Is there such a thing as a Most Frequent Shopper? Well, I would be the MFS for Michaels. Don't look at my charge bill, because I never leave empty handed. This time, I bought a 3 foot bear nutcracker. He is really cute! There was so much holiday merchandise to choose from. Every where the eye could see was Christmas. Unfortunately, there was only one small table for Chanukah and none of it was on sale. That made me a little sad. Service was great. And, the lines are getting longer, so I suggest getting in there to get the selection at its finest. All the Christmas decorations were at least 25 percent off. And, you get a coupon each time you spend more than $40. I usually wouldn't redo a review so quickly, but this review has to do with the Christmas decorations. Forget Thanksgiving, boo hoo. I went here on a gig work type job. I noticed that there were several workers just standing around. It was my first time there and I asked for some help. Based on only what I think was an act of snobbery towards a gig worker, a heavy set lady with blond hair was rude to me. She said that they don't go around shopping with people and would only steer me in the right direction. She was rude to me from that moment on until I was at checkout (she made me use self check out and was abrupt with me the entire time treating me like I was stupid). What's even worse, I watched he be cordial and nice to a regular customer. I will probably never accept another job to this store or shop here on my own time. What a beautiful store! I bring a group of young adults with developmental differences to the store once a week. We are working on life skills in an inclusive environment as we work in the store. The manager (Mary), assistant manager (Debbie) and other staff (Sandy & Mikeala& others) have been welcoming to us & really appreciate the work we are doing. They are always willing to answer our questions. Their spirit of inclusivity makes me realize how much good there is in our world. Not only did she help us pick out bundles and colors, she also made sure we got the bats bag for our buck. As a passionate crafter, crocheter, scrap booking enthusiast and jewelry maker, I should never enter a craft store without a shopping list. Otherwise, I will just walk around wanting all the sale items. It was easier to leave the store without a lot of items since there are only one or two shopping carts and and they seem dedicated to employees using them to put away inventory. They didn't have shopping baskets. I just don't understand how a store that fuels crafting addictions would not want to make it easy to pile items into a cart. Several aisles were blocked with boxes of merchandise waiting to be put away. After walking around with breakable items in my hands, I finally asked an employee for a shopping cart. She brought one from a hidden area and I was grateful. In addition to not having shopping carts, Michaels is shifting to self check out. There were a few glitches with prices and I would have saved time getting in the longer line with an employee instead of sorting out things at the self checkout. I was driving home and this location was on the way. I would not seek out this location. At least there are still some Virginia stores with lots of shopping carts and more employees on the floor. read more

I'm very disappointed with the customer service at this Michaels location. Many items throughout the store are not priced, which makes shopping frustrating. Instead of easily checking prices on the shelf, you often have to carry the item all the way to the front--only to struggle to find a cashier available to help. When I did finally ask for assistance, the cashier was rude and dismissive, offering an attitude that made me feel unwelcome. The aggressive tone and lack of basic customer service left a very negative impression and honestly made me reconsider shopping here in the future. This store would benefit greatly from clearly pricing their products and providing staff who are willing to help customers respectfully. At this point, I'm not sure I'll be returning. read more

This is the Hellscape Michaels. I did an online order for pickup. I got foam boards that looked like they had been used, a cheaper version of the X-Acto knife I ordered (with no adjustment in the price), and just overall absolutely no concern for ensuring that the selections matched what I ordered. I specifically stated no substitutions for my order, and clearly that was ignored. Now, I'm trying to work on a project for class and need to find a different store to replace the items I clearly already paid for. Customer service is below par as well. I needed a dowel rod for a project at home. I am disabled so I called to make sure they had it before coming over here. Lindsay checked to make sure they had it and told me which aisle would be in. I came here. I got the rod. It turns out that it was not correctly priced. They changed the price of the register to the lower price that I saw in the store. I frequent this location when it comes to the Michael's in the area. They are well stocked and most organized of the ones I've shopped. Most recent trip, I was looking for beads and jewelry findings that were on sale. They had plenty of variety in store! Signage clearly marked items/brands on sale. There are plenty of staff in the store walking around so it's easy to find someone for assistance. This Michael's location is in the corner of a busy shopping center that has a Bed, Bath and Beyond and Aldi's. Parking is often a bit crazed with drivers that are in a rush. I tend to park further away to avoid the crunch. read more

I stopped into this store this morning because I had an early appointment nearby and they open at 9 am. After finding the items I wanted, I proceeded to the checkout. All of the cashier stations were recently replaced with self checkout machines. I have a teacher discount so I asked for help. Even the store associates were not sure if that could be done on a self checkout machine. It turned out that it was included. However, having to scan my own large items (picture frames) was not fun. I will not be returning to this location. Many shoppers are using Amazon and other online retailers because of the ease of shopping that way. I prefer to visit brick and mortar stores when I can. However, if there is no or minimal customer service in the physical store, there is no advantage to patronize them. I think it is a mistake. Having one or two self checkouts for people with small items who are in a hurry is fine. Reconfiguring the whole checkout area to include a whole line of those stations is misguided. read more

I don't have complaints about the store itself or the items. But I've never been so belittled by any employee like this so I just wanted to give feedback and a warning to others.. I ordered online. Because the curbside link wasn't working for me, I went inside to pick it up. I took 5 seconds to read the different signs there - one asking me to press a button if I was picking up, another saying I could do a self-service online pickup. I decided to just do self-service so I started looking at the letters. Literally 5 seconds later, an employee asked if I needed help and asked for my last name. I told her and she said "it was right here" in front of me with a belittling tone. I mentioned that I was trying to figure out if it was listed by my first name or last name (for example, Panera does it by first name). I think she misheard and thought I said I couldn't find my name because she said in the most sarcastic sing-songy voice "oh yeah I know. It's ALPHABETIZED so I can see why that was so hard." I'm not the kind of person to pick a fight but I was so close to saying "excuse me?" out loud because of how shocked I was... but refrained and walked out. That was the most sarcastic, rude encounter I've ever had and it honestly put me in a pretty bad mood as I felt so belittled. I was literally inside for a total of 30 seconds so it's not like I was having an especially hard time finding my order or anything and even if I was, that was no way to speak to anyone let alone a customer... I'm in customer support myself and talk to many people who need help for seemingly "simple" things. I have never made (and hope I never will make) anyone feel as stupid as the way she made me feel... If that lady couldn't find it in her control to keep comments like that to herself I don't think she should be in retail or customer service. read more

11/21/21 Ahhh Michaels, I saw on my phone Michael's might have beads and stones I could use to make bracelets and necklaces with. I have been thinking about upgrading my arrowhead necklace with some amythest stones. I now realize I will need to get some white, black or emerald green spacer beads for my necklace. The jurory is still out on this decision. I was shown to the beading area where I spent time finding nothing I wanted, until I found beads in unexpected areas. The beads turned out to be amythest and it was the last one in the hole size I needed for my necklace. In my excitement, I forgot about space beads. Since tomorrow is Thanksgiving, I might have to go look at spacer beads at another Michael's store today. Today is 11/24/21 and I am writing my experience from this past Sunday at the Rockville Maryland store. I was happy to find what I needed and will be working on my necklace later on tonight. This is one of my favorite Michaels in the area. Everytime I go to this Michaels it's clean for the most part. I can easily find the area in the store for the item I'm looking for on that trip. If they have it in stock at that moment than great. If not I can usually find a replacement. Or an Associate is always willing to assist me in finding out when the item may be in. Like the other Michaels that I favorite in the area... The staff here is always friendly, professional and helpful. To me, that speaks of the Store Manager hiring the best associates to work with their customers. As well as the associates understanding that when they step on the sells floor the top priority is great customer service. I'm very disappointed with my visit to Michaels. I went on a Friday after work. I made it a point to order everything on-line in advance so I could quickly get in and out. I had planned a family paint night so I ordered brushes, canvases, paint trays and paint. The easels weren't in stock so I knew I had to get those upon arrival. I have several complaints. I placed my on line order around 4. They said I would be contacted once my order was ready. I never received an email or text. I arrived around 6:30. I looked for the easels first. They had a very poor selection but to no fault of there own. Next, I went to the counter to retrieve my order. She went and got me the items them mumbled something, left and come with something for me to sign. The paint was missing from the order. I asked about it and she said it was out of stock. She did not mention this when giving me my items. It did not show this on line nor did the store call and notify me that they didn't have my complete order. It would have definitely saved me a trip. In any event, I was willing to go look at the other paint available. I asked her where it was located. She gave me an aisle number and proceeded to put the items that could fit in a bag and told me they didn't have a bag for the canvases. She did not offer to show what was available. She didn't offer to keep the items at the desk while I looked for the paint. She was very disinterested and just not helpful. Needless to say I returned all items and will not be visiting this michaels again. read more

I went to this store thinking it would be a quick and easy stop. I was totally wrong. I'm trying to also be considerate of the whole situation with covid and reopening and I'm sure possibly they may be facing being understaffed... that said. I went to this store and sheesh. I'm not expecting everything to be perfect but the whole store just feels disorganized, chaotic and fend for yourself-ish type atmosphere. Again I'm not trying to be hard on anyone. But finding help while you are in the store... nearly impossible... I was so lost trying to find things in the store I just made several laps trying to get aquatinted with where things may be. I was in the store at least 20-25 minutes. Not a single employee in sight. Aside from the registers... need some paint? It's locked in a cage. With a button on it to call for assistance... tried that. Waited like 5-10minutes... No one... ok cool. I get it people are busy. Maybe the button doesn't work actually after all and no one knows I need help... no problem.... maybe I'll find someone on my own who works here to help me..... but where? I guess I could go get in line to check out and then when I need to pay I can ask them to help me get the can of locked away paint and make everyone else wait.. Again not trying to be rude. But this store just felt so poorly organized, kept and supervised. Just being in there felt stressful.. Michael's in downtown silver spring is on point compared to this place. Furthermore I seemed to find that this store does not have many of the things in stock that they claim to have online. Maybe I caught them on a bad day/week/month. It would just be nice if the store is as disorganized and confusing as it is I didn't have to force someone to help me.. I mean is there no manager on duty or what? The only employees I saw are on registers only. If you need one or two items you are positive the store will carry go for it. But if you need a few things. Not only did I receive the wrong size wreaths but several arrived damaged. Repeated calls to the company have been answered with "Items cannot be returned." Abysmal. I waited in line today at the Framing Service section like everyone else. Place is a bit warm but I'm patient. People in front of me get assisted. It's my turn and some ass walks right in from the side and the assistant there (one of three) starts helping him. Neither the other customer nor the assistant will look at me the whole time, if eyes were lasers I would've burned holes in them both. At some point I got tired of it and left. Seriously, is there a line or not? Or should I be an ass like the other guy and push right in ahead of everyone else like they don't exist? I came here to see if I could find stand alone envelopes for Greeting Cards, which I did not. & happily got sidetracked in the Framing Department looking for Matting supplies. Well I found a galore of them & with Michael's frequent specials & coupons I loaded up. Not to mention downloading the app while in store shopping. It wasn't until I made my way to checkout, that the marvelous Maxamillian creatively schooled me on how I could apply my discounts. I opted to shop in moderation & online to receive the best usage out of my coupons & new found Rewards app. Honestly, the sales throughout the store were huge, so it's a win-win shopping & saving extra money. Even for the pre-holiday rush, the store was in good order, staff members were present on the floor & inventory was of abundance. The Michael's App is user friendly, with ease location for saved coupons with letting you know what isle your item is located in. & when scanning your Rewards card, you seem to get a coupon for the item purchased...makes sense to entice you back to a good place for arts & crafts without breaking your hobby bank. Over the past three days I have gone to three separate Michaels in order to locate a particular ornament. I've decided to review each location, since each location is vastly different from the other. Rockville Pike- nice enough, but forgettable. For some reason I am always harder on my reviews for stores in that area. I think it's because it's a nice area, so I naturally expect more. There's nothing wrong per se with this store, just surprisingly not the location I'd go to if I need something. With that being said I got my tree, ornaments and a few other Christmas nonessentials from this spot. Aspen Hill- not a huge fan of the Aspen Hill area, but this location was by far my favorite. Well stocked, a lot more Christmas decor and the biggest of the three. If I ever get back into crafting this will be my go to location. I walked out with a cute little basket that I don't nee Colesville Road- the smallest of the three, but the closest to me and conveniently placed inside the Ellsworth Place mall, which I shop at frequently. I lucked up and was one of the first 50 shoppers and got a $10 gift card that I promptly used. Like I said, it's small, so not as much in terms of selection, but I would go to this spot for something basic like glue or scissors. I didn't find the ornament I was looking for, so after three stores I have given up my quest. read more

I dropped off two pictures in the framing department with the understanding they were behind and it would take a few weeks, which was fine. About 4 weeks later I received a call saying my pictures were ready, only to go there and wait about 15 minutes and to finally be told, "Sorry, they actually aren't ready, come back in a few weeks." A few more weeks pass - about 8 weeks total - and I call and am told they can't handle the request because they are behind. How could they not determine they were that behind earlier and just give me my pictures back at 4 weeks. Needless to say, we just went to pick the pictures up and they told us to come back in an hour because they cannot find them. I mean...What kind of backwards department are they running. A short list of my favorite things at this store: -The 'ribbon boutique' - small glass apothecary jars, which I use for holding nails, buttons, safety pins - little animals made of felt and plywood (these are going to be my xmas cards this year - just write on the wooden back) - 80 million different kinds of glue and varnish - wooden, plastic, and metal stamps - amazingly realistic fake flowers (what can I say, I kill everything but orchids. The irony is not lost on me) - the ENORMOUS $1 rack. Oh Michael's, you are such a great deal. If you were a man, I would date you. read more

Which is why Michael's is perfect for me. There's ample parking (bonus: Petsmart next door always has adorable pups coming and going so you're almost always guaranteed to see something cute!), their prices are reasonable and the people are nice. Granted they're not the most craft-oriented people on the planet so if you're looking for product recommendations, you may be SOL. However, if you're crafty this place is for you. Ribbons, scrapbooking materials and crafts galore! This place is also great for kids' projects since they have an overabundance of markers, crayons, craft paper and paints. This review is for the framing department only - I've never had an issue with the rest of the store. I went in today to see about a custom cut mat for a print I bought - it's an odd size, and I bought a frame that would work if I could find a mat cut to fit. I had looked online and seen custom cut mats (really nice mats, too) for anywhere from $10-25, so I was expecting somewhere in that ballpark from Michael's, and I figured that paying a few dollars more to avoid the online ordering wait would be worth it. And I had a coupon for 50% off all custom framing, as well as a 50% off any item not on sale, so I figured I'd be able to get a reasonably priced mat. Wishful thinking. I asked the (very nice) man working at the framing counter if he could quote me on a custom cut mat. I asked for the most affordable (read: cheapest) mat, in a plain white. And the outer dimensions of the mat were standard, it was just the inside that needed to be custom cut. He types in the dimensions and clucks his tongue a few times, and then turns the computer monitor screen so I can see it - and says, "That will be $59.99." WHAT?! I think my jaw literally hit my chest. I asked him if I could use one of the coupons, and he said, no, no coupons could be used unless I was buying an actual FRAME, that mats didn't qualify for ANY coupon. I thanked him and walked away. WTF?! Who charges $59.99 for a mat? It's a freaking piece of cardboard! I got a beautiful custom cut mat online for about $15 including shipping, and my framed print looks awesome. I absolutely cannot fathom how Michael's can justify charging $60 for a piece of cardboard. I guess because some people are willing to pay? I don't know. Aside from the framing department, the store is fine (although I think AC Moore down the Pike has a better selection), but I had to get this off my chest - their framing department is a joke. read more

THIS PLACE HAS EVERYTHING. Except for pizza. But no one ever looks for pizza in a craft store. I went in looking for glue sticks. Because you can never have enough glue. And I ended up with iron-on patches, greeting cards, glittery butterfly...things, LOTS OF STRING, and a foam sphere (I have yet to decide what to do with it). I was so overwhelmed, I forgot to buy glue sticks. My only complaint was that the aisles were rather narrow and I kept on dodging fellow customers. (Fyi: This review is about the frame shop. I've had a good experience with the rest of the store.) I'm giving the frame shop one star. I could not be less satisfied with the quality of the product I ended up with. Short explanation: The people behind the counter were friendly, respectful, and polite. I suspect the issues I encountered were the result of Michael's policy and not any faults of their own - they seem like perfectly lovely people and I don't want to get them in trouble. With that being said, here are my issues: They took far, far too long to explain the frame options. I just asked for two plain white frames for two artworks, which I did not think was that complicated of an issue, but between their glitchy, slow computer system and how incredibly inefficiently they explained everything, it took them FORTY-FIVE MINUTES to show me two different options. By then I was exhausted and just wanted to get the whole thing over with, go get some water, and sit down, so I took what they offered even though I didn't like it. The frames I ended up with, I felt, were really ugly (who knows how long I would have had to wait if I'd asked for an alternative), unbelievably expensive for the size and style, and do not seem good quality at all (one of the paintings came detached and is now loose inside the glass). Further details: I also felt like they offered me a much more expensive, elaborate option than necessary for the larger of the two artworks I wanted framed. I told them I just wanted a plain frame that would show the cool 'raw' edge of the paper my print was printed on (I am attaching a photo of the kind of effect I am talking about. I have seen it done many times before, so I didn't think it was that much of a tall order). They told me the only way this could be achieved was by having not one, not two, but three separate mattings stacked on top of each other (the central one of which, incidentally, was the same color as the paper, so in the end the edge didn't show after all...), one of which was colored even though I didn't want that, and some kind of edge trimming thing (even though that wasn't in contact with the edge of the print at all, so I don't see why there was a need for it), which became very expensive, making the frame like 150% larger than it needed to be, and was not what I was after at all. I found the effect very offputting and strange-looking. I was after a cool, modern, streamlined look and ended up with something clunky, bulky and old-fashioned. I also did not want to spend over 300 dollars (which is what it came to with those three different mattings) to frame a medium-sized print. But again, I had spent so long standing there waiting after a long day at work (there was no option to sit, even though there were several people waiting in line for a very long time - what do people with mobility issues do?) that I felt like I had to just cut my losses and take what they'd offered so I could get the heck out of there and not waste the rest of my evening. They should have just been up-front with me that they couldn't achieve what I was after, instead of spending half an hour dragging out the explanation of this other frame style they had in mind, until I just caved in out of sheer exhaustion. Also, for some reason, there's this weird thing with their computer where when they drew up the total price estimate based on frame size and style, it gives you an estimate that's like 600% too high, then when they hit refresh it displays again with the real price. (E.g. the first frame originally rang up at a thousand dollars, then when they hit 'recalculate' or something - I didn't really understand what the glitch was - it then came up at 300.) It one hundred per cent felt like a tactic to make the final price not seem so absurd. Sketchy. And the piece de resistance: When I brought the print and its $300+ frame home and unwrapped it, what did I find? The print had come unstuck and was bouncing around loose inside the glass. And they had stuck it onto the back matting with what appeared to be little glue dots (maybe that's standard practice, but regardless, I could have just bought a $6 pack of glue dots and mounted it myself. And I don't think it is best practice on their part, considering the print came unstuck!) That was the last straw for me. Absolutely ridiculous. Folks, don't waste your money.
