While I'm not a frequent patron of Michaels, I have gone in there a few times to get custom framing done. One of the things I've noticed recently has been that since the installation of the self service cash registers, there seems to be a belief amongst the staff that they don't have to talk to customers anymore. This morning, I had a similar experience. I went to the Michaels and found the frame that I was looking for. when I approached the register section of the store I could not find an employee. I did find a girl who was standing by the balloons and when I asked her for help, she had to tell the person on her AirPods to please hold on that there was a customer interrupting her. She then pointed me at the self serve, cash registers to let me know that those were there for my convenience. At which point she went back to talking on the telephone with her friend. I am certain that Michaels is not passing along the savings to their customers because the prices are absurd. And yet they can't seem to manage their staff at all. read more

Now that Joannes fabric store has gone out of business, Michael's is the only in person craft store. They have just about everything and you get a lot of neat ideas just walking the aisles. I've used their custom framing before and they do an outstanding job. It is expensive though but if you have fine art, it's worth it. This was a good craft store with an amazingly large amount of stock. We wandered around looking at all the aisles and categories until we found the section we were seeking. We didn't see any staff in the aisles to assist us. But when we found the correct section, there were lots of items from which to choose. And I liked that there were several price points, as well. After choosing our items, we continued to wander to see what' else was in the store. There are lots of creative possibilities and artistic hobbies. You can get a lot of ideas for projects here. In addition to their regular stock, they had a huge section for Easter related items. And their holiday things were on sale for fifty percent off. The custom framing department in this store is incredible. I usually buy frames from the ready made department, then go to custom framing for assistance in putting it together including wiring the back. This time I brought back a frame I had purchased in which I had a hard time closing the back. Michael and Kevin explained the mat I had purchased was too thick. They gave me a new back and wired it without charging anything. The customer service and attention in this store is incredible. Michael and Kevin should win co-employee of the year with a prize. They are the reason I keep coming back and buying more. read more

I'm not much of a crafter in my life, but every once in a while I do find myself at a Michaels for any number of reasons. Usually it's that I'm trying to be a crafty person, but I fail miserably. Enough about me... This Michaels is set up like every other Michaels I've been too. I recommend downloading their app for coupons. My last few visits have been to their framing department located in the back of the store. I had a piece of artwork I wanted framed for some time. I met with an associate who walked me through the process of the color-coated stickers on the frames which are lined up on the wall. Each sticker represents essentially the beginning price point of the frame work you're buying. I tried finding something cheap, but nice naturally (much like me). They really take their time and walk you through the entire process. They take an overhead photo of your art, digitally frame it in the frame you choose and show you, digitally, what it's going to look like when it's done. You pick glass or acrylic to go into the frame. You can get a matte if you need to as well. All the options are yours, for a fee of course. It takes about two weeks to create the frame. You can leave your art work with them or bring it back when the frame is back in stock. They'll call you to bring it in, believe me. I received multiple follow up calls to make sure I brought everything in. Another two days (ish) and the piece is yours. They give you the starting rate of the frame, but know, that's not what it's going to be. Framing will set you back a nice chunk of coin, but it looks beautiful when it's done so it's easy to argue its worth. The service was amazing too, which I have to appreciate. While I can afford to frame everything I have at once or I'd be broke, I'd be happy to frame something again here soon. read more

It's a huge store with lots of various art and craft materials and supplies to offer if you can locate what you might be looking for, which I found to be a problem when shopping Michaels. In my case I couldn't locate any floor clerks and the cash register checkout clerks were just that, cash register checkout clerks who seemed to be totally unacquainted with the items carried by the store much less with where anything might be located. About the only thing I can really say good about the place is that it houses a vast supply of varied inventory, but as far as customer service, assistance or even a friendly smile from one of the employees, forget it. read more

I went to store 1041 in Fort Lauderdale to purchase a frame and was assisted by Lydia. I had to wait because she was helping another customer who appeared to have some disabilities. I was impressed with how she respectfully and patiently helped him through the framing customization process. When she was finished with him, she helped me select an appropriate, ready-made frame for my photograph and took the time to put it together for me. She did a super job! I have found an assortment of crafts for every hobby, frames of every size and embellishment, and continually changing decorations for every upcoming month's holidays. While shopping for parts for a Halloween costume, I decided to try Michael's. I had a mental shopping list so I started my search. It took a while to find the first item... spray paint. Ok, this was behind a locked cage so I would need to get assistance. I proceeded to look for the next item. This proved to be harder. Last, I stumbled on parts for a completely unrelated project I'm considering but they kept these items locked too. Next was the hardest challenge yet... finding assistance. I only saw one person at the framing counter and he had a customer and the others were working cash registers with long lines. I walked the full store three times and could not find anyone. This occasion we used the for framing services since the other place (Squirrels) is out of business. I had a poster from our trip to south Africa that I wanted to get dry mounted on foam board. It was a small job and only took a couple days to complete. I arrived to pick it up and they open it for inspection. Looked decent but I did notice a corner that wasn't glue'd down completely. I also had to request that they add the piece on the back so I could hang it. The clerk took time and carefully measured and installed it. I'll probably try them on something else. If you're a scrapbooker, love to showcase photos, posters and prints and in general are into arts and crafts, clearly Michael's is the place for you. I'd like to think even the most jaded person could walk their many (albeit cluttered) aisles and fall back into a period of childhood as you encounter so many goodies that are laden with memories. A good think, too, about Michael's is their assiduous attention to seasons and details - they leave plenty of time to buy Thanksgiving material throughout November; Halloween in October; Christmas in December, etc. The staff at this store is also quite accommodating and helpful - the only reason I give them 3 stars, at this time, is simply because they are a little over priced. I was reluctant to go to a frame store to get a specialty poster framed because of the expense; now I'm wondering if I did the right thing, perhaps I would have gotten a better deal at a mom & pop store - the fees for custom framing and one matt ran to over $200 - I'm not sure it was totally worth it. On the other hand, if you take care to coupon and watch for specials - there are plenty of floor samples you can pick up for a fraction of what I paid and you can pretty much do your own framing for much less - you just have to hope what's on stock suits your aesthetics. read more

I could not find an employee in the store to help me find an item the three employees they had were all busy at the register I literally had to go to the parking lot to find somebody that worked for the store went back into the store only to find out they carry an extremely extremely limited amount of baking and candymaking supplies. Essentially, they simply sell flavored wax discs that you melt down and pour into molds into such shapes as lipstick and starfish. I came here looking for the finishing touches on my Prince(musician) costume. I needed a material to make ruffles for my shirt. The service was amazing. This young woman (name is slipping my mind) helped me find the perfect ribbon material to make ruffles. She even was showing me how to make ruffles with the ribbon. I was really amazed at the lengths she went to help me. A+ service. Sadly, the price on the ribbon was expensive $11 for 2 yards. Ouch! My first framing experience with Michaels was so-so. I had them stretch and frame a VERY large canvas painting; but the problem was they never stretched it so the canvas hangs loosely in the frame. I no longer have my receipt or the credit card used for the purchase, so I am stuck with the piece as is. I gave them another shot with another framing job because I loved their frame selections. This time they managed to rip the concert poster I was having framed. They didn't tell me, however, and after a few days went by past the promised finish date, I called and was told about the incident and that they had found and ordered a replacement online. While I appreciate the effort, what if this had been something priceless or rare; and the lack of communication upfront tells me all I need to know. Also, for the quality, their prices are outrageous. To say I'm disappointed in the framing services of Michaels would be an understatement. Whenever I see those, I figure it is someone's bad experience that was weighing the store's score down. I was wrong. The customer service here was really atrocious and left me with a terrible impression. While the selection was different than other locations (the only positive), the quality of the items on their shelves were laughably damaged. Employees weren't willing to help with finding items or applying coupons, and I genuinely felt that some of them didn't even want to be bothered to deal with customers. Be very careful when you go to checkout: it happens several times that the special discounts mentioned in the stores are not considered at checkout. A friend of mine from work always brag amount Michaels so I decided to take my 9 year old who loves to draw with a Visa card birthday gift certificate. Here are the things that went wrong due to poor customer service. 1- store clerk was too busy sipping on her smoothies (strawberry) to say hello or any type of greetings. 2- she took the visa card from my nine year old and ring it as one of the stores card, when we couldn't figure out where the extra $25 came from I asked her she took a sip of her drink and look the other way. 3-we asked for a price check and since we couldn't use the 50% coupon I told her to forget it but she did not take it off. 4- the store advertised buy one crayola item and get the other 50% but cash register say buy one and get the other for 30% when I told her she start to drink again. 5- when our total came to $75 for 2 air dry clays, a box of small paint and small tube of paint I told her something is wrong but this time she rolled her eyes continue to drink her smoothies. 6- one of the small jars of paint bust open as I was putting it away in the bag she never once offer a napkin but told my husband to simply go get another one and he doesn't need to come back. Really bad customer services. In the end cashier next to smoothies girl told her to clear everything and try again, no one bother to go to the store and check the posting errors on the prices. Other cashier next to smoothies girl had her ring a coupon book and the price was dropped from $75+ to $35 after it was done correctly. As much as I hate Amazon for putting every small business away I would've found better variety, better experience better prices free shipping and the best part no driving. Poor customer service. they need to train this girl on how to go above and beyond to assist others. It is because of things like that that makes me want to go to online and shop at Amazon. read more

OK every time I go here its a miniature nightmare. There's absolutely no communication between the staff members. On the phone they might tell you they have what your looking for in stock but when you arrive all of a sudden they don't know what your talking about and now begins your nightmare. Oh and don't walk in assuming your going to find a staff member to help direct you to what your looking for. Its a mission in itself just to find an employee working in the department area. The only employees that are visible are the TWO at the registers with a line wrapped around the corner so don't think they can help you either. And when you do FINALLY find a staff member he rushes you and even might tell you he's "super busy" and not give you the time of day. Twice that has happened to me here. I will never return here. Here's a little tip to any managers reading this. Hire more staff!! It will be worth it in the long run, you will get returning costumers. read more
