    Entry with Sale Signs!
    Genoa D.

I love Michaels. Something is always on sale here and Micheals rewards are bomb. Unfortunately, this location lacks abundance. The shelves are always a bit bare and variety of overall products is low. I need my craft store to inspire me a little more.

Who doesn't love racing to Michaels when you have a sudden burst of arts and craftsy rushing through your veins?! When in doubt, this is usually my go to place for finding craft items I need. My friend loves coming here for her DIY fashion projects as wel. Though the pricing of some items can be a little ugh, Michaels is ALWAYS having some type of discount or sale so make sure to sign up for their email newsletter! Unfortunately there were some things (surprisingly the lower priced stuff) that was out of stock, but it seems the employees are aware of that and working on it based on the blue dots they place on out of stock items. Another good thing going for them is their clearance section, which takes up the entire side of one aisle. Employees were great and accepted all of our coupons/discounts. Military and teachers receive 15% off on any day.

No frills arts and crafts store with elevated prices. I only venture here if I'm packing a coupon and I know Walmart won't have what I need; even when I do go, the store always gives off the "you should have come sooner before stock was picked over" vibe. Truly reminds me of Kmart without the blue light specials; the building next door, ironically a former Kmart, is presenting some ease of access and parking lot issues due to large scale construction. Staff members aren't rude but don't go out of their way to greet you or ask if you need assistance. If you need an art supply ASAP and have struck out with Prime Now and Walmart, or can't wait for Amazon shipping, then make the trip....with a coupon.

When in doubt, scavenge for little plastic men. Springtime. That time of year where Death gets some time off and Life takes center stage. But what does Death do with all of this newfound time on his hands? Who approves the PTO request for Death? Is that person too busy with conference calls and off-sites to actually approve the request? I bet you never realized that there were so many moving parts to this machine, so much going on under the hood. And so it is with Michaels. Your mom probably comes here for those little plastic flowers to finish off that Project she's been working on now for about 6 years, the one she never actually gets time to finish because of Dad's Problem. You know..... And you tag along with Mom, just to make sure that she is okay and doesn't take the first train heading North and to the promise of freedom. At least that is your excuse. Once inside the Modern Marvel that is Michaels, stop. Linger. Search. Inquire. This is the place, this is the destination where you are allowed. Nobody judges. You want to spend a few hours searching the aisles for little plastic men? No worries, you are among friends. We don't judge, we actually don't even care what it is that you intend to do with these little plastic men once you find them. We only ask, however, that you do it far away from here and the Inquisitive Eyes of Little Suzie, sitting all prim and proper in the shopping buggy.... Truth be told, life in the James R world has slowed down recently. The shot clock doesn't seem to be working, and we've gone into the Dean Smith Four Corners Offense. Shorten the game, he who takes the last shot wins. And that's ok, the Shot Clock Repair Guys are working on this, they estimate that the clock will be functional again in a couple of weeks. No matter, I'm taking the time during the Stall Offense to scratch well below the surface, to give new meaning to the terms Pause and Linger..... Michaels is a fantastic place for Pause and Linger. If you allow yourself the time, you will be astounded by the treasures you will find here. Oh sure, most of them are still in Raw form (see pictures for the Frog and Dog without a Face), but that is the Linger part: You get to fill in the blanks. You get to be in charge, you get to determine what the next step is for each of these treasures. Maybe they will become a part of Mom's Project! After 6 years, a few swatches of Red and Green neon paint might be just what the doctor ordered! Or maybe instead of driving the hoop, you will dutifully pass the ball and then set a screen in the opposite direction, being careful not to roll towards the hoop too aggressively. But that's ok, there is another aisle holding treasures yet to be discovered. Check out that entire row of giant glasses! Not the ones you put on your nose, but the ones you fill with liquid. Great and giant empty vessels, waiting for the soul to be poured into them, to give them meaning, to give them form. To give them life. They sit on the shelf, trying not to appear too anxious to go home with you, but also striving to look interested enough that you will Pause and Linger. What takes up your spare time these days? Whatever it is, I'm sure that you can scour Michaels and find something that will make that task more enjoyable, more colorful, and more complete. Just give yourself some time and allow yourself to Pause and Linger. After all, Death takes a Holiday every now and then, why can't you do the same for a more important person in your life: You?

    They are ready for Fall.

I can count on one hand the amount of times I have been to any Michaels. Not because I don't think they offer a good selection of goods, it just not something I like to deal with. Also, they are expensive as hell, that is why you see coupons out the wazoo from this place. It's never easy to find what you need and you cannot get service out on the floor. Well on this nice sunny day I approached the outside of the store I could see they had Fall products out on the walk. Some debris was on the walk, but nothing major. Upon entering the store located just across the street from Town Center it seemed clean and well organized. Today I was forced to pick up supplies for my son's school project and decided to suck it up. So upon browsing through the store I had questions and no one was in sight. I joked with another customer that "Michaels offers everything you need, you just have to find it yourself". I tracked down what appeared to be a floor supervisor who was very nice and helpful and stocking the shelves. This seems to be the case at this place, you have to track them down, they are never proactive in assisting their customers which is really sad. On the other hand I have been loving Target's proactive approach to customer service by floor staff. Target employees may be stocking shelves, but you consistently see that they ask can I help you? You will not find this at Michaels. After around 45 minutes I found what I needed and headed to the dreaded check out. Those that know what I am talking about are ready for this. I have only been to this store a few times, but it's enough to know the long lines are legendary. This was the middle of the day on a week day and yep long line with only two cashiers. After 10 minutes they added another clerk who I ended up getting a few minutes later. I got to the register and could not help but slightly vent to the employee and she apologized sweetly and sincerely. I asked Paige if she had any in store coupons to help me out as this was expensive scrap booking stuff. Those that do this know what I mean. Paige said if you have a smart phone you can go to michaels.com with me and we will put an instant 40% coupon off. We did just that in a matter of a minute (clicked on coupons) and she scanned in a barcode and an instant $6+ came off which was sweet. I thought to myself, they just went from a 2 to a 3 because of this one employee who took the time to provide customer service. Don't know how soon I will be back, hopefully not soon However, in the past I have used framing services and have been happy. So, ya never know I might be back and I am hoping to run into Paige again.

If you have a hobby this place will probably have what you need. From arts and crafts to framing and model building. The staff is friendly and helpful.

Michaels is great for your basic arts and crafts stuff--though geared more towards the crafts. If you want serious art supplies in VB, go to Jerry's Artarama. But if you need crafting stuff, scrap-booking materials, kids' art activities or framing, Michaels is all good. It's also a cool place to buy gifts and wrapping materials. I always go there at Christmas and Halloween to check out the decor. There's a lot of that. They also do classes and activities for kids and adults. Sometimes they need more folks on the registers. I've waited in line longer than I should have on several occasions.

There were/are some outstanding local card shops, owned and operated by genuinely good people in the hobby, but THIS guy wasn't and ISN'T one of them! As a matter of fact, he is a cancer to the hobby, a festering, infected sore to the hobby that never heals! Back on Saturday, July 19, 2025, (I remember this exact date, because my granddaughter was born on Friday, July 18, 2025 and I had just attended the "757 Sports Cards Show,"which ended an hour earlier). Anyway, I walked into his shop, he had three customers, a mother/son and a guy in his early 30's, with a college-age young man behind the counter assisting them. When he got to me, I had already browsed the showcases and simply asked, "Do you all do any trading?" He replied, "Yes," as he went to retrieved his boss, this owner, who was sitting in a closet-size room, in front of a computer, who glanced to his right and literally gave me a look and sighed, as if I was about to waste his time! I had 2 two-row graded cards shoe boxes of graded cards(95% were PSA 10's). He got up, walked towards me and without even looking at one graded slab, shouted, "How much for everything?!" I giggled. because I assumed he was joking. Then, he repeated, "How much for everything?!" Which rubbed me the wrong way and at that point, I literally almost grabbed my two boxes of cards and left, as I know these types and I knew exactly where this was going, because I have been a collector in this hobby since the late 70's. Yet, I replied, "Well, I wasn't expecting this and don't have a number off the top of my head, but I'd rather you just look at the cards first." THAT rubbed him the wrong way, as he angrily ordered the young man standing to his right, both directly in front of me to, wait for it...lie each of my slabs on his counter and take pictures?!!! So, this young man is taking 20 to 25 slabs out of my boxes at a time, lying them side-by-side on his counter, snapping pics, as the owner walks away! Then he comes back out of the closet-size office to help the lady and her son, who was also trading, so I patiently waited and waited and...you get my point! So, after about 20 minutes of just standing there, he finally comes back over, all my slabs are now back in my shoe boxes, after the young man finished taking pictures of them with his iPhone. THEN, he does what he should have done in the first place, started to browse through my graded cards and then says, the most asinine, ridiculous and INSULTING thing I have heard in a long while, "Even though you have a lot of PSA 10's most of these will go in my $5.00 Slab box!" Ladies and gentlemen, BOOM! I now had 100% validation that this guy was a bona-fide SCUMBAG! Keep in mind, 95% of my slabs were PSA 10's, I had only seven PSA 9's and my other box had 35 SGC 10's even some SGC 10/10's meaning, both the card and the auto graded a SGC 10. I had not one card that was selling on eBay, Card Ladder or 130 point, for less that $25.00, with 80% of my graded cards selling between $45.00 and $140.00! I had Joe Burrow, Brock Purdy, Ja'Marr Chase, Keyonte George, Tyrese Maxey PSA 10's, numbered rookie cards, as well as James Woods, Lawrence Butler and Brett Baty PSA 10 numbered rookie autos and more. BUT, this sleazeball, dirt bag, jerk claimed they will go into his $5.00 graded slab box?! Then, I walked over to his $5.00 Graded Slab Box and he literally had eight cards in slabs I never heard of, EVER! Cards of players I have never heard of, with NOT one slab worth the material it took to encapsulate it! i gave him a stern look, almost a death-stare, doing my best to maintain my composure, because there was a kid in the store. Plus, during all this, he was devaluing my graded cards, the grading company, even the player on the card! These type of low-life scumbags in the hobby are the worst, because they "intentionally" use these unethical tactics to rip you off, at worst or low-ball you, at best! Imagine how many kids he has taken advantage of and done this to, as I have grandchildren, who are into the sports/trading cards hobby. I wouldn't want within 500 feet this guy! Now, for some reason I have to re-post this review, because it continues to get deleted, maybe because I called him, exactly what he is, a scumbag! Finally, when people like him get these type of embarrassing, bludgeoning reviews, within hours or a couple of days, pops up a review, highly praising these types, but take it as a grain of salt, as my review is true, detailed and 100% FACTUAL! I brought up my race, because people him foolishly believe we are ignorant to the hobby!

There is a 7-11 next door, but the two parking areas are not connected, so be sure to come into the one that they have. My visit here was on May 10, 2025, with my mom. My mom does a lot of yarn stuff. What brought us here was for her to check out what they had available. With other craft stores closing over the past few years, the options are getting more limited in the area. There are several cameras around as well. When we came in, we were immediately greeted by the staff. They asked if we had any questions or if we were looking for something in particular. At that point, mom said that she was just looking, so nothing specific in mind. I was also looking around with what was available here. I didn't realize there were different forms of yarn. I thought yarn was yarn. I guess that makes it a yarning achievement for me. There are several yarns that are handcrafted and made locally. As such, prices are going to be higher as well. Some of them were pretty high, but it's understandable when they are locally made. However, there were more cost-effective ones available as well. In the end, mom didn't purchase anything in this visit. Overall, this was a nice visit. The staff were friendly, and we were able to just walk around and see if we found anything. There is a large selection of yarn, both locally and from other countries, so the wide selection is good. This place is worth checking out if you're looking for yarns that you may not find elsewhere.
