If you have food allergies or enjoy being treated like a human being, don't order from Michelangelo's.
Despite the fact that their Grandma's pie tastes just like the ones I loved in Brooklyn, we will no longer patronize the joint. We were frequent customers, ordering delivery or takeout almost every Sunday. Sometimes when we had family over, we would special order a no-cheese item for my nephew, who is very allergic to dairy. At first they would let us order personal pizzas for him. Then we were told the owner said no special orders. They won't do personal pizzas. So we would find something on the menu that we could order without cheese (yet still pay the "with cheese" price). Last month I had to order something special again. Spent a long time on the phone w the cashier trying to figure out what I could order for him that wasn't pre-made w cheese or ridiculously expensive for basically pizza dough, red sauce and pepperoni. Finally settled on something and strongly emphasized that absolutely NO DAIRY could be on or near the item. No butter, no cheese.
I should have checked the order before the delivery guy left my house, but I really thought my message had sunk in. After all, she kept going back and forth w the owner asking questions about what had dairy ingredients, so I felt secure knowing he was aware of the special request. Well, the order arrived and the pepperoni bread had cheese all over it. I called to say that we received an egregiously wrong order and waited on hold for about 10 mins. When the girl finally came back to the phone, she told me that the owner said I could come to the restaurant and switch out the wrong item for the right one. Um, no. That's not how this works.
I asked to speak to the owner. After putting me on hold several minutes, the girl came back to the phone to tell me that the owner is not there. I said, "How can that be? You were just talking to him." She said, "He just left. (Long pause) Would you like to talk to the manager?" "Yes." Waited another 10 minutes at least. Then she came back and asked for my number and can he call me back. Of course, the longer I was made to wait, the more my anger was building. So I yelled into the phone that NO, I will NOT wait for a call back. Someone needs to make the correct order and have it delivered to my house immediately! She put me on a brief hold and came back to say that the delivery guy was heading out the door to bring the correct item. Which is what should have been offered to me in the first place.
Not once did I receive an apology. I actually don't have a problem with the staff. The cashier who took my order, though not very knowledgeable of the menu items, was patient with me. But the owner is horrible. This is not the way to treat a loyal customer. Or any customer. How much do you want to bet he was there the whole time and just unwilling to come to the phone? The icing was when I was told I had to bring the wrong item back. Are you kidding me?! You're just going to trash it. And for what? Because you think I'm trying to scam you over $7? I just hope they didn't spit on my poor nephew's pepperoni bread... read more
