so..it's a big-box craft store, with locations all over the freakin place.. this one seems to be lacking a little in some areas. I think I was spoilt in BC, where my favourite sections were always 2-3 aisles jammed full. This one was sparse and barely stocked in many areas (although that seems to be the theme in most big retail stores in the Edmonton area) I'm a knitter, and a cake decorator who also dabbles in scrap-booking (OK, ok.. I'm a craft addict and like to make a butt load of my own gifts and household decor, so I was hoping this place had everything in one store) This location seems to favour what I would call "silver haired" folks crafting or school crafting gear, very basic selections on most items and doesn't seem to carry the full line available to their chain. I'll have to visit some of the other locations to verify this theory though. In the mean time, I'll continue to shop the sales with coupons from the app :) BTW.. if you have a smart phone, check out the Michaels app. I don't seem to get the weekly flyer's at my new place, so the app has come in handy - you can get scannable coupons right on your phone - no paper print outs needed!!

She explained that everything was FREE and the items need to be weighed prior to leaving the store. The items were organized into categories and many of the bins were clearly labelled. They had shopping carts available. There was plenty of space to move around. Some items were picked over but I was able to find some cool stuff. The selection of items depends on what's been donated. You need time and patience to look through everything. Some items were in good condition while others were not. I found a Happy Birthday banner which I've been wanting to buy at the party store and was happy to find here for free. They also had various tablecloths, weights to anchor helium balloons, streamers, treat bags and more! The Christmas decor was also great! I found some cute little plush tree ornaments. They even had Christmas trees! There were decorations for Halloween, Valentine's Day, and St. Patrick's Day. I needed a cylinder container for a craft project. I was hoping to find something I could use here. Again this was something I almost bought at the craft store. I was happy to save some money by finding the perfectly sized container here. They had books, photo frames, office supplies and more. I love that this place helps people to reuse and recycle items that might otherwise be thrown into landfills. My favourite item was a musical Grinch toy that was missing batteries and the battery cover. I knew there was a chance it was broken. I'm happy to report that the toy did indeed work when I put some batteries in!! What a find! I'll be back!

Artists & Artists to be ~ wannabes (me) UNITE!…read more I've been looking for canvas primer! The Gilded Rabbit off 149th & Stony Plain Road was the perfect place to shop for it! They had a cool collection of gifts for budding artists, kids and professionals. Tools for painting, carving, crafting & POTTERY!! my good friend just purchased a pottery wheel. I will be sure to tell her to visit the gilded rabbit. Two woman working we're helpful. I loved the smooth artsy jams playing over the radio. It got me in the mood to create. Prices are reasonable for a standalone art supply store is comparable to those you would find in a big box store. Although you would never find the selection or specialized tools in a big box location. Having said that ...... WHY NOT SUPPORT THE LITTLE GUY! If you've been holding out on art supplies or thinking about getting into an ARTSY MESS, I recommend checking out the gilded rabbit!

This is my "go to" spot for quality framing (I always get really good advice and is always an "easy…read morepeasy, lemon squeezy"process) as well as special art supplies for my classroom :-) Marion and her staff are very accommodating and SO knowledgeable about their inventory. As well, it is a great place to stop in and talk all things art, art supplies and everyday. This is what makes this place special....it is not only a shop to acquire art materials, but a space of community where you can drop in and see the wonderful things to buy AND to have a quick visit with those who work there and enjoy their customers business and their company :-)
