Had the BEST experience with their framing team! I had a very out-of-the-box idea for an iridescent frame and unfortunately they didn't have any in stock or to order. Christie suggested wrapping the frame with iridescent wrapping (sold at the store). I cannot possibly love this more! I visited Michael's off of 72nd to check on prices to display an award plate. The store was quiet with only 4 people in the store, including me. I forgot to bring in a face mask but it seemed no one noticed or said anything. I checked prices just to compare with Hobby Lobby and decided not to purchase anything until I looked at styles of other mini-stands available elsewhere. The parking lot was not crowded and there wasn't a strong employee presence when walking through the store. Overall, clean store to get art or display items in midtown. read more

I received a delivery order from them today--instead of the six Level 1 canvases I ordered, they opened a cheap super value pack and gave me six of those. Three aren't even shrink-wrapped. This is the second time they've done something like this. I gave them a second chance and I regret it. I spent over $30 on canvases and received $6.50 worth of them. And I have to go there to get my money back--I can't go to another Michaels because the other stores in town aren't going to accept half a dozen super value canvases for exchange or refund (the store on 72nd told me that *last* time). This is a very convenient location next to Big Lots and PetSmart near 72nd & Dodge. I don't have kids or do a lot of arts & crafts these days but I do pop in occasionally to look at their jigsaw puzzle selection which can be hit or miss (I'm picky about my puzzles that way). When they have one that I like, I'm always glad to get it using one of their 40% off coupons which can be found online or on the receipt of a previous purchase. They do have a large selection of beautiful storage boxes in various sizes. Also, they frequently have fantastic deals on their over-the-counter art, poster and picture frames. This would be a good place to pick out a gift for a child or teen and there's always a plethora of things to catch your eye near the checkouts. Last time I was there I walked away with a soft dog-shaped pillow that I didn't need but love. Good place to find seasonal and bridal items also. The only thing I don't like about this store is the very ill-placed Dunkin' Donuts in the parking lot that makes it difficult to get in and out (but that's not their fault). read more

Disappointed. I had some pictures framed here a year ago and had good customer service. I went in last week, I went on a Saturday about 4:45. I waited about about ten minutes before someone came to help me. The person that tried to help me was friendly, but not trained in the framing department and couldn't figure out the computer system. He told me that the professional framer was on his lunch break and would be back in about fifteen minutes if I wanted to wait. I told them no problem and that I could come back tomorrow. So on Sunday, I went in between 11:00 and 11:30, thinking someone would definitely be there to help me. I waited again for about ten to fifteen minutes. I finally found a clerk and they told me that the professional framer wasn't here today.... Okay. I ended up going to Mangelson's and had a good experience. It's too bad, they did a great job on the previous two pictures, plus I get a teacher discount which makes Michael's ideal for me. Makes me wonder if the other location on 144th and Maple is any better. read more

This is where I go to when I want to buy something I'd expect to find at a giant arts and crafts store but fail. I went in looking for some polyester-friendly fabric dye. They only had the kind for cotton, etc. Fine. Whatever Michaels. Still, for some odd reason, I ended up impulse purchasing three bandanas. Apparently I'm collecting bandanas now. Thanks Michaels. When I was all ready to go, the cashier asked if I had found what I needed. I said no. She didn't respond (or care -- and why should she?). Then she politely asked for my email, because, well that's what corporate is having all the cashiers at Michaels do these days. I declined to share my email. Then a 3 foot long receipt and my three dinky rags were handed to me in a giant plastic bag. They could probably save a lot of money by cutting back on paper and plastic and in turn give all the cashiers a raise -- but why would they ever do that? So what did I learn? There's a reason all the big box retailers are dying off -- they never have what you're looking for. I should've just just ordered my fabric dye off of Amazon for $3 in first place. My wife needed to stop by here a couple days ago when we were out running errands on a Sunday. Everything was clean and organized and easy to find. I didn't really see any sales associates in the aisle's but its possible that they were all busy helping other customers. After we found what we needed, we went up to the registers and there was surprisingly a long line, but the line moved really fast and my wife and I were in and out in about 10 minutes. Overall, its a great place to get the craftsy stuff and I think we'll be coming back. read more

I just picked up an art piece that I got framed from here and one of the managers/head of the framing department, Amy, helped me with picking out the frame, mat etc. She was extremely helpful and knowledgable about what she recommended and what her true options were. She showed me a bunch of different mats that I normally wouldn't have picked out, but after looking at them with the actual art piece, her suggestions were great. You could tell she had been doing this for a while and knew what mats and frames worked with the different pieces. Even though we spend a decent amount of time playing with each option, she didn't rush me on making a decision and made sure that the piece of art with the frame was perfect. The price was more than fair especially since I was on a budget. She made sure that I stayed within my price range and steered me away from more expensive options. From my experience with Amy, I'd rate this Michaels a 5; however, I felt that this store might be understaffed, making it difficult to find help when looking at other items. Overall, if you are going to get something framed (big or small), I recommend this Michaels and to talk to Amy because she made all the difference. Hope this helps! read more

This is a great place to get fun creative ideas. There is always a great sale or coupon. Sometimes I struggle to find staff around to help out, but most areas are pretty self-sufficient. Lots of room unlike some of the other Michael's - so you aren't crowded if trying to get up and down the aisles. read more

I am a regular customer. The only down fall about the store is about the coupon. They have a good customer service staff but when it comes to their stupid policy about coupons you can not even use 2 different coupons for separate transactions so you can save gas and time. They want you to come another day to use your coupon. I know it's a one coupon per day but these coupon you are using it totally different from the other coupons. So instead of saving gas and time they want you to come by every freaking day or time. How do you help your customer? Who wants to go to the store for one item so I could use my coupon and come by another day again and use a coupon again before it expires. That's isn't helpful for your customers Michaels. read more

I give them one star for store being open on posted hours, otherwise I would not give them a rating at all. I have made purchases in the store before and have always found the employees to be helpful and friendly. My grievance, however, is with the framing department and the store manager. I recently had a coupon for 50% off framing at Michaels. Several years ago I had purchased online an inexpensive floral print that I had kept in an architect's tube in my closet until the time I decided to frame. With coupon, the framing and single matting came to $269. My point is that just because you have a coupon, don't be mislead into thinking you are going to get a fantastic deal. I met with the person that does the framing, and mat, frame, glass were chosen with payment made at time of order. 2 weeks later I received a call that there was a scratch on the frame and they wanted to know how to proceed. I went to the store, spoke with the manager, and he gave me options as to what could be done. He was very nice and said that he had recently come to this store from another, and that he wasn't comfortable sending out something that wasn't of high quality workmanship, so I opted to leave print and they would repair. ( in all honesty, I could barely see the scratch on the top of the frame). A week later I picked up, brought home and placed on an easel. I began noticing bubbling along perimeter beneath the print where it had been affixed to a backing that had been recommended by framer. Bubbling became worse, was now all over beneath print, so I returned to store for recommendations. Framer was not in at that time, so left print with a female employee who took only my name. 2 days later I had heard nothing and stopped in to see what was happening. Promised a phone call, never happened, returned a week later and talked to the same manager that had previously been nice to me, yet this time was a jerk and full of excuses and inconsistencies why this looked the way it did , and returned home with a framed print full of bubbles that he claims had been fixed. So much for Quality Control, Mr. Manager. Everyone, do yourself a favor, go to Hobby Lobby. They are comparable in price, yet I have had prints framed and double-matted beautifully there. Or throw some more money at it and go to a framing store. read more
