I've brought my kids here several times to paint and it's always great but the staff went above and beyond at Christmas to help get hand prints of my 3 young boys for grandparent gifts. So happy with how they turned out! Artwork not mine.

Just found this place recently and have have a great time working on several pieces. I find it both fun and meditative. I want to take a second to call-out Sarah, the manager of the store. She has been so so nice and unbelievably helpful.

I'm HOOKED, YO!! Ceramics is thought-crushing-serenity. In other words - PEACEFUL. I can't tell you what a fabulous de-stresser this is! I always thought that this ceramic painting debacle was cheesy and for little kids. I was SO wrong. I was happily surprised to see the variety of different ceramics to choose from! It's not just cheesy little kids figurines! They've got all kinds of things including cheesy kid figurines, Plates, Dishes, Serving bowls and serving plates, tea cups, coffee mugs, tea pots, large piggy banks, and then a whole variety of seasonal Holiday items - i.e., there was a bunch of Easter decorations since Easter is coming up. I actually had a hard time choosing what to paint because I saw several different things I wanted to do! I finally chose my ceramic, a lovely serving dish (approximately 4 inches by 16 inches) and sat down to paint! There's a whole bunch of different colored paints, and even different TYPES of paints. Then there's a bunch of different "accessories" to help you paint. There's also some painting "idea books" if you are having a tough time being creative on your own. The employees are also a helpful resource in terms of "tips". The store has 2 long tables for general public. Then there's a large party area, and a small party area. The store was nice and bright, fun, colorful, and clean. There's brushes, paint holders and munchies on the table for everyone. The ONLY reason I didn't give 5-stars is due to the price. I had no idea how expensive this stuff was! My son did two things: one was a little horse figure, about 2 inches by 3 inches and a coffee-mug, and I did the serving plate - and our total bill was $75. Yikes! I have no idea if this is pretty standard pricing or what since this was my first time. BUT, it will give us a couple hours of entertainment, so I was ok to pay. It could be a deterrent for some folks though. HOWEVER, with that being said, I understand that if you join their mailing list that they occasionally send like coupons or promotions. Overall, I highly recommend this place. We had so much fun, and I can't wait to go back and finish my piece! My painting was kinda intricate, and after 2-hours my piece isn't done so I have to go back (which is kinda cool, cuz i'm actually excited. It gives me something to look forward to!). I'm kinda hooked. I have a feeling this is going to become an expensive hobby, because I can't believe what an awesome feeling it is to sit there and just paint! You focus only on the paint - and your mind just goes blank. Amazing. Even my 16 year-old son had fun and wants to go back! Just an FYI that it does take about a week to get your pieces back. Once you finish, they have to like set for a day or so, and then they're put in the kiln, and then they set again. So sounds like it takes almost a week.

I've been to many ceramic studios all over the country. This is one is well stocked. Staff is super friendly. Prices are solid. In California, most places have a sitting fee + price of the piece. I think it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. You can have parties here. The staff also helps with lettering. Painting ceramics is cheaper/more fun than therapy.

Just discovered this place 2 weeks ago. Took my teenage nieces and nephew and we had a great time painting ceramics. The following week I met a friend there and again had a great time. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Great place to bring children, they even have a story time. They also offer canvas painting and glass fusion. If you like to craft you have to check this place out.

Very helpful!! Just pay the price of the product of ceramics.. Everything else include the price. If you enjoy painting , this is the place to go. They also order a customized clay if you want . After the painting they will fire it. It will take about a week. All the staff there was very helpful and took their time to help us. We stayed about three hours. It is fun if you enjoyed art and doing the painting. Kids will enjoy it. What is nice about is that .....there are no hidden fees after you buy the products of ceramics. If the ceramic cost 19.95 then you ll pay 19.95 plus taxes. No other fee like paints , studio fee or sitting fee like other places I have gone . So have fun and enjoy at this place.

But it definitely did not disappointed. The starting range to paint a blank ceramic is about 6 bucks, the cost does go up depending on the size, and or character. I saw some larger items for 22 bucks. This was a fun way to get out of the house, do something fun, creative, and expressive. Once your blank ceramic is purchased, they have multiple paint stations available. They provide the paint, the paint brushes, cups of water, and a plastic apron to cover your clothes. My eight year old loved the idea of the different colors. My two year old decided to mix all of her paint colors together. (We are working on her artistic skills) They also have really good deals on party packages and an exclusive party room. Apparently they make slim, paper art, canvases, and spray paint/graffiti art. The host was super nice, friendly, and informative. The kids enjoyed themselves and we will definitely be back.

Aside from being problematic, my daughter hadn't had a "good" birthday in the past few years - Covid, passing of a beloved pet, etc. this was supposed to be the redemption. In my panic, I posted to a local mom's group in desperation. Enter Robin and the Painted Penguin. That day I was super busy at work and couldn't respond to her message, but we connected in the evening, and she went above and beyond for us. My daughter and her friends made amazing art and had a great time. I was blown away by the variety and fun of the business (I kind of was a little jealous of the options they had). On top of all of this, Robin was fun, engaging, and genuinely helpful. TL;DR: 10/10 absolutely recommend, will go again.

I am IN LOVE with the Mustard Seed. It first caught my attention because it is a fair trade shop…read more Turns out that it is run by volunteers so the money earned goes directly to the artists. The people who make the goods here are from all over -- from Chili to Ghana. When I purchase gifts, they often include brief information about the artist as well as the shop. Friends and family -- including my super cool teenage nieces and my mom -- who have received gifts from this store before are always excited when they see the familiar box. In fact, this Christmas I did the majority of my shopping here. They carry an amazing array of jewelry. From beautiful beaded necklaces to metal cuffs to swingy earrings. They also carry clothing (sweaters were a huge item this winter), colored scarves (I can't get enough!), wooden bowls, purses, blankets, rugs, wall decor, children's items and frames. During the holidays they even carry ornaments. I've posted a pic of a couple of them. The people who volunteer here are extremely nice and dedicated to helping the artists they show -- often women trying to support their families. But when buying here be prepared for a slow process. Because they are volunteers it's not like walking into a well oiled retail shop. But who really cares? It feels great to help out people who are trying to help themselves (hint -- it's the artist) and give gifts that have meaning to me and the recipient. It's been an amazing teaching tool for my nieces while giving them things they love. Hmmm. I think it's time for a new fashion scarf. Can't stay away too long!
