My wife and I decided to try Michael's Steak Chalet for our anniversary dinner. We started with the lobster stuffed mushrooms, which were absolutely delicious and easily one of the highlights of the meal. The salad was fresh and very good as well. For our entrées, I ordered the English cut prime rib with a twice-baked potato, and my wife ordered the steak bites. My prime rib was cooked perfectly and the potato was excellent. Overall, the food was very good. My wife felt that the steak bites were overwhelmed by pepper, which took away from her enjoyment of the dish. One thing we found disappointing was the value. The meals only came with one side, and considering the prices, we felt the food was significantly overpriced for what was included. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the food. Our waitress did little beyond taking our order and bringing the check. The appetizer was delivered by another employee, the busser brought out our entrées, and he was also the one who refilled our drinks throughout the evening. While everyone was polite, we never felt like our waitress was engaged or attentive to our table. For me, great service can elevate a meal, and poor service can diminish even great food. I would rather have mediocre food with outstanding service than outstanding food with mediocre service. While we enjoyed most of what we ate, the lackluster service and poor value left a lasting impression. Because of that, we will likely not return. read more

Food was just ok, I ordered the $40 6oz beef filet and it was tough and hard to cut into, it was not a good cut of meat. We ate out on the patio and the weather was lovely and very peaceful. As we were eating, this big group of people came outside and all stood right behind our table being rude and talking very loudly for about 20 minutes. Not the best meal by far! At first we thought it was going to be a lovely evening. Hostess and Waitress were very warm and friendly. To start off the issues...We never had the appetizer or salad plates removed from the table. Never asked if we would like another cocktail and did not pickup the empty glass. No offer for a refill of any beverage. Dinner arrived and within a minute or two the waitress returned to ask how everything was. At that point we had not touched our steaks. Once we did, my Ribeye was medium, not medium-rare (and not 18 oz). My husband's Prime Rib was to be English cut, medium. It looked and tasted more like a grilled prime rib. It was dry and more med-well than medium. When the waitress returned she asked if we wanted boxes for anything. We asked her to "please inform the chef that the steaks were over cooked". We did NOT ask for a credit or replacement. Our waitress got very offended and said we should have told her sooner. I'm sure we would have, had she returned to our table. She did not ask if we would like dessert, just brought us the check. Maybe an off night for the kitchen staff and waitress...but I would not recommend going there for dinner. I'm am shocked the rating is only 3.6. We are here from Dallas for a few days of R&R and in DFW there is no shortage of some of the nations greatest steak houses. I've travelled extensively in my career through Europe, NA and Asia and I will say this place stands in the top 20 of my favorite places. The view alone was spectacular and we ate more than we normally do so had a good sampling of many dishes. Medallions as an appetizer were out of this world, Caesar salad was perfection and the meal was incredible. I know everyone touts another place in town as the best, and we were scheduled to go there but circumstances brought us to Michael's. I'd give this a solid 9/10. We walked in and the first thing we noticed was how incredibly loud it was it was giving me headache. After having water spilled on the table accidentally we decided to leave after 20 minutes due to the loudness and no one asking for our drink order. Hostess suggested downstairs and we gave that a shot had to get our own drinks then finally had a server take our order, 45 minutes later we ate! I attended a dinner here recently with a large group. Understandably, in a large group, the meal takes a long time. Bar service was very slow with two bartenders who looked up most of the drink recipes that were ordered. I ordered the steak Oscar and had high hopes, but the béarnaise sauce had a strange chemical taste. I ordered a baked potato and it was just served with butter. I had to ask for sour cream and shredded cheese (which is pretty standard for a baked potato) and was shocked and disappointed that the cheese was moldy. The food was good, however with the terrible service, not worth it. Nice ambience and good food, though pricey. I liked the escargot and scallop appetizer. First time I see that combo, though it makes sense and it enables an American like my Hubby to still enjoy the dish because he can't wrap his head around "snails". I ordered the Steak Oscar too and it was tender, with crab meat on top (first time seeing that too) which went a long way towards surf and turf theme. Sorry it's necessary to write this review regarding a well known lake ozarks steak house that is top end expensive for the area. Of the 8 in our golf weekend group 5 complained about the quality and or preparation of their meals. The staff their job but that's about as positive as I can say. The lake view at this restaurant is spectacular, and their charming patio has good tree coverage, so even on a hot day, the patio is definitely more than tolerable by 7pm. I appreciated that their prices were comparatively reasonable for upscale steaks and seafood on the lake. I also liked that this place does not have the big-chain-restaurant vibes that some of the other options do. Food-wise, our party all enjoyed their dishes except for the chicken piccata which was bland and a little dry. But the steaks and seafood dishes were good. We tried the fried lobster appetizer (not my choice) and in case you've ever wondered, if you enjoy the flavor of lobster, don't get it fried ;) fried foods all taste basically the same so no reason to pay the premium price of lobster meat if you're going to fry it. Our server was nice. Small things that could've been improved- apparently the party at our table before us had a toddler, as there was a lot of small food debris on the patio around/under us. This should be swept up in between guests to reduced bugs. I asked if I could get a French 75 as I saw one on the wine house weekend menu. I was told yes but served something that tasted like a long island tea. If a weekend drink can't be made on a Thursday, I'd rather just be told and suggested something hopefully similar to my request vs. served some random drink. read more

I could quibble about a couple of minor points here, but overall we were very impressed with Michael's and will certainly come back. It's all about the view here, and it didn't disappoint. From our table we looked directly at the Margaritaville complex, which was about 3 miles away, I'd guess. We were there for the sunset and happily, it also didn't disappoint. For the view, you pay maybe $5-10 more for entrees than a place like this normally might. We were pleased to see the rest of the menu wasn't overpriced, really. The had a nice wine list with several familiar and decent cabs under $40. We had the lobster stuffed mushrooms appetizer, which was delicious and shard both the smalled cut of prime rib and the filet mignon. They were both prepared perfectly and well-seasoned. For sides, we had a baked potato and asparagus. The house salad was quite good with house-made ranch dressing. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Just overall a great spot for a nice dinner. read more

It's so great to know that during these unprecedented times that Michael's Steak Chalet is doing so well that they don't have to do To-Go orders. They are only open 5 days a week but apparently only take out on Friday and Saturday. So this local steak restaurant is making so much money that they can't throw a a steak and potato in a box on a Sunday evening. Their website and Facebook page makes no mention of them NOT doing takeout on these days. They also have a special COVID pop up that doesn't mention not doing take out on Sundays. I was going to order about $200 of food and was staying at the Swiss Village Cabins less than 300ft away, but oh well. We were really looking forward to a good dinner from a local restaurant. This place has been very good to us in the past, but recently I've noticed a slide in the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen. Too many recent issues of incorrect orders, food that takes too long to come out of the kitchen only to be undercooked or lacking in flavor, and a staff that shows a total lack of desire to make things right. We had a 7:30 pm dinner reservation and we arrived at 6:30 pm to have a cocktail. The owner of the restaurant told us that he was having a table open up in a couple of minutes and that tables were limited. We told him we had a 7:30 pm reservation and that we did not want to be rushed and he just shrugged and said he couldn't make any promises if there would be a table available. We ended up taking the table because we did not want to have a cocktail downstairs as the ambiance was not pleasant. We ate dinner from about 6:40 pm until 9:20 pm and there were so many empty window tables. We felt like the owner was just trying to rush us in an out. The reason we booked a window table for 7:30 pm was because it is too hand prior hand, which we were right about. We were sweating the whole time. We ordered a $225 bottle of Dom Perignon and they didn't even ice it in a bucket. They left it out in the sun on an empty table next to use for About 5-10 minutes. They didn't serve it chilled. It was a bit warm. We had to ask for an ice bucket and they only put ice, they didn't even add water to the bucket for more efficient cooling. We complained and they apologized and said the waiter was new from the Netherlands and that they did not use ice over there and he was still being trained. We ordered the stuffed lobster mushrooms which were a bit hard and not very warm--room temperature. The crab cakes were good though! Our steak was ordered medium rare and it was slightly over cooked. The lobster Mac and cheese was not creamy or flavorful. It was disappointing. It was more like clumpy and greasy with a bland flavor. The asparagus were mushy and we couldn't swallow them after chewing for a good minute or two. The fries were good! I think the experience ruined it for us. We did not feel appreciated or well taken care of--but the waitress was very kind and engaging. read more

0 stars is to good! The owner is a complete jackass. We had made reservations for a party of 12. We got sat down stairs, there was live music and were sat "on the dance floor." The owner came up to our table and talking to us. When a person in our group didn't reply, he said "are you ignoring me," and the person was turning to ask where we were staying. He blow up and said "do you know who i am?" Then tried moving our table after turning the light down and talking to the waitress, other employees and customer's about our table. We choose to get up and leave because of how rude the owner was and our poor waitress didn't know what to do. The owner needs to learn professionalism and if that's how he wants to run his business he doesn't deserve a penny of our money. I wouldn't give him a penny of yours either! read more

Best restaurant around this area hands down! I have been to the the lake of the ozarks several times over the years and have always been disappointed in the quality of the restaurants until now! They have an excellent wine list paired with great service. We enjoyed the best prime rib ever! We had 11 in our party and everyone who had the prime rib loved it. Great filet as well. Ever stark was perfectly prepared. Not only do they have great food and service, but they have the best views of the lake. We will certainly return to sample more of this hidden gem soon. read more
