At 32 weeks pregnant lying in a hospital bed, the last thing you expect is to have your trusted medical professional leave you high and dry. I came into my pregnancy actively searching for Dr. Lewis due to her amazing reviews. With this being my first pregnancy, I wanted someone I could confidently trust. She was wonderful, until my medical history complications showed up. She became dismissive, laughed at my husbands suggestions or ideas (which have been proven correct now) and made us feel like we were wrong and the cause of these problems and pains.
Fast forward to 32.5 weeks, I'm lying in a hospital bed with my High Risk consult informing me that it's best I deliver due to the complications. At 9pm Dr. Lewis walks in to my room, dismisses everything which was stated, and tells me that ethically she cannot deliver my son because I'm to early. As a human, I can at least respect someone for removing themselves from a scenario where they don't ethically feel they're the best fit. What I can't understand, is how as a medical professional, a woman, and a human being, can walk into one of the most crucial points in a new soon to be mothers life, raise her voice and state she can't do her job because due to my, and quote: "anxiety, this baby will not just have complications and problems, but wait until he's 2 to 4 years old, I will see how wrong I am for following other doctors orders and delivering earlier than 36 weeks." She told us my baby would die. Flat out, die. He would be on oxygen IF he lived. No one is denying anxiety isn't a real thing, being anxious and full of emotions at 32 weeks pregnant in a hospital bed would make anyone freak out when being consulted by NICU doctors. No one wants to hear their baby may have complications. However, to treat another human being the way I was treated in that hospital room is something I won't easily mentally recover from. I have never felt more demeaned and put down by another human in my life, and Dr. Lewis did so before one of the most important times of my life. She genuinely up and left my medical care the moment it got too hard. She left me lying in a hospital bed scared, with no direct provider and directly told me that when there are issues with my son, I'm at fault because I can't check my emotions and I'm causing all of this. I'm sorry, you can't mentally make your blood pressure surpass critical levels. You can't make yourself go into labor early because you're scared. You cannot give yourself SEVERE PRE-ECLAMPSIA (as stated in my hospital records) due to stress. As wonderful of a doctor she may be, she took on my case, aware of my preexisting medical conditions, it got hard, and she left because it didn't go her way. My body started to fail from the original plan, and she left us.
There were witnesses to our conversations who were purely there to make sure this is not a he said she said scenario. I've been directly told that these were the most unprofessional conversations, the times and places were beyond incorrect, and that the things she said were cruel and uncalled for. I feel as if I was bullied for being sick and having complications. I'm truly disgusted this is how my experience being pregnant ended - with the medical professional I trusted most saying the issues that arose where my fault and she can't be a part of my care.
I truly pray this experience or anything like it never happens to another soul. If you're reading these reviews, please thoroughly consider that if you don't have a picture perfect bill of health, this could be a reality in your most vulnerable moment.
Dr. Lewis if you're reading this, I trusted you. I respected you. You left me in my most scared and vulnerable moment of my pregnancy and made me feel like me complications were all in my head. You made me feel as if I was harming my child, by following the recommendations of the high risk doctors who you connected me with. As a human, I don't understand why you did this. I understand if you didn't want to be in the room because you felt your skills as a doctor weren't enough to help my case, I would have respected you more that you would put my health and safety above an ego because you weren't educated enough to handle it. I can never respect the things you said, the way you actively chose to put me down in my time of need. As a provider, you're supposed to be there and help, but all you did was leave. That was cruel, disgusting, and the definition of the unnecessary stress you told me that I shouldn't have on my shoulders.
I will be living a long and beautiful life with my expanding family, and your vicious words and wishes in the most crucial time won't take that away from us. read more
