I went to Michael's for the first time about a week ago. I was going to try to be all Martha Stewarty and create a gift basket (which, by the way, is probably one of the most spectacular things I've ever put together). Basically, I needed one last item to wrap things up (pun intended): cellophane wrap. The place was not very busy on the day after Xmas, which was good. I was fearing crowds and disorder, which wreaks havoc for my German blood. Unsurprisingly, there was some degree of messiness (scavengers, I assume) and the people working there seemed like they were in outer space. It was quite strange. I felt like not only would they not have been able to ask any question about the store but also general questions (about life, multiplication, pet names, etc). You can imagine the SNL Jeopardy sketch: Alex Trebek: "Name a color of the rainbow." Burt Reynolds: "Yeah, I was married to Loni Anderson...so?" So, this place has lots of stuff for the clever crafter but for someone like me, I walked around for about 10 minutes just to get my bearings. A few of Michael's employees HAD to have seen me desperately trying to locate that one item, yet not one of them asked me if I needed assistance (why is it ALWAYS like that??? When you need it, you don't get it. When you don't need or want it, it's all over you like humidity in the South in summer!) So, I'd give this place four stars for what it offers (that includes the coupon I had). I give it two for their staff. Average: three stars. Who knows, I may just start scrapbooking. Pros: Wide variety of merchandise Cons: No/very little customer service, can be pricey, for most hobbies merchandise only meets the needs of beginners and intermediate crafters. Bogus competitor coupon policy. Art supplies pricing outlandish. I go here all the time since it's very close to my house. Michael's is pretty well stocked for your basic crafting needs and covers a variety of hobbies. Note that I said "BASIC." If you're really into a certain hobby/craft, you'd probably be better off going to a specialty store where they have more stock and possibly better pricing. When I go I pretty much have an idea of what I want and know the layout of the store. So I don't need much help. I do notice, however, that I am almost never approached by store personnel and asked if I need any help. It's like going to Home Depot, where you have to hunt down employees to get any help. When I do get help a lot of the times it isn't any better than what I could do myself. For instance, once I went in looking for star-shaped glitter. The staff suggested 2 places. When I went around the store more I found it in 5 different places. When I ask non-stock questions about the merchandise it doesn't get better. For instance, if you were to ask what the advantages of using bamboo yarn are, you may or may not get an answer, it just depends on which sales associate you ask. Now I know that knowledge in all the different crafts Michael's sells supplies for would be difficult for one person. But other places assign people to different departments and expect them to have knowledge in that area. That way someone who doesn't know the answer can call the person assigned to that department. It doesn't appear to work that way at Michael's. They always run 40% off a single item coupons, so be sure you get this. You can run an internet search and find one quite easily. I do have one beef about their competitor coupon policy. They say you can use competitor coupons. In this case it usually means Joann's. But when you use the coupon they effectively make it a Michael's coupon by excluding items that were not excluded on the Joann's coupon. For example, if you have a 40% off coupon from Joann's that doesn't exclude books, when you use it at Michael's, they'll say you can't use it on books even though the Joann's coupon says differently. What's the use of accepting competitor coupons then? And, if you are going there for art supplies, STOP. Their art supplies are way overpriced. Even with a 50% off coupon (yes, 50%, not 40%), their prices are just about average. For art supplies in this area go to the Art Supply Warehouse (Westminster). If you wait for their twice yearly sale you can get your supplies at 25% off. So for example, if you have 50% off Michael's coupon (a 50% coupon does not happen often), and something there costs $25 regular price, you'd pay $12.50 plus tax at Michael's. But Art Supply Warehouse will probably have that item for about $12.50 their regular price. And if you get it at their twice yearly sale, it'll be $10. Not only that, but the Michael's coupon only cover one item. So if you want to paint, you'll only be able to get one item--canvas, a tube of paint, or a paintbrush, for example. read more

This is another one of those "I come here because it's close" reviews. We went today, and the cashier was most unhelpful; she wouldn't even bag my friend's larger purchases, and when he asked if she had a bag that was large enough, she said "No." (We watched her bag the purchases of the person ahead of us with a large enough bag; if she had run out of bags, that fact was not communicated to us, and there was no apology for not having a bag, nor any attempt to see if any of the other cashiers had bags. Boo!) The prices are good for some things (yarns and craft supplies), not so much for other things ( home decor). The service is hit-and-miss, and was definitely a big miss today. There are decent sales, and if I go to find specific items (today was ModgePodge for decoupage, and an extra skein of yarn for a project I am finishing), Michael's has them. Customer service could use some fine-tuning, though - this is an observation based on many visits, not just today's visit. read more

This location specifically has given me repeated poor customer service. I was looked at like an unwanted person by a team member several times and not once greeted. If you are going to stare at me, at least pretend and ask me if I need help. I'm not the only one who felt this way, as I overhead other customers comments. The store was also very warm even though the lights were dim. When checking out, a customer called for curbside pickup and they asked her to come inside for her items (which I'm pretty sure is the opposite point of curbside service). I would recommend another location where I've had better customer service. Also, I would advise to check hobby lobby which I prefer much more. read more

I love this place, 2nd michaels that ive too, the first one was in Chicago, never really like the customer service but this branch, everyone is friendly especially Brianne who is very patient who punch in all the return items and ring me again with discounted coupons :) i saved $60. If you by some thing for $15, you only get a $12 when return it. This is how Michael's lost a customer today for good. I placed an order online yesterday for curb side pickup. I received an email today that my order was ready and went to the store. After I was already at the store I received a second email that one of the items was not available and had been canceled. (The second email came 30 minutes after the first). I was annoyed I didn't get that email at the same time as the other one. However the items I ordered were balloons which would spell a name. I got two sets of balloons to spell the name twice but figured I'd just spell it once instead, no big deal. I called the store to announce my arrival as instructed on the email. When I spoke with the associate I explained this so that she could cancel the additional letters. Initially she was friendly and there didn't seem to be a problem so I waited in my car for the items to be brought out as she instructed. A few moments later she calls me back to say the system won't allow her to cancel the items individually. Well if I take all the items I can't return the ones I don't need so I don't feel comfortable doing that. I asked if she could cancel the entire order and then ring it up again. She already had my items, my order was up in her system, & I was at the store. She said that she could cancel the order but if I wanted the items I'd have to come back the following day. I asked why since again I'm at the store & you are literally holding the items I ordered. Her response was that there were 146 orders in their system and basically I would be put at the bottom of the list again. So Michael's, because your system made an error and your associate doesn't know how to correct it or the system doesn't allow her to correct it I am being punished by having to drive back the next day? My time and gas was already wasted today so I will not be back tomorrow or ever again. That was piss poor service and lack of common sense on the associate's part. Train your people to do better. This is not the time for people to provide poor service. Businesses are struggling to stay open so I would think these people would be using their A game right now. read more

Spent over half an hour driving to this location to pick up a roll of brick paper that the website said was in stock here. Asked a worker for help to find the item and since she didn't see any on the floor she told me they were out of stock. I asked why does their website tell me it was in stock here and all she could say was that the website takes a couple days to update. What an inconvenience. I went to Michael's today because I know they price match per their website. I wanted them to price match an item I found at Walmart but they were out of. I spoke to the manager who first told me they couldn't price match it because the item at Walmart was only at one Walmart, and I told him that wasn't true. So on my phone I pulled up the item and showed him that it was available at multiple locations. Then he called corporate who tells him to tell me that they looked on the Walmart website and it was only available online. Again I told him that wasn't true, that the closest Walmart was out of it so after those first two lies then they proceeded to tell me that it didn't qualify for their price matching program. I explained to him that I had several friends who had gotten this item price matched at their local Michael's, and they still refused to honor the price match. I've spent a several thousand dollars at this Michael's over the years, but they have just lost my business and I'll be telling everyone I know about this. read more

After my mother passed away, I was looking for a container for her ashes that would be more affordable that the expensive urns from the mortuary. I notice that decorative boxes were on sale so I decided to buy several of them to hold some of my mother's belongings that planned to I distribute among my relatives. I really bought more than I needed, but knew that I could return any that I didn't use. When I went to return some of the boxes, the cashier had a horrible attitude. She sighed heavily and rolled her eyes. Instead of taking the multiple receipts I had, totaling them and giving me one refund-like most stores do, she refunded each item individually, didn't count the change back to me and plopped the money into my hand causing some of the change to fall to the counter! I had planned on getting my refund and use the money to shop for more items at Michaels, but after this encounter I thought better of it. You'd think this was the end of the story... but wait... there's more! I went to use the restroom before I left only to find a long line. I stood there for a few minutes, hearing no movement inside; I asked a fellow shopper if someone was even in there. She confessed that she didn't know. I knocked on the door but there was no reply so I asked an employee if he had the key. He said that there was somebody in there and started laughing after another employee commented "just stand there and wait until someone comes out." I knocked on the door again, still no reply. I went up to them again and had to speak several times to get their attention away from their private conversation and told that that nobody was in the bathroom and could they please get the key to unlock the bathroom door. They looked at each other and giggled again before one them sarcastically said "hold on" and walked away-never really saying that they would get the key, although they did. I have been an emotional wreck since my mother died and the last thing I needed was to be treated so rudely by these employees! I really like the products Michaels has to offer but I WILL ABSOLUTLY NEVER EVER RETURN TO THIS STORE!!! read more

There's one older lady there that I always cringe when I get called to her check out. She is a complete bitch, excuse my language but that is the best word to describe her. Just left Michaels today at 746pm super rude older Caucasian woman with short light hair I just asked her a question if they had the hooks for the Christmas ornaments balls and in a rude was she said "nope!" And kept socializing with her coworker pretty rude and not professional at all. Placed an order online on Friday afternoon . Went to Michael's for curbside pick-up the following day, Sarurday. Called Michael's to inform them of my arrival. Michael's employee gathered all my information, name, confirmation number, items ordered, phone number...etc. She then said to park in the Michael's parking lot, and they will be out in a few minutes. There were about 10 other cars, so we anticipated a longer wait time. 10 minutes went by, 30 minutes went by, 45 minutes 1 hour went by, and nothing. We called a 2nd time to check status on our order. The Michael's employee gathered all our information a 2nd time. She then informed us our order would not be ready until Monday!! I used to LOVE this location. Recently (maybe within the last 6 months) a new woman has been interacting with us. I'm betting she's some sort of manager because she truly loves bossing people around. She can't be bothered to look up other locations for you to see if an item is in stock, and you're better off taking inquiries to google because speaking to her is a waste of her time and yours. Ok. It is definitely worth noting that the daytime employees do meet my expectations as a customer. They are polite and welcoming. They are mature. It's the post-afternoon and night shifts that comprise the bratty high school- and college-aged employees who stimulate and warrant complaints. Their sale items are very poorly organized and labeled. It's almost as if they rearrange the entire store AFTER posting the sale stickers. Twice I've gone in and grabbed items labeled as on sale, get to the register & it ring full price. when I question it, they told me an item next to it was on sale... But what they describe was nowhere near the product I chose. . The last time, I chose a frame, the sales associate took over 10 minutes to check he price, to tell me I read it wrong and then tells me AFTER he rang up my purchases that there was a coupon available online.
