these statements hold water with them. So, I refused to have them fix my computer and will refuse to ever purchase anything again from them. I did fill out a survey detailing all of this to their corporate office but never heard back so they don't care either. When I went home I did price the parts online and they totaled $60.00 way under their quote to me and on YouTube I found out how to install both with a total install time of 20 minutes all you need is a screw driver. They wanted to charge me over $260 for this. Total disgrace. I highly recommend to everyone to go somewhere else for their computer purchases. Maybe use these guys for their knowledge but go somewhere else to make a purchase. With my purchase track record with them it is obvious they sell inferior products. Maybe that is why they are cheaper on the front end but on the back end you end up paying way more. I have already caused them one laptop purchase from one of my employees who had planned on buying a laptop from them last Monday where she already had a quote in hand. I am going to keep a tally of how much business I reroute to their competitors then send tommy the gm a annual itemized list of how much his no negotiations stance has cost Micro center. I know shady and guarantee 100% they are shady. Don't say you have not been warned. Even if you buy the extended warranty they will wiggle around it and insure that eventually you pay out. They will get your money because they made it clear to me that is more important then customer satisfaction or offering products that will last. read more

I needed to buy ESET antivirus and with that purchase, the cashier was very pleasant and professional. However the rest of my experience was not. I was interested in buying the HP 27xi monitor (on sale) and was simply told it wasn't available and that I could go home and order it online. No offer to take my info and let me know when they come in or have it shipped from another store. Even after I expressed that I didn't feel comfortable having it shipped to my house, he offered no other assistance and moved on to another customer. I went to the website and typed in 27xi and found nothing returned in my search. As I came to fine out, when a local store is out of stock in a product, the search comes back empty (stupid). Two days later I called the store and went through an ungodly amount of steps and redirects back to the website (the one which had zero results) until I finally got someone. I was told there still weren't any in stock but there were lots of inquiries on this popular model. Still no offer to contact me or help me further. He just told me to call back later... yeah right. I checked today online only to see the monitor is no longer on sale and still not in stock. I ordered my monitor through Amazon today at the sale price. It will be delivered Thursday with free shipping. Looks like I'll be ordering a lot more online at Amazon instead of the Microcenter store. I have been a loyal customer for years buying at least 3 desktops, 2 laptops, 1 macbook pro and tons of other peripherals and software. I purchased 2 Power Spec Computers about 5 years ago with great results and wanted another. But the one I chose kept going off the list. I called and couldn't get an answer so I was promised a return call. It never came. I waited and it didn't relist after Christmas so I called and found out it was discontinued. I had a technical question and was promised a call back. It didn't come so I got on the Chat Line yesterday and they couldn't answer it but promised either a call or email before the end of the day. So far so good. Every time I've been in they've been very cool about answering questions and helping me pick the right item. Everything has worked and been compatible. The only thing that bums me out about this place is that the pay is strictly commission based from what I understand. Is there really no base pay? That would just be immoral to have people putting in hours they don't get paid for. How much can they really be responsible for their sales, y'know? They're dealing with people who go look around and then buy stuff online, or maybe store policies/prices aren't doing them any favors. I'd be curious to know more about their arrangement. Someone else here says they don't always carry the best brands. If that's the case maybe it's because they're so expensive it's tough on their sales staff? I don't know. No complaints at all about the staff, the products, the repairs. I just hope everyone is getting their fair share. Good prices generally. Often better prices on-line or sale and coupons emailed directly to you. Staff knowledgeable and often has advice to save you money. Any warranty less than platinum is essentially worthless. We got a few laptops from them, both of which had power cord problems. In both cases they claimed accidental damage, despite the fact that one of them was being used as a desktop. There is no practical check on their ability to just make stuff up regarding what happened to your computer. We are a medical facility updating our computers and my computer person recommended Micro Center. On March 1st, 2011 I made a big purchase and once we (my computer tech & I) returned to the office we connected a monitor that we purchased for $239.00. Once we powered everything up we noticed the screen was cracked. When returning the monitor Josh the store representative refused to accept the return stating it was a "stress fracture". Josh more or less indicated our office broke the monitor. I watched my tech take it out of the box, power it up and it was broke. Don't buy anything here, everything is cheaper in NewEgg. I used to buy things that I needed fast, but never again. I've always heard of Micro Center but never really bothered to check the store out as I always made my computer part purchases online. I'm really glad I decided to make the trip down. Their prices are insanely cheap and I recently found out that they match online sites such as Newegg and Tigerdirect, which are typically the cheapest places to grab your parts anyway. However don't go in expecting them to match Amazon. The sales staff has always been helpful to point me in the right direction when needed and the cashiers have always been very social and nice. My most recent visit was for an item I had "thought" I'd seen on their website for $60 so I decided to head down after work one day to grab it. Upon arriving and finding said item it was actually at stock price for $90 so I let the sales guy know that I would look around for an alternative. He insisted that we check online and looked up the item on the Micro Center website on the spot. With no luck he informed me of the price matching (which I had no idea of at the time) and proceeded to check Newegg himself to try to find me a better price. A few minutes later I left the store spending even LESS than I originally intended. All other visits have been super quick and super cheap so I highly recommend this place if you're wanting your electronics quick with little out of pocket expense. read more

18 months ago purchased an Acer laptop and added a two year service agreement. After the second mother board blew, they totaled the computer and offered me the remainder of the service agreement ($230) and gave me the hard drive. Was not happy so asked for store manager. Another manager said policy was to refund full purchase price if warranty would not cover repairs. So full price ($450) was refunded in a gift card. That seemed reasonable. Had to pay sales tax and another service plan, but figured that was the rent on the Acer. My advice is do not buy an Acer and ask for a manager. Did meet the store manager who was walking the floor.
