I was stressed out because the reason for my trip was quite stressful. Anywho- I had booked a car with Budget and tried to get my vehicle but the young man at the counter was so rude to me, inconsiderate and not helpful at all. Turns out there are some new rules at Budget that hinder a car rental unless you have a credit card. The young man wasn't even going to tell me that Alamo could help me so I would've been stranded in a strange place, all alone- what a butthead! Thankfully I walked down the line and saw sweet Barb who greeted me with a smile and promptly helped me and gave me a free upgrade to an SUV since the weather up north was showing snow. Barb helped me to start my journey off on the right foot and she made me feel cared for, safe and like she actually wanted to make sure her customer was treated with respect. Barb is AMAZING at what she does and I was just so thankful and appreciative of her understanding and hospitable nature. Barb is a big asset to Alamo Rent A Car, she will make your experience easy, quick and even fun with her kind words! She really cares about her customers and that is a great employee! But instead of refunding my account, Avis CHARGED me: $3,408.90 and when I called to discuss their mistake was told to email my original e-receipt because the only one they had on record was the incorrect $3,408.90. When I tried to escalate this to a supervisor, the customer service rep. kept me on hold for over15 minutes, so I hung up. The reason I signed up for Avis and became a preferred member was because of their customer service. Today, that service is long gone, and they are not at the top of the list. I would look at renting from Hertz - as they are much more professional and have outstanding customer service.

So I had to await their opening, which wasn't gonna be for several more hours. I had to drive to MSP to catch a flight. So I proceeded to DLH to explain and see options. They were a bunch of help. They were able to conduct the mod' at no additional charge. That made this possible. Surprising to me that the dropoff location was able to do what the main personnel couldn't. After getting the vehicle and having the person at the check out gate not be able to pull up the reservation, I went back to the counter and spoke with Tyler. I explained to him that I had been positive that I'd reserved a vehicle but could not find the reservation email so asked what he could do to help me/ my family out with a van for a few days. He was super nice and helpful getting us set up on the spot and what was even more pleasantly surprising was that he gave several discounts to make the charges very favorable (when he could have easily charged more given the circumstances)!!

We did not have a great start to our long weekend trip up to the North Shore. Our car got hit by…read moreflying debris from a truck hauling poorly secured who-knows-what (we've since learned that the technical term for stuff flying off a trailer is "leaking load," and you should always call State Highway Patrol when you witness a "leaking load." So now we know). It was a heck of a scramble trying to figure everything out on the side of I-35! The frustration was greatly relieved when we learned that Hertz was not only open, but had a fun car available! The cost of renting the Mustang convertible was pretty high, TBH, but all things considered, it was totally worth it. Everything went smoothly with our car rental. Staff were friendly and helpful, and we had no problems with the vehicle itself.

My card was charged $364 after I agreed to the insurance and the charge to not refill. I had it overnight, returned it in perfect condition, less than 100 miles on it and barely below full. $364, but my card will be credited in a few days for the actual charge of $169. Never again.
