Okay...despite having grown up in Omaha for the most part, I cannot believe I had never been to Mangelsen's before and neither could my husband! He brought me here recently and I was blown away by how much bigger the store was than I was anticipating and how much they offered! As soon as we walked through the door, we were greeted by a staff member and then my husband steered me toward the free popcorn. Alright, fine - twist my arm, I guess I'll have some popcorn. It was freshly popped, warm, and very buttery! There was also a table of all kinds of seasonings/powders for you to dress up your popcorn however you'd like. With our popcorn in hand, we walked around the store and focused on seeing the Halloween decorations and a little bit of the Christmas decor as well. There is truly something here for everyone. There's even a jigsaw puzzle corner with signs that encourage you to bring old puzzles back for a 30% off on a new one. Coming from a puzzle family, this definitely caught my eye. We ended up getting a cute Halloween decoration and some baking supples (because, yes, they even have that!). It seemed like a lot of the items were for sale and the pricing for most things was very good! The Yelp check-in offer also sweetens the pot (but note it's ONLY for non-sale items). Our cashier didn't seem familiar with the Yelp offer, but ultimately was able to apply the coupon for us and was very nice about it. Looking forward to my next trip already!

Stepping into Mangelsen's is like stepping into a play ground of creative juices at the ready for you. Whether you're putting together a Halloween costume, baking a cake, painting a blank canvas, or just looking around for the perfect gift for someone, Mangelsen's has almost anything you can think of. I first came here with my sister years ago and loved that you can snack on free popcorn from their popcorn maker as you're walking about the store. I love the family feel throughout the store and that they are locally and family owned. Supporting small family businesses is a soft spot for me and I'll do my best to seek these businesses out when I can. Lately, I've had a few great experiences at Mangelsen's. Last year, my boyfriend and I took a look at their picture frames in hopes of framing some of our posters in the future. They had a great selection of colors and textures you could choose from. We also found a three canvas painting he ended up buying of a moon over the ocean that was for sale. Fast forward to my birthday and I opened up my Lilo & Stitch poster that was custom framed at Mangelsen's! The colors matching and complimenting the colors in the poster. It turned out great! On that particular trip we found out they offer classes in their back room. He ended up signing us up for a Macrame plant hanger class for us during Christmas for this past weekend. It was such a fun class! Our teacher was helpful, friendly, and easy going. The knots we needed to learn were a little tricky at first but once you got them down it became easy. Our plant hangers turned out great and we hope to take more classes soon! Be sure to check out this family owned gem of a place for any crafting, decorative, or costume needs! Mangelsen's is the place to go!

One of my favorite craft stores to go to, especially when I'm looking for something "different" from the typical big box stores in the area. I also love the fact that they give a military discount.

Just an incredibly kind thing to do. The store is gorgeous, with great merchandise. Fantastic collection of mid-century vintage pieces, as well as new modern furniture and accessories. Lovely handmade cards and local merchandise too. I'll certainly be back!

I LOVE that they are dog friendly, and I could bring along my lil dood after visiting Three Dog Bakery down the street. The staff member working that day was friendly, obviously loved dogs, and was eager to answer any questions I had about the store or the items inside. They have plenty of furniture (mostly living room/dining room), home decor, and also "knick knacks" which I would categorize as things like stationary, cards, coffee table items, mason jar sippy cups etc. They also have a small catus/succulent/air plant station where you can purchase plants and make your own design piece ala carte. I thought that was really cute, and purchased a few plants to replaces some dying ones in my home. Overall, this store has a very urban, city, "ikea" feel, and I am totally digging it. I do think the price tags for the furniture would make some modest Omaha dwellers cringe, but those who love interior decor as I do will find this place as fascinating as a kid in a candy shop.

But it's worth looking for, as you'll probably find something you didn't know you were looking for. What sets Among Other Things apart from all the other shops selling vintage and consignment stuff for the home is that their collection is well-curated. You won't find cheap craft crap; you'll find cool stuff from throughout the last, oh, 120 years or so. Any of it would look good in a well-appointed home. And thank heavens, they haven't completely jumped on the mid-century trend as most other such places have. From chairs to rugs to cards, there's something here for anyone with good taste. (I picked up a fairly recent photography coffeetable book at a reasonable price.) There's also an adjoining women's vintage clothing store (unfortunately, nothing for guys). While the location might be a little tough to find at first, it's one to put on your radar. (And not far from NFM, so any time you're thinking of visiting them, stop by here, too.)

Especially when you can find comparable items at a thrift store. As a result some items have been there for quite some time. I love that she also carries some local artists' works. But again, overpriced for what they are. The store is quite crowded, I don't think a stroller could fit through some of the walking paths. I worry about bringing my big purse in. Overall, it's a fun place to peruse, but after many visits, I've yet to pull the trigger on buying anything.
