What I like about Michael's is a place of wonderments. All sorts of hobbies are possible. It has classes and workshops for all ages. As others have mentioned, it has limited selection of offerings. General store, if you will. I don't fault it as a brick mortar can only carry so much, rest can be found on online. tried to return photo album that was wrong size and because it was on clearance they would not exchange or refund. The right size album, also on clearance was $2 more and I just wanted to swap them but manager wouldn't budge on that even though I shop there all the time. Told him to keep his album and won't return to shop there anymore. read more

I had a very positive experience at this location, I was greeted by a young man at the front, offered assistance and I was guided to my item. The store looked clean despite being busy. This store is quite old and dreary. Not as bright as most of the other locations are. Lots of empty shelves and not huge selections of goods. Customer service was so so. When I asked about specific products, the one woman just pointed in the general direction I had just came from ( and had not been able to locate ) She was zero help, so I went back and finally found it myself. Most of the items were over priced - but none so bad as the sticker section. The EXACT same stickers are 1.25 at the Dollar tree - same brand, same ones. Here they were priced 7.99 - 11.99 I kid you not. Not just some of them -all of them. It was ridiculous. ( see photos ) Finally, when I went to pay, there were a lot more cheap dollar store type items for overly inflated prices. ( see photos ) Also, the online coupon they give out is now for only 30% off one item. It has always been 50% off. Then to top it all off - they do not accept Apple Pay ! Which is all I had with me. Arts and crafts store has a little of everything but missing a little of everything. What I mean by that is that if you are looking for general items, you'll probably find it. But, when I am looking for art (painting) supplies, I am better off going to an art specialist like Opus. Michaels is more for the hobbyist, not the professional. So, while they have the products to serve probably 95% of the customer base, you might not always find what you need there. For example, they sell a lot of canvasses for paintings. But, they only have rectangular canvasses in the more popular sizes. So, if you want a square canvas, a really long canvas or a thicker canvas, you are out of luck. read more

Wow I used to come here weekly when my kids were younger and get something fun with the 40% off coupon. I hadn't been in for. A couple of years. Walked and it looks like it's going out of business. Half the walls are empty and there are just a few of each item on display if not just empty spots with nothing. Came in time get markers that were on the website but no they didn't have them and most the other art supplies just has tags to take to the counter to get them. No chance to look at them or compare. No thank you. Changed my mind and went to the scrapbook section where I spent a long time selecting and expensive photo album as a gift. Took it to the counter which is all now self serve of course....scanned my item and then the coupon from my app. It said the coupon didn't apply to the item I was purchasing. Clerk said something about it's an Every day value item you can't use the coupon. Well it seemed quite expensive to me. No "value" there. I asked how I would know that and so basically I am supposed to know what an every day value item is and I'm supposed to blow my coupon up100x to read exclusions and try to figure that out. In all my years, Michaels coupons were always a good deal, were clear and had few exclusions. I have never been told I couldn't use it. This is not a well managed company. 132 stores across Canada and their app isn't available in our country. When you purchase items from any store, they outsource the shipping to Purolator. They say it takes 3 days for processing and another 3 days for shipping. The store Unordered from is 45 minutes away from my home. I recieved a text an hour later stating my order has been shipped! It took 6 days to arrive. Absolutely terrible management. Nothing takes 6 days!!! read more

I just picked up a painting that I had framed at this Michaels location, and I felt compelled to write a review for what was honestly one of the very best, most sincere, and truly moving customer service experiences I have had in recent memory. I was helped from start to finish by the expert Laurel, who guided me in selecting both frame and matting for a special painting of the endangered New Zealand storm petrel for my ornithologist partner. It turned out perfectly - understated, with just the right amount of matting showing for the painting to stand out. This alone would have been reason enough to come back again and again. However, during our first exchange we got to talking about how I was home caring for my father, who is sick with cancer, and she stopped, looked at me and really connected with me on this, sharing that she too had been in this difficult position, and she knew how it felt. It was real empathy, and it was just so unexpected and lovely. I picked up my painting today, and in a strange twist of fate we realized that my Dad had dropped off his own painting for framing ages ago and forgotten to pick it up! His memory is suffering due to his illness, and when I mentioned this, she remembered me right away. It was so nice to reconnect. I left today with two beautifully framed paintings, and a very warm feeling. Thank-you Laurel, Michaels is lucky to have you. read more

I love michaels and I mean who doesn't. Okay staffs but their are a couple less friendly ones but still gets the job done. Lots of options and prices are reasonable although there are certain products that are quite pricey for what it offers. They do have semi high ends and good quality art supplies but there are much better stores to get real artist supplies it's more for crafts and art homework rather than portfolio or real masterpiece. Overwhelming. Overpriced. Overindulge. Overcoupon (is that a word? It should be with some of the customer I've seen here...) Over it. If you want to pay more for a lot of stuff that you can find at Walmart, Staples, Target, etc., then visit Michaels. And, maybe it is because I am not super crafty, but the sections in this store make about ZERO sense to me, as do the way the aisles are setup. Plus, I asked for help finding glue sticks (the ones for glue guns) and low and behold they are not kept with the other glue. Why? Beats me! Then you get in line and wait, and wait, and wait for the people in front of you to use all 47 of their coupons. There must be a more streamlined process than what they currently do. Michaels? This Michaels is located in a somewhat busy mall, with horrible entrance/parking. As with all Michaels, they have really nice selection of anything related to crafts, but they are very very pricey. Unless you are using those 40% off coupons (which I think you can use for only one item) most of the items in the store are just really expensive (the 40% coupon brings it down to a "that's what it should cost about.. not cheap but fair" price) I wish they'd reduce their seasonal stuff (which all other stores carry) and focus more on the special niche stuff that they actually are supposed to be about (e.g.: instead of carrying Christmas trees, which are more expensive than other stores to begin with, why not try to carry more Christmas-themed cupcake/cake molds or other decorations that don't overlap as much with gazillion other stores?) This is not a place you go to when you are trying to score a bargain. It is a place that you go to when you absolutely need something related to crafts and could not find it in superstore/walmart/zellers/dollar store/other places... btw, Daiso in Richmond has a lot of craft related stuff, and so does the Dollar store @ Coquitlam Centre. Try those places first if you are not super picky. But Michaels is the place to go to if you are looking for the top of the line stuff, at top of the line prices. read more

I came to this location after I wiped my local Michaels out of black rit dye. This location is older, smaller, and a little cramped. Some of the aisles are much narrower than an average aisle and taller which makes me a little skittish LOL. We waited in a big line up while only two check outs were open, wished it was a bit faster for the 10+ of us waiting in line. Easy parking, and organized just too small in my opinion. read more

I was so impressed by my experience with the store associates. Chriss helped me in the cross stitch section, she was patient, kind, knowledgeable and enthusiastic she went above and beyond to help me and even took the time to teach me a few things. To top it off the cashier was great too Aiya was also very pleasant and fun. She made me feel very comfortable and helped me with a smile, I absolutely loved my experience at Michaels I wish all sales associates were just like them! I used to come to this michaels for all my basic craft needs until I had a horrible experience thanks to a very rude employee with a lip ring. I was looking for a specific kind of paint and instead of helping me, she pointed to the wrong isle and left it at that. I reproached the woman after not being able to find what I was looking for and instead of walking down isles with me to help, she got defensive and angry with me... I continued being polite and specific on what I was looking for but she basically told me they don't have it and to look somewhere else. I later found the paint in a different isle with the help of my friend. I will not be returning and hope that the management has more training lined up for this employee as she is very unpleasant. read more

For a one stop craft shop it serves it's purpose when I'm in a pinch, but honestly my biggest problem with the place is it seems consistently understaffed. It's usually always hard to find someone to ask a question and the inevitable lineup at the cashier is typically less than efficient. It would be nice if they could hire more staff. read more

Like everyone else, I find this store pretty pricey. The one thing I do go back for again and again is their silk flower arrangements. Their artist, Joanne, is fantastic and her arrangements are usually reasonably priced (plus they go on sale often). I have several of her pieces in my home and have given several more as gifts. Want something in particular in a silk arrangement? Just ask her. She'll make it to order. I once brought her a bunch of wisteria, fern fronds, and a macrame hanger and asked her to makes something pretty. The result is hanging in my bedroom and I still love it 5 years later. As for crafting supplies and framing, I know they're expensive but they're often better quality than you can get at WalMart or other department stores. I guess it depends how important your project is to you. Personally, my only real irritation is that the line-ups can be long and slow-moving some days. Other days/times, they're fine. I've always liked Michaels until today. But interacting with a staff ruined my time there today. I asked if there was the same one for an item because it was a bit dirty and seemed scratched, but this old female staff snorted and made a face, and then suggested finding another one in a more expensive section. Then, she said "you're welcome" asking me to say "thank you." She was rude, arrogant, and far from helpful. It was such a terrible experience. Don't bother to ask a staff to help you. read more
