I searched for a yarn shop in NOLA but this one was the only shop that interested me. So it will be yarn from "near New Orleans" =) I believe that the owner was there when my husband and I stopped by yesterday. We were greeted immediately and enthusiastically by a beautiful little Sheltie and then by the owner soon after. She was very helpful. I had previously written down options for the pattern I'm using and she helped my find exactly what I need. While she wound my yarn we looked around and tried to befriend her dog (unsuccessful). This shop is pretty nice. It is in an old building, is well-lit, and is well stocked. Prices are comparable to prices I've seen at other local yarn stores. I would definitely recommend McNeedle's and would definitely shop here often if I lived in the area.

I knew what I wanted, but they would need to order it, she seems like that made it no go. I had to actually request her to make the inquiry. There are enough needlepoint shops that I can manage without this one. I'll stick with The Quarter Stitch. We go into needlepoint shops to relax and enjoy imagining our next project. Then I saw the twirl of two knitting needles and noticed a person was holding them, working on their own project. To my shock, the sign on the door listed hours until 11 pm. I saw the neon "OPEN" sign alit, but I assumed that someone forgot to turn it off. When you step inside you feel like you've entered a cozy new dimension. The owner, Ellie, gave me a tour of the magical space. I got to see the custom coffin where they dry their hand dyed yarn, the knitting group room where you can come in and work on creative projects with others or hop onto the Google meet rooms and join them virtually. Ellie also offers a FREE knitting class. There's also a larger selection of yarn than you'd think from the small storefront. Inside you'll find more than one room of assorted yarn. I walked away from what felt like a sanctuary with a bounty of beautiful heavyweight acrylic that I'm using to make pompoms. In this time of endless subscriptions and fewer third spaces, it's touching to see a business foster community the way that YarNOLA is doing. I can't wait to go back.

They have a unique selection of hand dyed yarn from various dyers around the country and their own hand dyed yarn (dyed in shop!) as well as a large selection of colors and materials of imported yarn. How do I know all of this? The owner gave me a tour of the whole place and told me about each of the dyers she sells for. It was amazing! She also listened to what my upcoming project was and provided suggestions of yarns for me! The hand dyed yarns aren't cheap, but they are 100% worth the cost, especially with many of them having a percentage of the purchase going to a cause. They are pretty comparable to the cost of most hand dyed yarns I've seen. The imported yarn is a great price! Cheaper than a lot of other places and I was a big fan of the ones I bought. They also have some awesome handmade acrylic crochet hooks in fun colors! Highly recommend, especially if you are looking for an alternative to big box craft stores.

While looking through one of the isles I found wrapping paper on sale for $1.00. Let me tell you I was insanely excited. I almost bought every roll. In the end I settled for about 20 rolls. When I got to the register the rolls were ringing up for $1.50. I informed the cashier, who was pretty rude at the start, that the tag said $1.00. She made me show her- so went to find them. Apparently, the tag was in the wrong place. She called the manager because I wanted them to honor the mistake. He said go ahead and I thanked him for doing so. The cashier was rude again. Saying how long it would take for her to override each roll. I was super aggravated with her at that point. She then asked me if I was a teacher, yep. Instant discount. I ended up with 20 rolls for about 14 bucks! I was super excited. I still enjoyed my experience although I got a rude cashier. Lacking star is due to her and the insanely long line behind me.
