They have a good selection and the service is friendly. The spray paint display is weird though. Customers aren't supposed to walk up to the paint as it's behind the counter. So if your eyesight isn't the greatest it won't be good. You have to pick colors and have the clerk take them down and bring them over. The paint I purchased didn't match the swatch on the can the best. read more

Had such a great experience in the store today. First time in this particular store and it was beautiful, great lighting so clean. They are fully stocked which I was so impressed with. All different types of paint and mediums. So many different professional brands and lots of different paintbrushes. They have stuff there you can't find anywhere else. They have huge section of Pan pastels which you can't find anywhere. They had a nice polymer clay section all the colors. all different sizes of canvas. Also everyone was so helpful. My husband was looking for a particular glue. They didn't have any on the shelf. And employee came and helped us and she went out of her way went and got a ladder and checked in a box on the very top of the isle and found some for him. And everybody working there so helpful constantly asking if I need help. And they answered my questions. Great art store found everything I was looking for and I'll be back again. Incredible service and a very clean and organized store. I'm driving from Miami Gardens and that's about a 45min to an hour drive. Well it was well worth it! I was able to get all the supplies I needed and a small discount because I have signed up for their members program (free of charge). Blick often has many sales and promotions going on, so there are things you can take full advantage of. Great savings and you can get lost in all the goodies available in store and online! I have been a loyal Blick customer for well over 10 years, primarily shopping at the South Miami location. This was only my second visit to the Fort Lauderdale store, and from the moment I walked in, something felt off. Staff repeatedly hovered over me and kept asking if I needed help. I politely declined several times, explaining that I would ask if I needed assistance. When I finally did need help, the experience took a shocking turn. I asked to see three sets of oil pastels that I understand are considered high-value items. Initially, the employee tried showing them to me on her iPhone, but it was difficult to compare the different color palettes that way. I politely asked if she could bring the actual boxes from the back so I could make an informed decision. Although she seemed reluctant, she eventually did. When she returned, she was holding the boxes tightly on the opposite side of her person, making it impossible for me to view them. I asked if I could see the boxes. She immediately turned away and said, "I can't let you see the boxes." Confused, I asked, "Do you think I'm going to steal these oil pastels?" Without hesitation, she looked me in the face and said, "Yes." I was stunned. After more than a decade of shopping at Blick, I have never been treated with such disrespect or suspicion. Rather than continue the interaction, I walked away. On my way out, I decided to speak with the manager, hoping the situation would at least be acknowledged. Unfortunately, that was equally disappointing. The manager barely looked at me, showed little interest in hearing what had happened, and made no meaningful effort to address the situation. I have always enjoyed shopping at Blick, which makes this experience even more disheartening. In over 10 years as a customer, this is the first time I have ever felt profiled while trying to make a purchase. I never expected to have that experience at Blick. The store has a great selection of art supplies, but customer service and basic respect for paying customers were completely absent during this visit. read more

Normally, I extremely enjoy coming into this art store. The prices and items available are extremely good, and generally a rather pleasant experience. Today felt just very pushy with people coming up several times asking if I needed any assistance and mentioning several times about a 60% sale on custom framing which again got reminded to me and handed a flyer at check out. If I go into an art store I like to stare and carefully pick out what I want because there are a lot of different options and many are expensive. Being asked for help once or twice is okay, but it happened a few times and the push on the custom framing was the most annoying part. I have 0 interest in custom framing the majority of time, and made the trip more annoying than pleasant. read more

Every Blick location I've ever visited is roughly similar: one of everything imaginable, highly knowledgeable friendly staff, and aggressively high prices. This newish location next to Aldi on Oakland Park Boulevard fits that trend. I just needed Spray Mount ( oddly enough to fix something inside my car LOL), but it was exactly double the Amazon price. And to my pleasure and amazement they have moved into the building of what was the famous only true art store in florida way back in the 70's which was Pearl's art supply. I can't tell you the hours my brother and I roamed Pearls just enjoying the atmosphere of Pearls. Now 50 years later, a professional artist, i am able to recapture those memories at Blick. Today Marta reminded me of why it's good to shop at brick and mortar businesses. We decided to go into Blick's because we were shopping at a neighboring store and saw sale posters on Blick's windows. Once in the store, we thought we'd like to try our hands at watercolor painting (we recently talked about doing ceramics as a new art project but figured we could do watercolor painting instead). Marta came over to us and offered to help. We asked if one of the watercolor tube assortments was on sale and she went to check the computer. It turned out that it was on sale but still a bit pricey for us to buy on a whim that we'd enjoy watercolor painting. So we started to pick her brain about paint brands and the benefits of using quality paints versus inexpensive ones. Marta was really informative. She wound up giving us a tour of the store as she helped us select brushes, surfaces, paint trays and more. She fielded all our questions. She explained why we'd want certain brush types and how we'd use them to create specific art (I told her I wanted to paint botanicals/birds and she explained how a pointed brush would help create a straight line on a leaf or petal). She shared information about brands, cold and hot press surfaces, surface thicknesses, sketch boards, etc. Marta even planted the idea of what to buy on our return to the store (masking fluid to cover parts of the surface that we want to keep untouched). She turned our store visit into a tour and a successful sale. If I ordered paint supplies online I would have missed out on all the tips she shared. We're excited to dabble in painting and are hopeful that this is the start of a fun hobby. Blick is an artist's store - it's not your typical craft store. This is where you find a variety of easels and paints. Where an aisle of surfaces and flat files of specialty surfaces exist. And where caring artists like Marta serve as store employees. After the great big unfortunate loss of Pearl Art & Craft Supply (which I grew up going to and might have shed a tear or two over upon hearing of it's closure), Fort Lauderdale was blessed with this Blick location. While I don't live local anymore, I don't have a Blick anywhere near me, therefore I make sure to stop in whenever I'm back home for a visit. Here's what I like: 1. The employees are artists themselves. I love being able to ask them questions and get their opinion on certain products, knowing I'll get an honest answer from one artist to another. 2. Vast selection of a lot of different things. Solid choices of brushes, paints, etc. They're one of the only places that sells quality spray paint in the area. I also for some reason was never able to find oval canvases anywhere except at Blick. 3. I love that they have a rotating selection of art on the wall on display by local artists! Prices can be a bit more expensive here compared to other art supply stores, depending on what you're buying. I highly encourage anyone that is considering shopping at Blick to sign up for their free membership rewards program and to take advantage of it. Members do save money and receive coupons. I was able to purchase my boyfriend an easel for Christmas one year at almost 50% off, all because I was enrolled. Doesn't hurt to save money at no charge ;) read more

Some comic book trivia: way back in dark days, during the McCarthy hearings, comic books were deemed a corruption to youth, and many restrictions were enacted on the industry. Best art store/location in South Florida. Since converting over to Dick Blick, the selection of art materials has gone up. Previously, when it was a Utrecht's, there were some good art tools and the staff was great too, but what changed were definitely the tools-- especially the marker selection (Copics are the go to). The friendly staff is always great, helpful, and welcoming when entering the store. And, if you're not satisfied or unable to find any materials, they'll be happy to order you the materials you need. Also, make sure to check out their events (sometimes monthly) where they have artists visit the store and shel their crafts to interested artists. read more

The selection is great, even though the store seems quite small, I am able to find the drawing and painting materials that I drive there to pick up. Typically, Before I actually went to the local Blick store, I would just order from dickblick.com, however, now that I've been to the local Blick store, I prefer to feel the items in my hands for weight and textures. I find that I prefer running to the Blick store instead of ordering online because the staff is nice and helpful and because the stock is good. I really like the hours of operation, they're open early enough and long enough for me to fit the drive into my day. This is a really nice art store for the true artists. They have everything you should need from canvases, either framed or unframed, in all sizes to miniatures for architectural displays. This is about the most paints that I've ever seen, gathered in one place, oils, acrylics, sprays etc. There are also plenty of markers, pastels, pens and whatever. I would have liked to see more supplies for the budding artists that were lower cost. We just don't do things that require a $6+ marker or something like $1.15 for a single color pencil. Great selection but rude staff. They are generally rather indifferent, but today I was pretty much kicked out of the store. Granted, they were closing, but Instead of politely informing me of this fact and asking if I could be helped to find something, I was completely ignored until a woman said: "Sssssooooo... we're closed". Normally, associates at retail stores let you know the registers are closing, as a hint for you to hurry up and buy your things. I even hesitated a moment wondering if she was going to ask if I wanted to pay for the things I had in my hand. But she just repeated that they were closed, *right*now*. Alrighty then. This review is about ordering through their web site. I placed an order on July 25th (I try to support retailers instead of ordering from Amazon) for 2 brushes. So far (Sep 14th) I've received only 1 and it was delivered one month later, after receiving more than 1 email postponing the delivery date (item on backorder). Today I called customer service and the representative was not even able to tell me when I was going to receive the second brush. Shopping at the store is another thing, people are very nice and helpful; but they don't carry many items in store and you have to order online and go through all this delay and poor customer service. I try to do my shopping for art supplies on line this way I get to compare prices. I joined the black frequent buyer or whatever they call it which matches the online price for an item at the register. At time I go to this store when I need something right away. What a rip off. I wanted to buy liquin which is an oil medium. On line the price was $20.38 so I planned on paying that price at the store plus tax. Wrong, they charge 26.40 or something close to that, the online discount was .96 cents plus tax it's not a deal. When I told the cashier that the online price is 20.38 she said that they add the shipping cost. What do I need to pay for shipping if I am at the store? A total rip off considering that the same item sell at jerrysartarama for $19.79 Oh if I bought more stuff I would have gotten the free shipping rate. I am at the store. read more

My fav art store. It's not near me & I will make the trip because it's worth it. I have been there at least 10+ times. Staff are always friendly. Store is always clean & well stocked. Loyalty card gives great deals. I love that most of the supplies are not locked up so I can handle them before buying. Can't say enough about how much I enjoy going there.
