I am always looking for unusual fabrics for upholstery projects and in Edmonton there isn't a huge selection to choose from. The market seems to be dominated by Fabricland which can be pricey. My friend recommended Marshall's and I was not disappointed. Their fabrics have festive prints, pop culture designs and a large selection of (my favourite) tartan fabrics. Be prepared to really search! The store is massive but the fabrics are well laid out. There is a lot to see. It can be hard to find exactly what you want, as there are so many options. Don't miss out on the large discount section at the back of the store, with a rainbow of fabrics to choose from. The haberdashery is not extensive but it has everything you need, from buttons and tassels, to foam and stuffing. The staff are very helpful and there are a lot of them stationed at cutting tables, which means you get through the till in a flash.

Honestly, I don't know what it is about fabric stores that I love so much - I don't even know how to sew. But I did go here in an attempt to find some fabric for a headboard I was going to make. Marshall's has a huge selection of fabrics and at really good prices. The people are not as helpful as those at fabricland, but that is not an essential thing for me - chances are, people who are shopping here know what they are looking for and if not, they will ask for help. The fabrics seem to all be of good quality and I enjoyed browsing through the store. If I ever learn to sew - this is where I will buy my fabrics.

When she told me the price I just about fell over, considering the exorbitant prices Fabricland charges.

But now it's like the treadmill with clothes hanging off of it - the machine is just sitting in my storage room, waiting for use. I went with my fiance's brother and his girlfriend, who are both much better and more enthusiastic about sewing than me. This place is pretty big - I couldn't believe how far it goes back. The rows of fabric just keep going and going. A lot of the fabrics are your standard grandma florals or the kind of patterns you might find on kids pajama pants, but some of them are really interesting. There were quite a few staff working when we went (on a Saturday) and the sewing duo were happy with their purchases.

The stores are going steadily downhill, and closing left, right and centre. The stores that are open cater to interior design and quilting, with very little fashion fabric in stock any more. Now, when I need to make something, I pretty much dread the fabric buying practice at this store. Horrible selection, zero stock, no order, dirty stores and staff that just doesn't care. I don't sew nearly as much now, and part of that is due to Fabricland. If you need fabric, do yourself a favour and go a few blocks further to Marshall's Fabrics.

Told I'd have to spend another $60 dollar. told it was their policy no refundS or exchanging. Would have loved to know that when I spent $180. I would have tried the pants on in store before purchase. Poor policy from my point of view. buyer Beware. I personally will not be shopping there again and encouraging my friends not to as well Over priced as well

RE: Returned costume with cigarette burn…read more I have dealt with Christy and Tessa for a few years now and their journey to their current location on the southside. I have been an enthusiastic, repeat customer. I always have a fun time coming into the store and letting my imagination have its way. For Halloween, I rented an authentic 1970's era polyester tuxedo. I wore it with confidence and had a blast. Upon return, we realised there was a cigarette burn in the middle of the back of the suit jacket. I was surprised and shocked as I did not recall this damage. I took responsibility for the burn and was hoping for a reasonable solution to this surprise and difficult to fix damage. I was very happy with the negotiated outcome to a fair price for me to purchase this item which was no longer in a rentable condition. It was clearly ruined and the damage occurred under my care. After checking with a few of the premium suit manufacturers in Edmonton, I was referred by Harry Rosen to Maple Tailors. The repair was nearly invisible and at an excellent repair cost. I am now the proud owner of an excellent quality tuxedo. I will highly recommend Theatre Garage for excellent and authentic costume rentals and purchases. The owners are highly dedicated to their craft and in supporting local functions and businesses which is refreshing from all of the inferior quality products being sold at discount and chain retailers. My suggestion is to talk to these ladies (Christy, Tessa, and staff) ... they are authentic and committed to offering unique services and products to the Edmonton region. Thanks again, ds

The Owner refused to give any Credits, or refunds, and was very hostile and demanding. I've worked for the Government, and noticed a few protocols were not being followed, and I am in contact with the Better Business Bureau. She explained that everything was FREE and the items need to be weighed prior to leaving the store. The items were organized into categories and many of the bins were clearly labelled. They had shopping carts available. There was plenty of space to move around. Some items were picked over but I was able to find some cool stuff. The selection of items depends on what's been donated. You need time and patience to look through everything. Some items were in good condition while others were not. I found a Happy Birthday banner which I've been wanting to buy at the party store and was happy to find here for free. They also had various tablecloths, weights to anchor helium balloons, streamers, treat bags and more! The Christmas decor was also great! I found some cute little plush tree ornaments. They even had Christmas trees! There were decorations for Halloween, Valentine's Day, and St. Patrick's Day. I needed a cylinder container for a craft project. I was hoping to find something I could use here. Again this was something I almost bought at the craft store. I was happy to save some money by finding the perfectly sized container here. They had books, photo frames, office supplies and more. I love that this place helps people to reuse and recycle items that might otherwise be thrown into landfills. My favourite item was a musical Grinch toy that was missing batteries and the battery cover. I knew there was a chance it was broken. I'm happy to report that the toy did indeed work when I put some batteries in!! What a find! I'll be back!

I'm a huge fan of Jelly Parrot Trash Crafts!…read more I ran into the owner, Jan Przysiezhiak, at SUB while I was at the U of A. He turns trash into crafts! And not in a cheesy way, this guy's stuff in amazing! Here is a bit about this guy's company: All of his crafts are from 99-100% reclaimed/recycled materials. He collects materials from dumpsters, recycling buns, generous individuals, etc and turns it into something beautiful! I bought 2 journals from Jan yesterday. One has front and back cover made from vinyl records - it's incredible! The spine of the journal in made from an old coat hanger and the pages are recycled paper. It's amazing! The other one I bought is made from an old record album cover and it is equally incredible! Jan also puts an inscription in each of his journals/notebooks telling you a bit about them. He also had some amazing coasters made from vinyl records but there was only one left after I got back fro the ATM! I was crushed! This is such a great thing that Jan is doing. He is helping our environment and he is creating beautiful and creative pieces of art. Jan sets up shop at different places throughout the week. SUB is only one of his stops (he's there every Friday, I believe). He also sells his work at Earth's General Store, Frog Kisser's Den, Modaboho, and Alternations (Saskatoon). You can email him at jellyparrot@hotmail.com to find out when and where he will be near you! I've included pictures of the journals I bought. The prices are great too! The vinyl journal was $14 and the album cover journal was only $10! Great deal, great cause, great stuff!
