Very upset that they cut me with the drill. This was my first time going here. I had regrettably foregone my usual nail salon to accompany a friend and tried this place out. I rarely, if ever, get cut and when it happens it is so upsetting because your finger hurts for a week and you risk infection! She wasn't even going to put alcohol on the bleeding finger until I asked her to. Gel manicure turned out fine and even though I think the name is great (I might be biased), I probably won't be back. read more

When I see negative reviews I know that at times, anyone working in an establishment can have a bad day. That being said, if you are employed in the service industry, good customer service comes first. This is the Upper West Side of Manhattan. You are going to have to deal with dozens of different people with different personalities day after day. With the exception of dealing with patrons who are downright disrespectful, you should smile and do your job. Allowing a prior bad experience with a customer to negatively dictate the rest of your interactions with people, is bad for business. You are not going to be able to please everyone. And to the employe who has that "Why are you bothering me?" look on his/her face, the customer isn't making you work there. If you don't like your job, it's not the customer's fault. On the flip side of the coin is the customer that makes the service employee's job harder. The one who is rude, condescending, fails to leave a tip or undertips. (I can't remember if that's a word) You should treat service workers the same way you would expect someone to treat your parents, children or siblings. If you are having a bad day, it's not the employee's fault. A simple smile and a "hi," goes a long way. My wife has been going to Michelle's nail salon for several years. I myself have gone in and had my nails done several times. The workers at Michelle's Nail Salon have always done their best to accommodate the both of us. As a teenager, I worked in the service industry and know firsthand what it takes to make sure some people are satisfied. Sure, not everyone is going to give them 5 stars but I will. The worst job imaginable. I went for a dip manicure which usually lasts weeks. In three days my nails were cracked, broken, polish removed. Not only was this not a dip manicure,it was utterly the worst manicure I have ever had. Avoid. Would give less than one star read more

I live in the neighborhood and was looking for a great new nail spot. Michelle's just opened up a few weeks ago, so I figured I would give it a try. The woman that works at the front desk (Lisa) is lovely. She helped me pick colors and told me about their prices. I had Nicole do my pedicure and my gel manicure and everything came out perfectly! Pedicure was $30 and gel manicure was $30 as well. I know they have a regular mani/pedi special, but can't remember what the price was. Nicole was amazing (and a total perfectionist) - she took her time and I never felt rushed to get out of there. The pedicure massage chairs are brand new and beautiful. They also offer other types of services (waxing, facials, ear candling etc.) I will definitely be back to try out those services as well. They are a bit more expensive than other salons in the area, but it's totally worth it. When getting a gel manicure done, they even spritzed a tiny bit of sunscreen on my hands. I appreciated that they took the extra step to make sure my hands were protected from the UV lights. It's little things like that, that make a salon memorable. Have I mentioned how nice these ladies are?? I felt right at home. I can't believe they haven't been reviewed by any Yelpers yet. Friendly staff with proper Covid protocols in place. When you step inside, you are greeted with calming music and a nice hello. Getting a pedicure is even more relaxing when you are seated in their nice massage chairs and a given a great foot massage. I loved this place, until Jean through a hot towel at me and laughed. I complained to the manager. Jean admitted to it and the manager apologized. I pay money and tip. It was my first time at this salon today. I was a walk-in customer and i asked if I could get a manicure. The lady, Nhan, was really nice and polite, she greeted me, told me to pick a color ( also helped me pick one ), sat me down and started doing my nails. She was really good and i am so happy with the nail results. A few minutes later, this lady starts walking around, i supposed she was the owner, being very rude. I did not know who she was so when she looked at me, i smiled and greeted her, but she just looked at me strangely and left behind the counter. When this other customer walks in, apparently she was scheduled with Nhan at 5 o'clock, and it was 5 already, she saw that Nhan was finishing my manicure so she nicely told her its okay and not to rush and she will wait. Seconds after that, this lady who as i said i suppose is the owner, walked to me and said "you only have gel?" I said "yes", and then she started yelling at Nhan ( probably because of the schedule she had at 5 and the lady was waiting ). Was very rude to her employee and then yelled talking about her with the other employees. Very unprofessional. She could've had a talk with her afterwards , but not in front of the customers. Very very unprofessional. And when i was done and wanted to pay, first thing she said "tip cash" , " tip cash". Very rude and made me feel very very uncomfortable. Made an appt for a powder dip manicure (usually takes 1 hour at the most) and left 2.5 hours later. My nail technician got up at least 8 times to assist other customers, answer the phone, and greet new customers. Each time she got up, she was gone for at least 5-10 minutes. When she came back, she didn't apologize or explain, she just continued my manicure before abruptly getting up again. I get it-nail salons are busy especially at peak times, but customer service is essential. I've been to numerous salons and experienced the owner having to get up/answer the phone, etc, but never have I experienced such complete disregard and lack of care from someone being paid to complete a service. To make matters worse, my nail technician was so focused on those around me that she filed my cuticles back so harshly that I left the salon with throbbing, bleeding fingers. I also needed a refilling 4 days later! I went to a different salon with much better service and accommodation, but I literally paid almost $100 for two dip powders in less than a week because of the terrible, painful, and lengthy manicure that this salon's nail technician provided. Tip to the owner (or whoever was doing my nails)- all customers should and deserve to be treated with respect and kindness. It's great that you have so many people entering your salon wanting to try out your services, but if you neglect the customers sitting in your chairs to the extent that I was neglected, you'll not only lose those customers-you'll see a drastic decline in the number of people entering your salon. read more

The technicians are OK. The male owner is exceptionally rude. Terrible experience - won't be going back. I asked for a gel polish change. Normally when I do this, they don't do your cuticles/massage/etc., but they still file your nails. At Michelle's they will literally just remove your polish and then reapply it. OK, fine. I went with the full manicure and I was told up front my services would be $30. The staff proceeded to loudly and obviously talk about me right in front of me for most of my appointment. When I went to check out, my total came to $38 because of the fee to remove my existing polish. Then, the icing on the cake: When I tried to tip on my card (because I had $2 cash), the owner leaned over to *look in my wallet* and said, "YOU HAVE CASH." Not acceptable. With so many other salons in the area, that type of behavior is just appalling. Just go to Modern Spa. read more

Worst mani I've ever gotten. Beware of this salon. There are so many great options in the area of places that actually care about their customers. First off, the place looks clean, but the tools they use are not sanitary. I only go to nail places where the tools are clean and each wrapped in individual sanitized packets. Not only did the technician use tools that I saw had just been used on another client, but she tried to file my nails with a used nail file! Yuck. Don't waste your time. Head to Modern Spa down the street. The staff is attentive and courteous. Also Modern offers water and tea. Walked in to Modern and was attended to right away. I came here for a gel fill in and my god it was horrible. After he put on the polish the shape was nowhere to be found and I said I wanted coffin. It was so thick and clumpy. He did NOT know what he was doing. I went home and literally went to another salon to fix it because it looked so bad!! The other salon looked at my nails and said "who did this to you ??" They completely fixed my nails. NEVER go here for a fill in because they don't know what they're doing. This would be a 4-star salon if Susie's weren't two doors down. I only rolled in because Susie's was PACKED at 11am on Xmas Eve. The experience is slightly above average for New York. Slightly. Michelle's is clean, well-stocked, and adequately staffed. Otherwise, it's the typical nail salon proposition as 90% of places I've been: The workers won't speak much English besides "Hello." "Thank you." "Cash tips only." During your service, they'll rattle on in Vietnamese, Mandarin, or occasionally Spanish, and you'll spend your time trying not to wonder whether you're being talked about. Exceptionally, they offer disposable gloves with keratin in the fingers as standard service. Typically, while your nails are drying, you'll get a half-hearted massage, during which the rattling won't slow much. My stylist proactively noticed that the polish on one of my fingers had gone a little askew, and she fixed it without any comment. That's the sort of thing every place *should* do, but not every place *does* do. Takeaway: This is a perfectly nice alternative when Susie's is too busy. read more

The place was clean, and relaxing. Not many people there on a Monday night which I liked as well. However, I got a gel manicure, and it is now Friday, and already almost all of my nails are peeling off. The woman also cut me a few times, which is to be expected, but I bled so much that it went into the nail polish itself. It looked like she was paying attention to detail but upon closer inspection most of my nails were not fully painted to the beds. The pedicure was decent. Overall I spent too much money for a gel manicure to peel just as fast as a regular manicure, and for an ok pedicure. read more

I told the lady at least ten times I want my nails same length and same shape narrow but she kept filing my nails and making it shorter and wider. Went here because all other places were busy. It's large with good air circulation. I was in and out pretty quickly which is what I needed, but I'm not sure if id come back. My girl was very hard to communicate with and she wasn't that detailed in the pedicure. I attempted to let her know my nails were not cut evenly, but I eventually gave up because she wasn't getting it. End product was good, just not a very relaxing experience. Side note- Massage chairs seem to be less powerful than most. read more

I live in the neighborhood and decided to come by and try this place out. I didn't have a good experience here at all. The lady doing my nails RUSHED through every step of my manicure. First she filed my pinky finger so hard that there is a cut under the nail. Then she filed the left and right hand two different lengths and didn't even let me check it before she started to paint. She painted my nails HORRIBLY. She left nailpolish under my nail and on the sides of my nail and put me under the drying light. Then to had to get someone else to fix my nail. First of all they charge more than what the other nail salons on 72nd do for a manicure and they do a sub par job. They try to rush you so they can accommodate other clients but they end up making mistakes and taking longer. I do not recommend this place. read more

I have had consistently good services here...usually a manicure and pedicure. They are ok if I bring my own polish and will do a buffing manicure. The only thing I wish is that they would soak my fingers in warm soapy water instead if using the lotion gloves. I don't know why salons have stopped doing the soak, doesn't seem to cost more or take more time than the gloves and works better for my cuticles. Oh well... otherwise, they do a neat job on nails and toes. And I appreciate that the salon is usually quiet vs blasting music. p.s. But I still miss Zen, they were The Best Ever! read more

This place is professional, clean, and I had a great experience. Tina and Cindy did a wonderful job taking care of me. They are polite and friendly but not too talkative which is fine. I even got a little upper back massage after my gel manicure. Gel manicure and normal pedicure for ~$60 which I think is great. 10/10 would recommend! read more
