Mid-America Raceway is one of the last surviving electric model car (slot) raceways open to the…read morepublic. There were thousands of 'commercial' slot car tracks in the USA in the late 1960s and 1970's; there were a couple of dozen racing centers in the greater Chicago area alone. A lot of things caused the slot racing centers to close one by one- people not being as interested in hobbies and the rise of computer video games being a couple of the reasons. In the last few years there has been a revival of sorts with a certain amount of people who were glued to computer screens in the 1980's and 1990's playing "adventure" and "virtual reality" games discovering it was actually more fun "playing" in 3-D. So hobbies like model railroading, R/C airplanes and yes slot car racing have made a comeback. For a change, more new raceways have been opening the last few years in the USA than have been closing. Mid-America isn't just about being Slot Car Racing's Road America or Daytona International Speedwayt, it's also about people having fun and inviting their inner child to come out to play. Rental racing cars are available so that you and your buddy can pretend you are Ricky Bobby and Cal Naughton Jr. to "Shake and Bake" around the awesome high bank of their 155 foot long American Raceways "King" track. Does your company want to encourage team building? How about a team racing event? Drivers, pit crews, team leaders... miniature racing teaches the same working together for success lessons that "full-scale" racing instills. Call the raceway now to plan and schedule your corporate event. Stop in sometime and check it out for yourself- but keep an open mind that this is something intended to be a pre-digital age entertainment. It may not be the right sort of thing for impatient or short attention span children or adults.

Good selection of yarn, classes, easy parking, and there's always a high level of expertise available for advice and coaching.

Three Bags Full is a feast for your eyes and your heart. Pure gorgeous color and texture (yarns,…read morebags, buttons, books, and all manner of needles, hooks, and well-crafted accessories) invitingly arranged everywhere you look. Amazing staff, exceptionally skilled and caring, are generous with their time and expertise. It is a delightful, cozy space, and if the yarns themselves or the samples displayed don't inspire you to start a project, the wooden tables continuously occupied by knitters (and crocheters, too) will make you want to pull up a chair and begin. Seated around the tables, it always looks like a group of friends have gathered to share time, stories, and craft--yet these are classes. Yes, you can sign up and join the party! And I have. Not only are there classes for specific projects, there are also classes where everyone is working on their own individual projects. Oh, how I love being able to have expert advice on how to read my patterns, fix my mistakes, and finish my projects. I love Three Bags Full, and the passionate, talented people who work there with my whole heart, and I invite you to visit. Support a local, woman-owned business. Take a class (they fill quickly), browse the notions (practical and/or whimsical, just what you need), and treat yourself to some fabulous yarn. Bring a friend, or make a friend when you get there (or both), you'll be so glad you did!
